Hang on, Big Marts entitled to be wrong, it's a free world.
"Apparently" there's been loads of top teams wanting to sign him...........but none ever did, doesn't that tell you something?
So go on then, tell me why I'm given no respect?
Gary Speed has much more to his job than motivation.
Do you really believe his opinion of someone is based purely on making them feel good? is that why his fellow pro's felt the need to vote for him as their player of the year, simply to motivate him?
Hey I have an idea. Let's get Tongey back and play him in the middle instead of Monty, cos he was always a brilliant player. He could tackle and pass the ball (sideways at least)...oh wait...he couldn't tackle.
Or...we could play Harper in the middle with Williamson because he has so much energy he can run around all day making challenges in every position on the pitch and then turn it into a counter attack...oh wait...that doesn't happen either.
Oh and while I'm talking about Williamson...well what is there to talk about? He's always injured.
But what if we bought that Lee Carsley and played him instead of Monty? He's 36 and has so much energy left in him. He can still run about alllllll game and play much much better than Monty. Oh wait...I've not really seen much of him to have that opinion. I'm pretty sure no one else has either.
People need to realise that many, many teams would love a Monty in their first 11. I'd even think about betting all my savings that if we asked every Championship manager the majority of them would say they'd want Monty in their starting 11.
Oh and one more thing...I bet it was Monty's fault we got relegated.
My mate met Morgan, Monty and Cresswell in town the other night. He was chatting to Morgan for ages and asked Morgan who the players thought the best player at the club was, and Morgan said it was Monty without question.
True story.
For anyone who has ever played football in a midfield role you will be aware of how it is sometimes frustratingly difficult to play against an opposing player who adopts a high energy, headless chicken, willing to run through a brick wall to get the ball type of attitude towards the game. It's often harder to play against players like this than more skilled and controlled players who may back off you and try to predict what you are going to do instead of charging in all guns blazing and harrassing you.
Even though these players may not be the best when they have the ball at their feet they are still worth having in the team because of how they clog the opposition and stop them from playing. This is why Montgomery is important to our team, after all he only takes up 1 position on the pitch. It's no good having a midfield comprised of four ponces who aren't willing to get stuck in when we have lost the ball.
So what if he doesn't always make the right pass? So what if he doesn't score many goals? So what if he often horribly miscontrols the ball? These things are not what he is there for. It's like criticising Kenny for not scoring enough goals.
Bloody hell Grecian I started the thread because I think Monty has assumed an importance he does not warrant.I think it was a legitimate issue to raise. I did not know I had to reply to each contribution. I have not changed my mind as a result of the other opinions...he is still an average squad player and he worries me when he is sat in front of the back four. No-one has referred to my view that he concedes too much round our goalmouth and his rash and clumsy challenges can punish us. Guess no one agrees or no one sees it. I also think the club are happy for the Monty debate to rage as it deflects the shit away from them and do we really accept that if he signs an extension to his contract does it somehow demonstrate the greater aspirations of the club. Not for me no....it will just show our limitations in the transfer market and a lowering of expectations.
No I'm with you on this one. He has been an absolute liability this year. He been directly at fault for several goals and has put in a host of rash challenges giving away 3 penalties. It should have been 4 but the ref got it wrong aginst Swansea. Monty has had a poor season. It's all good and well saying that everyone needs a (poor mans) Dider Deschamps, but Monty has been a liability at times. A defensive midfilder who is there purely to break up opposition attacks could have prevented about another 10 goals this season by doing his job better. Simply not good enough.

hodgy your post is misleading to say the least.. the thing about the great norbert styles and indeed trevor hockey and his natural successor mick speight was that after winning the ball THEY WERE CAPABLE OF MAKING THE SIMPLE FIVE YARD PASS TO THEIR MATE.. not losing it again and chasing it again and winning it again and losing it again like a dog in graves park
So he becomes judge and jury of what is actually 'deserving of that respect'. My you do have a high opinion of your self and to be so opinionated does that deserve respect?I'm far from it and the first to admit it. I respect the views of others when they are , not of brown noses nor sycophants, unfortunately some on here would fall into those two categories.
Unfortunately, this isn't the forum for you then.
I take it that you failed to read the bit about "joining in with respect" when you signed up. It doesn't matter whether that's Foxy or anyone else.

The only shock on this thread is that pinchy hasn't contributed to it.
