New Manager ?

Worth noting that 92 points with our GD would have been enough for automatic promotion in 27 out of the past 30 seasons, and enough to outright win it in more than 10 too.
Absolutely irrelevant. We have a subset of supporters who are Wilder fans over Sheffield United fans. It’s bizarre.

I'd say we have a set of fans who almost want us to fail because they can't bear to see Wilder successful. And how is it irrelevant that 92 points would normally guarantee promotion?!

I support United and I'll support Wilder because he's done a superb job and he's our manager. I've seen enough poor or average managers where it became very difficult to support the club because I knew ultimately it would fail; like Bryan Robson and Adrian Heath.

Anyone who wants Wilder out I think is just not realistic or allowing a bias to not accept how well he's done. Sorry, but that's how I see it.

Equally, we have some people who are more anti-Wilder than pro-United. I remember at least one person on here who said they didn't want us to get promoted because he is manager. The anti-Wilder element on here is actually one of the weirdest subsections of a fanbase that I've ever seen. The level of vitriol would be mental towards any manager, much less a club legend. And then there's their obsession with talking about the "backdoor", which probably speaks for itself.

Do you think Wilder has been successful these last few seasons? And do you think he's likely to change his recent record?

Let’s step out of the Chris Wilder debate for a moment….Which manager would Blades fans really want in charge if the board decide to sack him? …

It's absolutely mental mate, I got into a discussion about Wilder on another message board, and one twat told me if Wilder took us down to the National league. He'd still want him managing the club, it's ridiculous how we've got like this with the fans!

So no human involvement whatsoever?
Well, if it's a tech-bro nerd a la, Musk or Zuckerberg, then there's perhaps a debate about their humanity.... But clearly the human involvement comes in specifying the criteria for the search.
Which hopefully doesn't involve Chris Wilder sitting in a room with the tech-bro nerd, because we know how nerds like to eat sandwiches at their desks...

The debate is not Wilder IN or Wilder OUT.

A good company always looks to improve.
Our owners should always be looking at possible alternative managers/managerial structures.
Only when they identify an alternative is it possible for us to decide whether we support or disagree with the change.
So, as CarlMcBlade says it is pointless just to say Wilder should go without saying who we think would be better.

We can say - I think the Board should be looking for a replacement - because they always should be.
We should not say - the Board should not be considering alternatives - because they always should be.
We should not just be saying - sack Wilder - because there may not be any better alternatives.

We shouldn't think about leaving this field until we can clearly see some very green grass on the other side of the fence!

I have genuinely no idea. But none of the names mentioned so far fill me with enthusiasm, which underlines my feeling that keeping him is the obvious choice at this moment in time.

Agreed that it’s weird in itself. I’d love Wilder to do well, I just don’t think he’s progressive enough in his thinking to be able to do so.

His behaviour is also unprofessional and embarrassing at times. Referring to fans as ‘punters’ is also disrespectful.

Whilst I don’t want us just firing him to get another similar manager with less affinity and ties to the club, I’d like to see some kind of statement of intent that we’re moving away from the parochialism and Bladey Blade nonsense that will continue to hold us back.

Isn't AI just software that sifts through BIG data?
The AI is only as good as its sample size. BIG is the key. If you’ve got 10 bits of data you’ll get very poor results. But if you’ve got 10Trillion bits of data it can in a nano second give meaningful results.
That’s why so many American data tech companies want access to our NHS database which I understand is the biggest in the world.
If you want understand the battle for data give “The Coming Wave” by Mustafa Sulaiman a read.

Cringe every time he calls us "punters" 🤮

This isn't a go at people ( well it probably is 😁 )
We can't keep going on about 92 points ! It's gone, it's history if we carry on harping on about it we'll end up as bad as that lot going on about attendance !!
I don't want him here next season as I don't think he'll adapt but love the guy for his achievements here !
Think about it "attendance fc" v "92 points fc"

"Attendance FC" = What the fans do/choose

"92 Points" - what the players and Wilder did.

When looking at a manager next year should we be thinking, can he adapt to AI - recruitment - DoF - modern football

Or is it more important to say - Which manager is more likely to get us to 90+ points and a great chance of automatics?

I would however agree the answer should be both but I know of no-one who fits that.

Next year we can get a couple of Elon Musks AI robot thingys to be both manager and DoF

I’m a bit confused. All I was doing is pointing out that we’re coming into this season off the back of a very good one. I don’t see how it’s irrelevant that we finished more than 20 points better off than any of the teams from last season that will still be around.

I’m no Wilder fan; I didn’t want him back in the first place, and I wouldn’t be too upset to see him go either.
