Near Sell Out on Saturday

The club originally gave Kop STHs priority to move into the area till yesterday morning, at which point this was opened to STHs anywhere. If you were to open that up to matchday sales a few days ago that stops a potential STH move. It’s not an ideal situation, but I imagine that when the initial deadlines were given for the STH moves the likelihood that this would come close to sell out was very low – which to be fair was still the case 7 days ago.
What's all this "to be fair" nonsense?

We don't do "fair" on here.

It's every poster for themselves and loudest, most aggressive, voice wins.

Just took a look. Only area on sale is that corner, showing two remaining. All other areas locked.

That's not to say that others might become available due to the unfathomable system, but it's definitely a top effort by

Who can forget United v Newcastle in the League Cup 3rd round when we played em under Bassett in 1989

Was rammed that night in the Kop, and "busy' all over the ground. Official attendance 17,900.... they announced it over the tannoy and everyone just laughed. It must have been nearer 30k if not more. It was blatant fiddling by the club (remember it was still standing on the kop in those days and that had a large capacity by itself).

Third division SUFC beat first division Newcastle (with Brazilian Mirandinha and a couple of other stars) 3-0. So no one was bothered about the attendance. Someone made some money that night though.

You think we have it bad?

In midweek over at S6 they had two rows of stewards separating the Grimsby fans in West Stand from the Grimsby fans in the North Stand!

Only in Sheffield.
You've not encountered Grimsby fans before have you 😉

Remember going there when we played in 94 after relegation. Kicked off everywhere. Me and a mate walked up a residential road back towards his car and decided to call in this chippy just as we heard a big shout down the road.

He was adamant he was hungry whilst I quickly worked out we were outnumbered at least 5 to 1.

A quick perusal of the counter made me realise wooden chip forks and a plastic vinegar bottle weren't going to be much use fending them off, so we were on our toes.

Only stand in the ground I've never been in but it looks to me at least, like about quarter of that stand won't give a view of the BL end.

When the away end at Forest was still standing, there was a section in the back corner where you could only one goal.

I also turned up at Scunny one night to find there was pillar literally right in front of my seat. Had to sway side to side all through the game.

Probably a few more over the years that I can't think of off the top of my head.
Was Highbury similar? If you were on the back rows where the seating was (i think down the side of the pitch), you couldn't see the far side of the pitch when everyone stood up, because the upper tier came down so low.

I'm sure it was Highbury.

That can happen anywhere especially back in those times if you was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Remember being kicked out the ground at Port Vale with a couple of mates back in the 80s (long story) as the game was on, and as we were walking up the hill to a boozer we were being tailed by about 10 Vale who were looking for it and giving the verbals. Me back then and my mates were game as they come, but we knew it wasnt going to end well for us. Until we got to the pub and found about 30 Blades sat in there who were well known faces and a few of them from my neck of the woods... it didn't end well for the Vale fans when they turned up expecting to give us a hiding...it was like the Fetterman massacre.

Might well be right. Seem to remember a low roof on the terrace.

Spot on - I rushed home from work & picked up my Dad en route. Queues outside John Street getting in - it was absolutely rammed. As you say easily nearer 30,000 than 17,000 that night. But that happened a lot many years ago. You should have been at the Blades v Peterborough match in D4 in 1982. Published attendance was 24,000 - more like nearer 35,000!!! Them were the days!

Was those the day of Woolhouse by any chance?

I was at the home game v Peterborough...(4-0 if memory serves me right and a pitch invasion at the end) and I was at the reverse midweek fixture too, also 4-0 to United). Yes they were fiddling the gates on a regular basis I think. The game v Port Vale which was a draw at the Lane on a foul rainy stormy night, was also another example (season Wolves finished first, and us and Vale also went up in 89). The official attendance must have been halved from the actual attendance.

I was 10 it was the first time I'd ever seen football violence. I remember lots of fighting near McDonald's. I think we drew 0.0

Woolhouse was a director then. Reg was still the chairman. I liked RB but he was also as dodgy as they come in a business sense. I remember hearing about him fiddling the pension fund for the workers at his jute making factory in India, which is shameful really. So scruples and morality didn't come into their thinking, if the financial reward was sufficient enough.

In the 1971/1972 season, I remember been in Bramall Lane, Easter Tuesday I think. We played Manchester United. Attendance given as 48000. And only three sides

The Stranglers are still a fantastic live band. This may be controversial, but Baz is a big upgrade on Hugh and has now been with the band a lot longer than Hugh was. There aren’t many other bands from that era that in my opinion are still worth seeing, but I strongly recommend Ruts DC.
The Ruts DC are great live. I was lucky enough to see The Ruts with Malcolm Owen live at Cambridge Corn Exchange. SLF are still kings. Jake Burns still rasping away and Ali McMordie still there from the original lineup. Steve Grantley who’s been on the drums for years.
