I dont know because I'm not him but perhaps his contact wasn't aware of it??? I wouldn't expect RC to know every single transfer in and out of the club would you?

We'd gone out to 4/1 to sign Jagielka yesterday after he'd been seen at Burnley. Not saying the bookies have detailed insider knowledge, but they're normally pretty much there or thereabouts. I think it was a quick & quiet deal.

It's clear the Jagielka deal went through quick as up till yesterday he was training with Burnley. Not sure what changed or why we weren't in for him earlier but things move fast in football. My guess would be we were looking elsewhere but didn't feel the player(s) were worth what was being quoted by their club so we turned to Jags.

I think you could be right there Roy; hope not though, I'd like to think we were always going to go for Jags but we'll never be certain.

He isn’t a great player mate and never has been.

I’ve seen the greats. He’s many a mile short.

Let’s move on to signing some players who will actually make a difference as soon as possible.

That's harsh mate! Its who do you compare him too though, it can't be with the likes of Currie or Deane because they were both attacking players and they generally always stand out more. Jags did really well for us but to be honest he went up a level at Everton playing at centre half, whereas he was mainly in midfield or right back for us and he wasn't at his peak with us as he was young and fulfilled that at Everton.

I respect your view though Pinchy, but disagree somewhat.

Could be he was 3rd or 4th on Wilders targets but we moved fairly quickly after the news he was training with Burnley. I imagine he had been talked about for a while but only in the last few days was any proper offer discussed.

Aye could be Roy, but then again Jags has been a free agent for weeks now - at least in terms of his declaration that he was going to be a free. Saying all that, it doesn't really matter though because wherever he is or was in the order of preferred players, Wilder still wanted him and that's good enough. I suspect that Wilder wants Jags for his versatility also and the ability to cover midfield also. He could be a really important player next season, even if he doesn't start.

I thought I read somewhere earlier that Jags was only training with Burnley as ‘a favour to someone Dyche knows’. I believe it’s known that Wilder and Dyche get on - could Jags have been training with Burnley yesterday to avoid all the inevitable publicity/speculation as the deal with SUFC was being finalised?

No. The deal was done at the lane, not Turf Moor.

Possibly, or it just happened within a couple hours. Free agents are a little different to a purchase from another club.
Another theory could be that he didn't want to ruin the surprise, or the club went to extra lengths to keep it all under wraps.

Takes a couple of hours to get from Turf Moor to the Lane

Ah yes, it can do, if you take the M65, M66, M62 and M1. However, if you're really smart, like me, you'd take the A646 via Cornholme, towards Todmorden, then Luddendenfoot, Sowerby Bridge, Elland, Huddersfield then A629 to Sheffield, and you'd do it in 1 hour and 52 minutes.

Cracking part of the world.

The deal was done weeks ago 😉

I can believe this too!

I tried to console B56 last week with such thoughts. I asked him to entertain the notion that deals had been done, but just not announced yet.

Anyhow, several posts from me already and I've not even commented yet on whether I think this is a good signing. So I will. Yes, I think it's a very good signing - and I'm really pleased to see the lad back at the lane, finishing his career with the Blades. As to whether he will be a regular starter? I honestly don't know. It doesn't seem that long since he was still England's first choice centre back, so he can't be that far off the pace? However, he is no spring piri-piri chicken. But his experience will serve us well, on and off the pitch.

I've been pleased also to see that most of our fans are delighted he's back. Nothing about him being a "Judas" for leaving us in the first place, nothing about "legs have gone" either. It's been quite refreshing. He is destined for a welcome as warm as that given to the returning jumblies.

O Timballo! 🤩

Pace and Strength for two that you mentioned. He's the same height as Sharp and scored more goals than Sharp in the division last year.

And he's only 22

He gives the answer himself.

Maupay's footballing idol is Zinedine Zidane.[34] He stated that he "can play out wide or as a number 10, but my favoured position is striker. I like to play down the middle and use my pace to get in behind defences" and "I’m used to looking after the ball and holding off defenders"

Quality and only going to get better. McB is the same and they’ll complement each other well. We have to go all in for both.

Gerremin!
