...in this picture.
I can get most of them but who's standing next to Ian Bryson? (IB is on the back row last on the left in case you were wondering).

Bryson, Lake, Jones, Deane, Kite, Booker, Beesley, Hoyland, Hodges
Wilder, Bradshaw, Pemberton, Tracey, Hill, Agana, Gannon
Marwood, Whitehouse, (Ward?), Medonca, (Lucas?), (?)

It is indeed Zico. Only one I'm not sure of on there is sat between Whitehouse and Bassett - is it Richard Lucas? Not sure he ever made a first team appearance.

Other than that:

Back row L-R Bryson, Lake, Jones, Deane, Kite, Booker, Beesley, Holland, Hodges
Middle row L-R French, Wilder, Bradshaw, Pemberton, Tracey, Hill, Agana, Gannon, Taylor
Front row L-R Marwood, Whitehouse, Lucas (?) Bassett, Mendonca, Ward, Cowan

Yes the 'uncertain' is Richard Lucas. made a handful of first team appearances and actually did pretty well from memory. I seem to remember he performed very well against an excellent Villa side and marked the dangerous Tony Daley out of the game.

Beat me to it :-)

It's the 91-92 pre-season photo.

That's right. He was a surprise addition to the team and most in the crowd were wondering who on Earth he was. Bassett had a real tendency to throw youngsters into tough situations on their debuts and it tended to work.

Actually Bassettt, had a very poor record in introducing players from the youth team - only 6 in 8 years played league games

1988 Chris Downes, Dane Whitehouse
1990 Mitch Ward, Richard Lucas
1995 Graham Anthony, Tony Battersby

John Reed.
The first Paul Wood.

Homer nods :-)

So that's 8 in 8 years and if I remember rightly Wood and Anthony only made one sub appearance and only Whitehouse and Ward were ever first team regulars (perhaps also arguably Reed during 94-5)

Nitpicking but Geordie only said 'young players on their debuts', not necessarily graduates from the youth team. So you can probably add the likes of Simon Tracey and Jonas Wirmola to the list as well.

Youth teamers introduced to first team by Bassett who played league games under him;

Dane Whitehouse 143 games +22 sub under Bassett
Mitch Ward 74 games + 16 sub
John Reed 11 games + 2 sub
Richard Lucas 8 games + 2 sub
Tony Battersby 3 games + 6 sub
Ross Davidson 2 games
Chris Downes 2 games
Steve Hawes 1 game +1 sub
Graham Anthony 1 sub appearance
Paul Wood 1 sub appearance

Davidson was signed from Walton and Hersham so doesn't count :-)

We both missed Hawes first time round....

Ah, I always assumed Davidson was a youth teamer.

Signed in August 93 I believe. He was way out of his depth anyways, he and Hawes on the right side v Derby at home in Oct 95 were 2 of the worst performances I have ever seen.

Did Che Bunce ever play a game? I remember nothing about him other than his name and the fact he was from New Zealand.

Nathan Peel was only young but I believe we signed him. I never saw him either.

Bunce never played

Peel was signed from Preston in the summer of 91 and his only appearance was to be brought on as sub in injury time when we were winning 1-0 at Spurs on 23/11/91 in order to wind down the clock (I was there!), Him and Carl Muggleton vie for the "shortest United first team career" title.
