If you get so angry you start to abuse people or get violent give it up for your own sake.

It's not worth it.

I do wonder how many of them realise the types of sentencing judges like to throw at "football hooligans" (I'm sure most don't self identify as that, but if you start throwing fists around at football you'll certainly be sentenced as one!).

I also wonder how many would either instantly lose their job if arrested, or when subsequently handed a football banning order, effectively banning them from a radius around any local football grounds and train stations for several hours before and after a match and perhaps even surrendering your passport at times; one or both of those conditions would put many a career at risk I would have thought? (certainly I'd be out on my ear under those conditions!).

It's a fine line to be fair isn't it? Whilst I'm not verbally abusive, generally I don't clap the players off either if we haven't won.

Exactly what is the best way for a fan to let a player know that they're not putting enough effort in etc.? clap? boo? abuse? wait until they get home and ring football heaven? post on here?

Whilst I wouldn't encourage verbally abusing players, I wouldn't lose any sleep that our pampered overrated players are a bit upset. Maybe they should speak to one of the 100s of players that love this club and still come back to watch us and ask them how they can become a success.

Its not nice but its nothing compared to how football crowds used to be
Not condoning it but if witnessing men getting drunk and acting like twats isnt your cup.of tea then maybe take up crown green bowling or nip down the garden centre on a saturday afternoon

I think that's the problem in a nutshell there - nothing against you personally but read the title of the thread and then read your post again . By taking that attitude in my own personal opinion you condone all the examples of behaviour mentioned on here from just one away game .

No i specifically said im.not condoning it but football is frequented by mostly drunken middle aged men and they do a lot worse than get mad at players and fight amonsgt themselves

The level of abuse directed towards the female lino was vile.

If seeing a woman doing a job at a football match is that much of a novelty that you feel the need to request that she gets her tits out for your stumpy little fucktard mates or enquire as to whether she takes it up the arse then you need to get a fucking life.

We really have got some dick head fans .

Today I saw fans very close to battling with each other

nowt changes does it. "5 years in this shit league" will be the excuse now, but I remember seeing fights among Blades fans on the kop in 1995 cos some were already starting the "Bassett out" chants - we had been in the premier league the season before. Utter dick heads.

I wasn't far from the 'Coutts comment', front row also as it goes and Coutts definitely heard it. It was totally uncalled for in my opinion, how that sort of thing is supposed to help I have no idea!? I wanted to see how he would react during play after this little incident but he was subbed a couple of minutes later, we'll never know!

The dogs abuse the team got at the final whistle was uncalled for also.

Yes it should have been ten times worse.

So, players not good enough, fans behaving like dickheads...sorry state of affairs.

That's really fucking shameful. Something the club ought to be getting into big trouble over.

They won't though. A lot has been done to combat racism, and there's a big drive to do the same with homophobia, but all around the country you can be subjected to the most graphic abuse simply by virtue of being a woman on a football pitch.

And I'm certainly not the politically correct type, I just despise the thought that someone could be made to feel intimidated, bullied or degraded just for being what they are.

I was at Crewe and I was there at the final whistle.
Verbal abuse to the the lines woman, fellow supporters and stewards is wrong and should imo never be condoned. Neither should any abuse towards the players, whether the first on ninetieth minute, when the game is in progress.
However, the booing at the end and the loud and long chant of "what a load of rubbish" was perfectly justified and should have been louder and longer. How else do die hard supporters (and everybody going to Crewe surely fits that category) register their discontent at such an abject, clueless and spineless show?
The players (and Adkins) showed more guts by clapping the fans (sarcastically or not) at the end than they showed for most of the game.
Any 11 chosen randomly from the away end would have fought more for the ball than the 11 picked by Adkins.

The sexist chants towards the lino definitely crossed the line. That's not being PC, it was just fucking embarrassing.
fuckin hell and i thought the milwall fans were a set of moronic knuckle dragging tossers, when will these muppets realise its not the officials that thats at fault (although we get a fair share of poor refs) for where we are its the shower of shite that is masquerading as a team of professional footballers

The worst part of it is that all this abuse was very early in the game, she hadn't even done anything.

I knew the OP would be a bit controversial and attract the "I've paid my money I will say and do what I want " approach and I do get that.. It's a free country .
But people behind me started moaning and abusing after about 15 minutes .. Starting with Hammond .hammond you're a cunt fuck off back to Leicester you're shit was one shout .. Looked at my watch at that point .. 3.16 . Granted he was rubbish today but I just think quite a few of the fans around me went too far today even accounting for it being really poor .
Not to mention a few dinosaurs near us shouting **utterley hilarious** comments aimed at the lady lino . Soooo cringeworthy - its 2015 FFS

Hurling abuse at players / people actually says more about the person hurling the abuse than the intended target. In what other walk of life is it acceptable? If your chicken is served cold in the restaurant do you stand up and shout "fucking wanker piss off home" to the waiter? No, because everyone around you would think you were a twat. Somehow on the terraces it's okay because you've paid to get in.
Can't make them play worse? You want to bet on that? A lot of these players are pretty young and although a few might use it to play better, but I would think most would start to doubt their own abilities - or decide they don't want to make an effort for the tossers abusing them every time they play footy. Either way, I can't see it making them play better overall.
I'm with Silverfox. If you hate it that much you resort to abuse - I mean proper, nasty abuse - then don't go. Don't buy another ticket / season ticket. Where is the pleasure? Where is the sense? It's not as if it's a big surprise, being a Blade, is it?
Have some dignity, is what I say.

I'm amazed that some fans stay awake long enough to hurl any abuse.

and yet there was a female lino at one of our home games recently, can't remember which game, and we were on the kop down near that touchline and, glad to say, didn't hear any abuse towards her whatsoever.

There is definitely a lack of spirit, passion and heart throughout the side.
When was the last time anyone saw a Sheffield United throw his body in to a 20/80 ball that he had no chance of winning
When was the last time you saw a Sheffield United player stand up to an opponent bullying him or dishing it out
When was the last time you saw a Sheffield United go out on the pitch are look like he was prepared to die for the cause.
when was the last time someone got sent off for dishing it out a bit too much? only billy seems to give a shit.

I sometimes wonder what affect this verbal abuse has on the players when they're well within earshot and they're the target of the abuse. It must deal a hammerblow to their confidence. I'd like to think they manage to blank it out but I doubt that's the case somehow.
the poor dears :D
NO sympathy whatsoever. Most of us would die to wear that shirt.

I've not seen it for years, but what we have got is a collection of wimps, who have all got the hipster side parting and beards, and the shit sleeve tattoos, but have we got any men? Have we fuck.
When they had to answer to Warnock - that's when.

I watched Chelsea v Liverpool at the weekend. Willian got the absolute shit kicked out of him. The Liverpool players took it in turns to knock him around. It was obviously deliberate. Our players seem to think they're playing a non contact sport.

We do have some real morons amongst our fan base (I'm sure all clubs do).

But, the players deserve an awful lot of stick. They are well paid professionals with enough ability to be comfortably seeing off the likes of Crewe. They are paid far more on the basis they are better. They are paid to deliver better than what they have been giving. They are currently cheating the fans with their half arsed performances (some of them anyway). The sooner NA can move a large chunk of this squad on, the better.
