Just a couple of points:

Firstly, well done @Cal

Secondly, it's pretty clear that prior to his injury he was an immense prospect. The injury has seriously hampered his progression and he may never be the player he may have been had he not been injured.

Thirdly, he is signing for us because its the best option available. Whatever went off between him and Clough is in the past. It certainly didn't get Clough the sack so leave it. It's a pointless irrelevant argument that creates animosity for no good reason.

Essentially he has two years to demonstrate he is going to make it, if he is not a regular by 21 yrs he is not likely to make. Given all the hype about his potential I would rather he spent those two years with us - not a great risk and a possible plus.

I'd say more like 'trusted squad player' rather than a regular on the basis hopefully his second season will be as a championship player. He may not reach his previous potential but he could still make it as a player, just not the PL player he may have been.

Whilst I agree in isolation a fallout with DG most likely did not get Clough the sack, it can hardly have helped. Great things were expected of DG not because of anything his agent said or his family (daft or otherwise). Simply because he has excelled at academy level for a number of years and this was recognised by the academy staff the backroom staff and the corporate structure up to and including McCabe.

So to refuse to sign because of a spat with Clough does raise man management issues, and raises eyebrows at United.

I would be angry to. To be recalled to the Blades by Clough from a successful loan spell at York (4 goals in 8) on the 4th of January 2015 to start once in the next 11 Blades games (he scored incidentally) and only make the subs bench on 1 other occasion before being returned to York on the 16th Feb. Maybe a lot on here would accept that but I would be well peed off. If Clough didn't want to play him or didn't rate him, fair enough, then why drag him back from York in order not to play him? Man management at its best.

Mcnulty actually stated that Cloughs management of him actually made him a better player...

Did it go something like:-

'Yes I love playing under Clough, you know where you are with the gaffer. If anything goes wrong I know it will be my fault. I love the constant criticism. let's face it who doesn't, it really brings out the best in me.'

Maybe McNulty was trying to be as professional as he could and not openly criticising a former manager. It's the last thing a player want to do. He doesn't know where his next contract is coming from.

Fair play - and Reed, DCL, and Woolford to all get deals this week you say?
Reed contract will be announced on his birthday which is the 25th July. Adkins wants to see DCL in a couple of friendlies either in the first team or under 21's. This deal is not top of his agenda as the youngster has already signed a three year deal in April under Clough.

The young un I was refering to was the 15yr old lad writing on the web a few days back who got it spot on that Diego would sign a 2yr deal as would two other of Uniteds young players. Maybe that got lost if the Diego threads have been merged, still I don't see any reason for fans to spout the bile towards a young kid who is starting to see a bit of sense rather than believing the hype put out by agents and the media.
Thank you.

Great post.

What i'll add is some people will never see anything wrong with Clough and his man management skills. Butler was Butlers' fault, Collins was because he's just turned into a shite League one defender, McNulty never ran the channels enough, fuck knows what happened as to why Ben Davies wasn't starting or getting any game time whatsoever after his injury, Diego had a bad attitude, Done was apparently injured whilst on the bench even though we had a squad supposedly big enough to cope with such instances. Fit enough to be on the bench you're fit enough to start in my eyes and i say this because if you are carrying an injury, if you then start, you can come off if you're feeling the effects only using one substitute, whereas if you come on after say an hour and then still feel the effects and end up coming off, you end up using two substitutions which isn't good for the tactical side of the game and limits your resources. If there's any i've forgot i do apologise but don't hesitate to remind me of them.

If people keep sticking up for a failure i'll keep on stating many reasons as to what was letting him down, now although we don't know the goings on, Cloughy can not surely be blameless in last years sorry episode.

Again, i'm sorry for bringing these things up but some people in the thread keep bringing Cloughy into proceedings like he did fuck all wrong at the club we support, Clough won't give one flying fuck about our club now he's gone and proved so in how he got rid of Doyle, although he was a limited player he gave everything for the cause for this club and left nothing out there, now can that be said about the messiah? Can it fuck.

you were implying that Diego didnt have any attitude and the problems were all one sided from Clough

this shows they were not always one sided, as Clough had nothing to do with the demands of the petulant one, if he also "wanted to play for Chris Wilder" that much why not go and sign for him now rather than sign a 3 year deal with us....

and you can say nothing, which is what many do, Mcnulty actually stated that Cloughs management of him actually made him a better player...

No, I was implying Clough could have managed the young kid better. One sided or not, Clough's the manager.

Why not sign for Northampton above us? Hmmmmmm.

McNulty was very likely to be out of the door this summer. Clough knew that, and he knew that. Ask him now Clough's gone if he's happier he's got a fresh chance....

We'll simply disagree on it all. I hope under Adkins we've found a better manager than Clough, who did have my support and who I actually think would've got us promotion this year.
