There's always a weirdness surrounding us and Coady. First, the fact that Liverpool sold him to Huddersfield for less than we'd allegedly already bid (obviously some subterfuge there). Then the outlandish rumour that we'd bid for him this time last year, despite the fact he was the captain of a Premier League side.

Tufty confirmed that we had! I heard the interview.

Regarding Coady: To be fair they were only a Championship club at the time, albeit a filthy rich one. No issues with us aiming high even in this instance.

Is the definition of "subterfuge" the player choosing to join a club in a higher division ?

No.

I forget the exact figures, but the story at the time went that Liverpool knocked back a bid from us of, say, £750,000. Then later that Summer he went to Huddersfield for £500,000.

If we'd had a bid accepted, Liverpool wouldn't have then sold him for less. Similarly if they'd turned down our bid, accepting less from Hudderfield thereafter seems unlikely. If we were outbid, fine. If Huddersfield matched our bid, and Coady chose them over us as they were at a higher level, fine. But that's not what was reported at the time.

Either the bids were misreported at the time, or Liverpool fucked us over for...giggles? I dunno.

I understand that whatever the fees involved, he made it known that he did not want to play 1st division football and subsequently Liverpool were obliged to sell him to Huddersfield for whatever fee could be negotiated. In this instance the player was not prepared to be treated as a commodity.

Liverpool being kicked out by Conor bleeding Coady is certainly fucking bizarre enough to qualify.

As I say, us and Coady have a weird transfer history.

Who's the big name foreign star the Prince has ordered? Is it the next signing? Transfer record broken for a 5th time?

With McBurnie on board there could easily be late additions by next thursday, a goallie and maybe a mystery foreigner to please the prince

If we stopped with mcburnie I think you’d count it as a superb window. We can go into the last week of the window relaxed while the rest of the league panic buy - what a great position to be in.

However, If we could add potentially one more right sided defensive versatile player and a centre mid. It would be just about perfect iMo

Still reckon wilder might fancy lenihan...

When I was in Dublin, a taxi driver was telling me he used to be part of the youth setup for the Irish national team. Young Sammon was one of the most naturally gifted footballers he'd ever seen until he started to grow and apparently lost control of his arms and legs. Personally I just thought he was shite.

If you were a centre half for the opposition and he came out not knowing who he was, you'd be thinking fucking hell. Tall muscular athletic.

Couldnt jump, easily knocked off the ball, and even bullied occasionally. I used to wonder if he was simply too nice.

I suspect he had some kind of palsy

Think RC is on here most days (and probably has notifications enabled for this thread ;) )
Just think that he doesn't sign in though.
