It’s a drag though. I worked with a couple of people that came in from Colchester area and their days were ridiculously long. A lot come in from Kent and Sussex, which isn’t too bad. It depends if you’re expected to be a time server and stick to rigid hours. I found the ones that managed commuting best were the senior people, who could afford first class and worked on their commute. One of the partners at my old place lived in Bournemouth.
Any area around London that you can reasonably commute from tends to be quite expensive. Apart from Luton.

Actually I tell a lie. They did piss about with the Hogan transfer and as a result the fee crept up and up as we got closer to the deadline.

Do your business early and discreetly, and you'll pay a lot less. Know your targets and you'll get them - agents will know if a player is more than likely than not to join, and will also know the fee the club will accept.

Once a club has those primary pieces of information then a deal should be be straight forward. Chasing players who aren't keen on joining will leave a club scrabbling around for overpriced talent with a few days of the window left.

Got no idea if Villa are genuinely in for him. Smith generally plays one up top and they've just spent £25m on a new striker and have options in reserve. Lots of lazy journalism out there at the moment. BHA seem to be the new interested party... could be bollocks.

Maybe true but Villa spending recently has shown that arguably if they believed that Maupay would be a success in the prem they would happily have paid and paid the full whack up front possibly, the amounts they have spent surely lends weight to that theory

I think if you are holding out for your value then time may be running out; sure you can keep him but your keeping a player who wants to play in a higher league and whose value will drop quite a bit if your not challenging come January or not up by end of season

I mean how much time do you realistically have to get something done based, admittedly on assumptions here, belief that someone may come in last hour desperate and willing to pay? Do you think they still pay top whack if you leave him out first game of season ?
