CONFIRMED New Contract For Diego.....

Correction: If his name was Dave Smith, people who hadn't seen him play before the injury wouldn't be bothered.
Ol' Dave wouldn't get the laughable bollocks about him wearing a cap proves he's a Billy Big Time neither.

I have no opinion on Diego's football ability, just hope he takes his chance now. From what I've heard I don't blame him wanting away from Clough, and as said above, its telling that Adkins wants him around and he's signed a deal.

Haha it's not him this time it's me and you can all have your doubts but think it is going to be announced at around 4pm Monday but could make the announcement Tuesday. Also there is a transfer story by me tomorrow which confirms a signing that will take place this week as well as two new contracts. Suggest you have a look at The72 from around 10:00 am tomorrow.
By the way if the announcement is after Tuesday then come and have a giggle by all means but Diego has definitely signed a new deal.

Well done lad!

Isn't that why we were stuck with Collins, he had the right to extend his contract?

If that were the case I'd be surprised and shocked. Whoever was responsible for negotiating contracts with the playing staff was negligent if they allowed a player to include that type of clause. Apart from bog standard clauses, all contracts will have a few negotiated clauses that are arrived at through supposedly reasonable discussion, but something as financially far-reaching as a contract extension should be at the club's behest, so I doubt that Collins or his agent carried enough clout to swing this in their favour.

I wouldn't doubt that tbh.
Didn't the old clogger cb we signed from Stoke (who's name escapes me ATM) take up an option on an extension before we managed to convince colchester I think it was to take him off our hands.

Couldn't give a flying about this. Shown absolutely nothing in a Blades shirt, ended up on the bench in league 2 last season. Thinks he's already made it. Stick him back in the U21s.

If his name was Dave Smith, no one would be bothered.
I'll give him some credit when he does something for this club that deserves credit.

Scoring against PNE in cup ?, setting up a goal for Kitson prior to his bad injury ?, couple of things in credit bank surely Leonardo ?

I wouldn't doubt that tbh.

I can't recall the player you mention Kev, but even in his case an extension would almost certainly have been included by the club, not by the player. There are exceptions of course, but not too many.

Was it Paul Richardson we signed from Stoke City . If it was he was a clogger.:)

UTB

Just wondering where he's going to get a chance, would you pick him ahead of Scougall, Done, Mcnulty or even Adams, and what happens to his chances if we were to sign Sharp ?

Here's a 19 year old who's played 20 times for Bradford without scoring a single goal, yet being signed by Swansea. We shouldn't only look at goal records when assessing young strikers, sometimes it takes time for them to get going at senior level.

http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/33515412

I've seen encouraging things from Diego every time I've watched him and think it's great news that he's signed on.

The thing is, based on minutes on the pitch in senior football, Diego is already scoring one goal every 280 minutes (ie just a shade over 3 games). And that, in his first season in senior football after a horrendous injury. Yes, it's only 5 goals in total and mainly L2 football but he's still a teenager.

This is fantastic news. He might not make it, but he undoubtedly has the talent to do so.

He's only played 19 minutes of L1 football for United (over 2 years ago when he was 17, just before his injury). But if he has come back fitter, stronger and determined to succeed, I think he could be a very useful player to have coming off the bench.

We've now got an attack-minded manager and that will help all of the players to be more positive

Good luck Diego. If you get to pull on a red and white shirt, I for one will be right behind you wanting you to succeed.

Im glaf because o remember that JPT game??? at Coventry a few years ago that he came off bench & was pretty good. Although what do you think the u turn is about cloughs exit or juventus never materialised

Can somebody put this "Juve" myth to bed once and for all, please? Wasn't it one guy who came to watch MUFC kids and literally just said "that lad can play a bit"?

credit for picking us over York?

yeh right.
The young un I was refering to was the 15yr old lad writing on the web a few days back who got it spot on that Diego would sign a 2yr deal as would two other of Uniteds young players. Maybe that got lost if the Diego threads have been merged, still I don't see any reason for fans to spout the bile towards a young kid who is starting to see a bit of sense rather than believing the hype put out by agents and the media.

Good luck to him. Whenever I've seen him he's grafted as well as showing talent. Not sure it'll be enough but we may get to see it unfold here and not elsewhere.

Love it how the agent gets battered when all that happened, in short, was Clough 'didn't like' him resulting in other clubs making enquiries for when his contract came up.

so when the lad demanded to be recalled from York after he was dropped to the bench in orer to get a loan move to Northampton (despite stating only weeks earlier how the York lads and management had been wonderful to him...)

was that something to do with Clough too.... No it was to do with him thinking he was better than he was (or rather his Dad thinking so)

barring a 20minute spell vs Coventry when he first burst on the scene and a 4 game spell for League 2 York he has done nothing to inspire me to be anything but over hyped... it's a shame, he clearly has the ability but not the attitude as when I have seen him play he simply looked like he couldnt be bothered.

and Clough didnt need to play him at all if he "didnt like him" yet he did andd when he did he displayed the above noted "CBA"

Nah. He's just to blame for a few good cup runs, getting us out of the mess he inherited, not doing enough time at the training ground to make us a Championship Club and mishandling potentially useful players like Butler, Collins, Doyle, Diego, Scougall, McNulty and co.

Mcnulty is actually quoted as saying the way Clough handled him actually benefited him...

and everyone supposingly wanted Doyle out/dropped anyway.... but because clough did it no-one liked it.

Seems reasonable to me

Though I think it is fair to say, next time he turns out for the Blades there will be a lot more paying attention to his efforts

He has got himself in the spotlight .............................

Where did I say that was to do with Clough? It was more to do with him wanting to go and play for Chris Wilder.

As for McNulty...ask him face to face and not through the media. What's he supposed to do, batter a manager? Great career move. See the same for Scoogs and Butler too.

If Doyle needed dropping or not is irrelevant, it's how Clough did it that caused players to lose respect for him.

If Clough worked as hard as other managers around, Adkins included I'd say, I reckon he'd have succeeded. He also needs to gain some management skills, and not sure he's got that in him. He may learn... time will tell.

Bit of both really. Other clubs still wanted, but once Clough left then a big change at the club.

The place is buzzing at the minute it seems. A centre half or two would help even more...

Ahead of Scougall, definitely.

True admitally like sterling agent they like to make stuff up to force a teams hand thru the media. As Ive heard teams like juve benfica Sunderland man utd & arsenal

where?? and everyone says Lampard says Monty was the best player.. yadda yadda
as for Doyle. it was the 'manner' .. shocking.

it was on an interview with him, it was also stated in the star, (yes not the most relaible but when the guy himself says it I tend to beleive it... unless you think it was clough putting on a faux scottish accent....

you were implying that Diego didnt have any attitude and the problems were all one sided from Clough

this shows they were not always one sided, as Clough had nothing to do with the demands of the petulant one, if he also "wanted to play for Chris Wilder" that much why not go and sign for him now rather than sign a 3 year deal with us....

and you can say nothing, which is what many do, Mcnulty actually stated that Cloughs management of him actually made him a better player...

Just a couple of points:

Firstly, well done @Cal

Secondly, it's pretty clear that prior to his injury he was an immense prospect. The injury has seriously hampered his progression and he may never be the player he may have been had he not been injured.

Thirdly, he is signing for us because its the best option available. Whatever went off between him and Clough is in the past. It certainly didn't get Clough the sack so leave it. It's a pointless irrelevant argument that creates animosity for no good reason.
