Being Naughty
I don't think we're that bad.
We lost two first half goals which were both very well taken. The first goal came from a deflected cross. The second goal was a cracker, which came following a stumble from one of our lads in the build up on the very wet ground in that corner of the pitch. I doubt if they had those chances again they would hit the target more than three times in ten.
The third goal was poor and this is where I would single out Westlake as a weak link. He just doesn't seem good enough and has had enough chances. I have also decided that Flynn is not really good enough, he is too small and lacks conviction and composure, particularly when he had that good chance to score when through on goal and just blasted the ball straight at the goalkeeper.
I thought McGinn was excellent when he came on, some terrific corners and overall industry. His introduction change the game. Taylor looked hungry and keen to do well. He was lucky with the first goal through the wall, but his header was well placed from a good cross.
Hall is better than Flynn and we should try and extend his loan.
I thought Coady was quite good he certainly tried his best and should have scored at least one goal with a diving header. He came into the game more when McGinn arrived and I am sure this was as a result of a change in system/tactics.
Collins and Maguire were up against two in form strikers, arguably the best forward line in the league on a wet slippery pitch trying to make up for a weak right back and a midfield over run in the first half. It was never going to be easy.
We could have won that match and the fight back was excellent, some real spirit. Brandy deserves a mention. I like him, quite tenacious and tricky he is a good player at this level.
I am not sure about Doyle. I somehow think he does the things we don't see, and if he wasn't there it could be worse? (Can it get worse?) I would like to see a set-up without him but don't know who in our squad could cover his position or whether a midfield of
Hall McGinn Coady Brandy would work?
Overall some positives to come from the second half performance. I am still mulling over whether I would like Morgan to take the managers job for this year.
Glad I went to the game. Enjoyed a quick pint in the Malt Shovel before the match, very nice indeed.
