Not quite.....the patron saint of Milan is Saint Ambrose, but confusingly he has the same flag as Saint George. They had a punch up in a medieval pub carpark about it once.

Indeed. Ambrose accused George of being a mythical construct who had no empricial existence. George called Ambrose a cunt.

The red and yellow stripes are the colours of Catalonia.

Were they founded by an English person?
I think so, doesn't that go for one of the Milan teams too?
Swiss and English t'old wiki says

I don't know if anyone noticed (or I'm late) but at some point the club updated our crest. It features a white stroke, more even proportions, simplified handles on the blades and neater typography (nicer writing).

The new badge first appeared on our 2012-13 macron kit.

Above I've attached a comparison of the old implementation and the new version. Curious to see if anyone even noticed there was a change.

The typography hasn't really changed - same typeface, same weight, same tracking but slightly smaller for a more balanced layout.

The rose is basically the same as well, it's lower resolution than the image of the old badge so you can't see the detail.

Bit of a pointless re-work, apart from the white stroke it's essentially the same.

If it ain't broke...

I think the rose has changed significantly. thicker line, the thorns have been reduced, no detail in the centre.

It basically doesn't look like a rose anymore.

That said, i prefer the rework.

Thorns definitely are slightly smaller but it's hard to say if the rest is different without seeing it in full resolution.

Last couple of years Ched's been involved in the Arts and Craft group. New design is what him and his mates have come up with

....oh FFS another Ched Thread

A while ago I thought it would be a good idea to make a logo for the Scandinavian Blades, but the idea stranded when I found this was the best I could do:

A similar thing happened with my attempts to do a London Blades badge...

I just think its a more modern version of our old badge. The changes were so slight that most of us never noticed. The biggest thing is the changed proportions and tighter positioning of the rose, blades etc. makes it look more professional and modern.

To see the true differences all you have to do is compare the badge on a new adidas kit and on an old le coq kit. It's strange because the 'new' badge is only used on things such as the website, kit and sky sports etc. a google search for it returns the old one. (probably because no one noticed! lol)

I believe Barca were founded by an Englishmen and a Spanish geeza

They were founded by Arthur Witty (English) and Hans Kamper (Swiss). The Swiss fella had much more of an involvement and is considered the main founder. He even 'Catalonianised' his name to Joan Gamper. They play a friendly tournament to this day called the Gamper Cup.

As a piece of design, it's far more balanced now and the awful kerning (specifically between the I, T and D of UNITED) of the "old" badge has been resolved. The length of the text has also been reduced so that no letter decends below the horizon (and is therefore technically upside-down) which also gives more breathing space for the wording within the red ring. And they've straightened up the rose (look closely, it was on the piss). My only gripe is with the scimitar handles. They were awful before so this is a big improvement but it still looks like a rounded-rectangle duplicated 3 times and slapped on. Altogether though, good job.

Might only be small things but it needed doing, especially if we want to align ourselves with global brands.

Arthur Witty joined shortly after Barcelona were formed. The first Englishmen involved were Walter Wild and brothers John and William Parsons

Valencia are also Catalans and both Barca and Valencia have been known to have "Catalan kits"

Not quite correct. The colours for both are from the Kingdom of Aragon, from back when Spain was divided into numerous kingdoms. That Kingdom grew to include the territory of Valencia which previously had been a kingdom in its own right.

I don't think Valencians would consider themselves Catalans in the same way, and the colours being used on a shirt are more to do with anti-Madrid sentiment/regional pride in a Valencian sense. The Catalan independence movement certainly does not encompass Valencia (yet).

St. George is the patron saint of Catalonia.

I imagine BOS was being facetious mentioning Bradford and Palace but just incase...

The Yellow/Red stripes is the flag of Catalonia.
The english flag is the flag of St. George
The blue/red stripes are Barcelona's colours.

I remember after England played Spain in Madrid and all the racist chants were aimed at our black players, one of the english clubs played Barcelona the following week and Barcelona fans held up boards showing the St. George flag on one stand, the catalonia flag on the other and the words "Catalonia is not Spain".

They do this quite often and many see themselves as Catalans not Spaniards. I know a lady who lives in Barcelona and she "claims" she didn't cheer when Spain won the World Cup. Apparently it's a massive thing around that area of Spain. They want independance.
