Neal Maupay

Burnley - Place where strikers not names Barnes and Wood go to kill their career. Wells and Vydra spring to mind.

Newcastle - ain’t giving anyone 20m for a striker

Brighton - can’t see Maupay being a lone striker in the PL

Villa - who fucking knows with them

Norwich - play with a loan striker too and pukki likely to be that guy. Don’t seem to be the club to pay that amount of money, when their manager knows the foreign market.

Not really sure where this big market for Maupay is personally

I read earlier that almost all negotiations between a club and the player's agent are done via WhatsApp believe it or not. Think I got it from the independent.

I might be wrong but I think a buying club can approach a player's agent without permission from the player's current club. I'd then suppose if there is interest from the player and his agent then permission must be sort from the selling club for the buying club to speak to the player. Not sure at what point an offer is put in though.

Edit: here you go..

Cheers Mak!

So what you’re trying to say is either Brentford, Maupays agent or Sheff United haven’t got any Wi-fi and they’re paying to get a £5 top up on Tuesday to get the deal through? 🤣

Haha quality and probably very true lol

If we could bag Maupay and mcburnie i would be alot more optimistic about our season., but Im also a bit concerned about midfield. we need real competition for fleck.
I'm guessing Freeman could easily cover Fleck if required.

We're very fearful. We live in hope and with some of the signings we are making, we would love to persuade him him to give us more season. There is no doubt that he has a lot of affection for the club. Realistically though, he's got a very busy agent and he'll be gone if someone comes up with our valuation. Someone's got to be brave enough to find £20m+ though.
By taking Brentford off his twitter bio it's pretty clear he wants to play in the Prem. Do you think you would keep an unhappy player?

So the agents for all their millions don't have to talk face to face or even over the phone.

Sounds about right.
Isn’t a WhatsApp conversation encrypted? If so makes sense as there’s a written record of the conversation and any agreements but they are harder to hack than emails and not open to the vagaries of memory of face to face conversations

Yep, end to end encryption, which I suspect is why they use it. Though I think there was a hack a few weeks back.

Yes, that seems to be a rumour although there's plenty of BFC posts on it. We're not giving millions away because a player is unhappy. No one will force him to stay but we're not going to get shafted.

You remind me of RugRon, the Southend manager who kept saying their player of the year Ryan Leonard of league 1 was not going anywhere unless their 1.5 million valuation was met, think we offered £500 then £700K, then got him in the end for (think it was £900).

I’ll place a friendly bet, that there’s no way Brentford will get offered 20 million by any club.
He’s never played in the PL and only had 1 good season.
There are plenty of players that have been brilliant in the Championship but struggled in the PL, like Dwight Gayle, Chris Wood, Jay Rodriguez. Ryan Sessignon.
Those players now have PL experience, much more experience than Maupay, but I doubt any of the above would cost 20 million.

Even Che Adams (top performer at CC level) only cost 11 million the other week. Top international Anoutevic of West Ham has just been sold for 22 million.
Players are only worth what’s offered but a fairer price (based on other players) is 15 million tops. Any club offering more is getting shafted.
Shafting Brentford would be getting him for 10 million. I’d say Billy Sharp is probably a better striker but of course age is not on his side.

Sticking a 20 million price tag, is basically saying Morpay is not for sale, unless a club offers crazy money.
I rate Maupay as a good prospect but we need to see if he’s not a 1 season wonder like Pukey at Norwich before really big bids come in for him.

Fair enough. Good luck with that.

Does anybody actually know how a football club makes a bid for a player? The actual full process of placing a bid? You'd think it would be as simple as sending an email or making a phone call and offering a specific amount of cash, but then you hear news items of clubs "preparing to make a bid." Wtf does that mean? Is there repercussions for making a bid and it being rejected? If not, what takes so long to make one for a player a club has identified as the right target?

I'm not taking the piss either. I want to know why it takes so long.

It’s something us Westerners aren’t very good at. It’s called “haggling” and done properly it takes ages.

It’s fun!

We should remember 3 things:

1. We want to buy
2. Brentford want to sell
3. Maupay wants to play in the Prem

Ermmmm ... 1 of those is incorrect.

This quote tonight from the Brentford forum..

“Egan had two years here to show he could play in our style and he couldn't. Despite what they'll tell you Sheffield United are still comparatively direct in how they move through the defensive third. They don't require the same technical levels in their CBs.”

Yet we are where we are, and they are where they are.

Sessegnon will easily go for more than £20m, but the difference is Fulham won’t be selling to a newly promoted club, they’ll more than likely sell to Spurs which is a whole different level.

The majority of those players you mention are 30 or nearly 30 so it stands to reason that their values are going to start dropping.

Che Adams is probably the best comparison but all selling clubs circumstances are different which can obviously change things. Personally I think James Maddison is a good example of the maximum fee, he reportedly went for £20m, which you would assume includes the add ons. So something like £15m + £5m in add ons, I could definitely see Maupay going for regardless of that being to United or not.
