New stadium at the Lane?

The Kop should be at least partially safe standing if the law changes. I was born in 1991 and only remember the seated Kop but I've had people tell me the atmos was far better when it was standing room only.

I think we could do far worse than putting in a corner like the one at the other side of the South Stand....I personally would prefer this to another soul-less office block corner.

If we did that we would lose capacity because the Kop extends well past the corner flag.
Also to be fair no club wants office blocks but they are good money earners, renting out office space.

The plan was to incorporate a media centre in that corner too.
So when Sky arrive we don't have to build a temporary port-a-cabin tv studio like last time.
Any modern PL club should have a tv studio inside its stadium facing the pitch.

lets also not forget that if you need a piss when the kop is full it'a fucking impossible

against scunthorpe i left just before the half time whistle and didn't get back until the second half had already started. Joke facilities.

We have no need for a bigger stadium and never will unless we become a top 4 PL club.

That is factually incorrect.

It was only a few years ago we actually struggled in the PL but STILL effectively sold out half our matches (less restricted views) and that's restricting away fans to only 2,990 seats.

Rough as hell MS Paint work....but I think doing so in that corner would tie that side of the ground in and it would help keep some of the Kop and South stand noise in and create a real hot atmosphere.

The office block on the Bramall Lane / John Street corner has many an empty unit does it not?

You wouldn't have to lose any capacity what so ever either as a new corner would fit seamlessly into that space all be it at a slightly higher elevation.....and if anything it paves space and perhaps forces a hand for eventually a steeper kop!

That's because it was our first season in the top flight for over ten years.

If we went up to Premier League and stayed there for a few years our attendances would fluctuate depending on how well we were doing.

After a couple of seasons we'd probably be averaging anywhere between 24,000 and 28,000.

No chance not nowadays. In the 90's yes, but in a city the size of sheffield, if we were the only club in the premier league it's 30+ week in, week out no problem whatsoever. Then potentially 45k for the likes of Man U etc

The last two home games should remind everyone (if it were needed) that attracting larger crowds in either the Championship or Premiership is predictable, hence being ahead of the curve.

Just reflecting on how quickly fortunes can change. Under Adkins we seemed to push another nail into what seemed to be an ongoing run in Division 1. Then in came Chris Wilder and voila, after what was not exactly a thrilling beginning we began to claw our way up this division, until we became a fixture in or around the top four. Now we're top and the assumption is that we're headed for promotion. We've turned 360 degrees in terms of expectations, and with recent home games attracting crowds that many Prem teams would be envious of, it's entirely reasonable for discussions about ground capacity to take place.

My own take on this matter is that we could reasonably expect to get crowds of 30-36 thousand, but that's just me, perhaps the number would be greater if we began to show the ambition that being in the Prem allows a member club.

Again that factually incorrect.

After we left the PL we fluctuated between 24,000 and 28,000 (averaged 26K) for 3 consecutive seasons in the CHAMPIONSHIP with much smaller away followings.

Anyway I think the PL is a different animal.
When we play the top 12 teams teams there would be 1000's of neutrals wanting to come to BL.
Also many of the 38,000 that went to Wembley would be paying a visit.

Gates would only drop once the novelty of Sky television and the PL wears off.
But there's no sign of that happening.

A big factor in retaining support is pricing.
Clubs like Man City and Stoke have very cheap season tickets ensuring they keep their support.

No chance. The novelty wears off.

Imagine we finished lower mid table in our first three seasons which is realistic. There's no way we'd be attracting 30,000+ against the likes of Watford and Bournemouth etc.

The trouble with the current plans for the kop extension is that the existing shallow rake of the stand would mean the unfortunate punters on the back row, would be nearer to Lancing Road than the fucking centre spot.

Rebuild the KOP certainly and maybe eventually the South Stand. Increase capacity to about the same as those lot in S6 and leave it there.

We don't need to rebuild the whole ground to accommodate the prawn sandwich fans that being in the Premier League usually attracts.

Depends on pricing. Decent season ticket pricing and we'd have 24,000 season ticket holders every year in the premier league, then there's the walk up fans & neutrals. We may not sell out every game but even if we expanded to 36k we'd still sell out at least 6-8 games per season which makes it 100% financially viable.

And that's if we're lower mid table.

The plans for the extension of the kop are a steeper rake for the 3000 seats. So all those struggling for leg room could sit up there.

The other big problem would be how long it would take to get out without any new exits being included, all we've got is 7/8 at the top at 2 at the bottom, getting out at the bottom of the Kop and John St is a nightmare and usually I just stand around for 10 minutes or so. I reckon it must be one of, if not the slowest emptying stands in British football

This is a legitamate problem, but in an emergency you'd be able to just spill onto the pitch anyway

I would agree with you if we charged high prices

But look at Stoke City. a club with traditionally less support than us.
They finish mid table every season, no excitement, no expectation, just a club that boringly plods along mid table every season.

The novelty has worn off at Stoke and their fans are losing interest but they have had average gates of 27,000 in a stadium holding 27,500 for the last 8 years running.

How did they manage it?
They've kept their season tickets at very low prices every season meaning they have 24K season ticket holders. Kids are almost free if accompanied by an adult.

Next season they have again frozen their prices
Season tickets are £294 to £359 for adults and an incredible
£38 for under 11's and free for under 7's.

To be be honest if United charged those prices we would have 25K to 30K season ticket holders for years. Such cheap entertainment for families taking kids and this is the way forward.

Anyone above 5ft 6" tall and weighing more than 10st are fked in those seats.

The leg room meant the Kop must have been designed exclusively for children
Depends which row you're on. I'm about 5'8" and on row OO, I haven't got enough leg room, yet on row PP, there's plenty of room.

Can't see a fucking thing though when everyone is stood up and the ball is in the 6 yard box in front of The Kop......
