Amazing to think that a league one club has beat off the likes of Juventus for his signature
Did you see his quote on the OS? It's quality... Basically after thinking about it (waiting for offers) he realised that there wasn't that much interest and decided to stay with us rather than end up at York/ Northampton level

Hopefully now he'll show he's worthy of his deal and break into the first eleven. It's been a difficult couple of years for him due to injury and the possibility that he's believed his own hype a little too early. But he's only 19, certainly young enough to forgive his mistakes and hopefully talented enough to make a positive impression in the team.

Haha it's not him this time it's me and you can all have your doubts but think it is going to be announced at around 4pm Monday but could make the announcement Tuesday. Also there is a transfer story by me tomorrow which confirms a signing that will take place this week as well as two new contracts. Suggest you have a look at The72 from around 10:00 am tomorrow.
By the way if the announcement is after Tuesday then come and have a giggle by all means but Diego has definitely signed a new deal.

Fair play - and Reed, DCL, and Woolford to all get deals this week you say?

No Adkins at the official signing?

[QUOTE="LoughboroBlade, post: 790235,

No Adkins at the official signing?[/QUOTE]

Reckon that's him on the right and someones photoshopped a random head on him.

PS: Sorry, IOM pipped me to it! Probably as I was bollocksing about trying to get the picture out of the quote and screwing it all up!

Great that Diego has come in from the cold it's up to him now 2years contract takes a bit of pressure off him. I'm of the opinion that cloughS treatment of Diego and mcnuts was well meant as he was trying to improve t dimpress on them the need to work hard for the team.I feel he got it wrong somewhere maybe too much like his dad without the charisma Brian had.,an arm round might have been better but anyway we are where we are and both have the opportunity. to shine I hope they grab it with both hands.all this talk of Clough not liking them is tosh in my opinion.maybe cloughy himself will learn from the mistakes he made. As playing hardball is not always the best way.

I think the dig is more at those suggesting clubs like Juventus were interested. As expected, this was utter bollocks.
Juventus was looking at him Daz, along with many other clubs, why is that so hard to believe? He's played in Italy on a numerous occasions and they have propably decided he hasn't got the potential to play for them, i don't think it's rocket Science really. Maybe all the doubters might get behind him now if he earns his chance and then takes it, but then again...................

I supposed they might have looked at him in the sense that a scout popped along to an Italy U20 game and saw him in action. People seemed to suggest they had a serious interest in signing him. That's what was bollocks.

I know that when John Pemberton ran our academy, he said that DDG was the best 16 year old he had ever seen anywhere. There were numerous reports of Manyoo watching him, so I wouldn't be surprised if Juve were keeping tabs too.

The injury set him back badly and who know if he will ever reach the potential he showed as a youth. Given the relatively low wages he must be on, then I happen to think it's a worthwhile gamble.

Forget all the jibes, he's signed now and is a Blade. Let's get behind the lad like we would behind anyone else.

But as many of us said at the time, looking at someone is very different to actually being anywhere close to offering a deal to them. As I'd have thought was abundantly obvious by this saga. We'll have scouts keeping an eye on a load of players. Nearly all of those will likely never play for the club. Juve probably scouts all Italian youth players - they'll have the capacity to. If they were genuinely interested in De Girolamo, he wouldn't have signed for us - they could have got him this summer for a pittance. Based on what they've seen of him so far, they clearly didn't think he was worth it.

They propably weren't going to sign him, we really don't know if they were serious or not but they were certainly scouting the lad, actually signing him would have been a big step for DDG to take but it surely must show how good he could be if clubs like that have looked at him in the first place.

I've said as much in my post regarding Juve thinking he hasn't got the potential to play for them. Signing him was a step too far, that much is obvious but he must have something to be scouted by a lot of other clubs from England aswell as Italy, top clubs aswell. I think he's done the right thing in signing for us rather than go elsewhere.

No one has doubted that he has potential Wiz, but people were sick and tired of hearing his brilliance being spouted by fanboys without much hard evidence to back it up. He clearly had an issue with Clough for whatever reasons but that is all behind us.

New deal, new chance for the lad and hopefully he realises his potential. No one wants him to fail.

I met his annoying ex in the smoking area of the Nursery Tavern. He must have broken up with her on the day as she was pissed on that old cheap wine while throwing pandora charms down the drain. We conversed for a while and I agreed that he had a shit haircut but appart from sounding like abit of a cunt, I think young Diego made the right choice that day and i think hes made the right choice today. I know this story bares no relevence to anything but everytime I hear his name Im reminded of making his ex go a little loco by starting a rendition of Mambo Italiano.

I get the jist of the post BW but people on here have doubted his potential and are already chucking snipe comments out, in a way he might aswell have fucked off then some might have been happier.

Wouldn't say utter bollocks, might say exaggerated just a tad. Anybody playing for the Italian U18s and then U20s who isn't affiliated to a Serie A club is going to attract attention. That interest wasn't followed up to any great degree, given the stall in his progress understandable. I also think there would be some concern as to the full impact of the injury. Would he lose nerve, pace, flexibility as a result of the injury? No way would they be gambling anything on a possible crock in Shefield, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are still Italian clubs who will monitor from afar, assessing progress, injury and attitude. Just because they did nothing this summer, doesn't mean they've no interest.
