Does anyone know anything about when he's due back? Will he even ever play again? I hope so as he was a quality player and about a million times better than Stewart and Taylor combined.

Last I heard, he was hoping to be back for April. He was targeting being back and ready before the Pig match.

I guess we'll be offloading him in the summer won't we? Best get used to Taylor and Stewart for the forseable future

To second Foxy, he is planning to be back for the Coventry game in April. I read in the Green Un that he had injured his knee and would be out for a little longer. He was keen to point out that it wasn't a recurrance of the crucitae damage he did, but a different injury 9albeit on the same knee!?).

Personally I've given up hope of Naysmith. He was a very good defender last year, but I can't see him having much more of a Sheffield United career. He's the last of the big earners from the Robson era and I think Blackwell will be looking to shift him because of this. Additionally there is the match fitness issue. Even if he was to come back next month then he is likely to be off the pace. He'll need games to get him up to match fitness.

Maybe he is an option for next season. He is only 31 (so not that old) and seems determined to carry on playing. However I wouldn't be surprised if we let him go on a free over the summer. I suspect he may go back over the border to finish his career. Does anyone know how long he has left on his contract?

His contract is up in June.

Thanks Wards. Well he is definately a goner. So we lose another member of the playing staff (although it is expected). I'd be shocked if we offered him a new deal.

To be fair to him, I heard him on RS last week sometime and he was saying he accepted that he would have to take a pay cut.

It's simply a matter of how much of a cut he's willing to accept and if there is any other club willing to better it (I doubt it unless he can get back into the team before May).

He sounded one of the few realistic players around at the moment.

So in a perverse way we don't really want him to come back this season!!? If he comes back in April and plays 5 or 6 decent games, then he puts himself in the shop window. If so, someone will almost certainly come in for him. I'd love us to hang onto him and I gues it is a possibility if he's willing to take a decrease in salary. Still, i'm not optimistic!?

My Understanding is this....

He developed a 'Fat pad' which I asked my physio about and she said isn't unheard of after the knee has been disturbed through surgery. Apparently we all have fat pockets, but they can be quite painful and restrictive if they become inflamed. As Ollesendro said, it wasn't a reinjury of the cruciate, but i'm not sure if he had minor surgery to to help the 'fat pad' or not .

As for his contract, it sounded like we're waiting until May because "we don't know what division we'll be in" I quite like the way he comes across in the interviews i've read, although he can leave on a free in the summer, he wants to try and earn a new contract. Probably this is us holding back to protect our budget because we're skint

He got injured after Jagileka and Kags has (i think) played 4 games for Everton. I think Naysmith got injured around 1 - 1.5 months later

I think Jordan Stewart's contract is up in the summer. We just took over his old Derby one as they did with Lee Hendrie's iirc. I would be amazed if he got a new deal ...

Prepare to be amazed!

Naysmith injured on 20 April 2009 v Burnley Away
Jags injured on 25 April 2009 v Man City

If I recall correctly, Jag's injury was more complicated.

Both had their op on the same day by the same surgeon and travelled back up north together afterwards to start their rehab together.

Both have had set backs, but Jag's set back was earlier and was cartilage related

Incidentally Arteta also had the same injury about a month before Jags but only came back a week before him.

It all depends on the individual damage and the speed of their bodies to recover, so some come back quicker than others
