Just heard from a reliable source that the youh team manager is favourite to take over duties with the first team..

He didn't say it will, he said he could see a scenario where bookies favourite Pembo is assisted by Hart.

It is possible that we have an unpolished managerial gem in Pembo, but my fear is that he won't be successful and in a year's time we'll have lost a manager and excellent youth team manager.

FWIW, the last youth team boss promoted to first team manager by United was Billy McEwan.

Remember Richard Cadette - Jeez. I missed that one off the thread of former Blades strikers worse than Hendo.
He was shocking and was Billy's blue ribbon signing from Millwall.

Not wanting to talk this scenario up, but I'm sure Pembo wouldn't take it if he didn't want it. Also, who cares what Hart did as a manager if he'd be purely an assistant. I wouldn't want Keith Curle, Gerry Francis or Gary McAllister as managers, but they seem to be well thought of as assistants after their managerial careers ground to unspectacular halts.

We have to remember where we are as a club and where we want to go. Both have very good records with youth teams and Hart will give Pemberton experience in dealing with transfers and contracts.

One is a proven failure, the other totally unproven.

That would be a poor appointment even by Utd's standards. As regards who we are and where we want to go, Utd obviously want to go up and as cheaply as possible. We need a good first team manager for that, being good at managing youth teams/academies is a totally different kettle of fish and completely irrelevant to first team results.

I think we need a proven manager, one up and coming with no track record of failure. I would look seriously at Paul Tisdale, Keith Hill, Andy Scott. I think Gus Poyet also has got an excellent track record. He went to Leeds so he could come here?

Poyet's current role: Championship, new stadium, League One champions, money to spend, club with massive potential (huge catchment area)

Us: League One, decent stadium, just relegated, no money, club with massive potential.

He'd have to start again and if I was him, I'd stay put. It'd be a great move for us though!

I think Gus is on too much of a good thing at Brighton - the crest of their wave might not last, but new division, new stadium and momentum would outweigh our prospects substantially

I hope so. Pembo must stay with the youth team developing players, otherwise where are we going to get them from if he really is the best youth team coach in the country?

I think Pemberton should be left where he is, but should have an input into who we bring in as manager because to integrate the youth to the full potential there must be a great understanding between the two with similar foot soling philosophies.

I have to laugh when folks mention Poyet as a realistic candidate for example, we are in shit street and Brighton are flying, so why on earth would he want to leave that for us?

Its ok saying Pembo should be left to manage and coach the youngsters. Would he be content with that. If he really is that good a prospect then others will be waiting in the wings to give him a first team managers job.
