I know nothing about this league. So they finished second but have a chance of winning the league?

It was a really enjoyable game and Monty is doing so well, they love him here. The A league is the Aussie professional football league with only 12 teams. The national premier league is the next level split by state mostly consisting of amateur/semi professional teams. There's no promotion between the two unfortunately. Probably because a team could be promoted who don't have the ground infrastructure or attendance to be viable.

A league standard ain't too bad. Good teams could compete with lower end Championship teams or at least solid in League One.

AFL or NFL (rugby league) still dominate here but 20,000 attended last night!

Watched it live this morning and really the stand out moment was this. Absolute magic

The crowd reaction when they see the replay at the same time

The real hero here is the bloke at the start with that tremendous Montyesque cruching slide tackle. The bloke he went through would still be rolling around now if that was in the Premier League.

I was there last night, emigrated to Australia end of last season. Good to see monty going well.

“soccer” seems to be growing in the country, with an implementation of an A League 2 set to come. Adding 26 new professional teams to the game.

Where abouts in Melbourne are you mate? I moved to Ringwood but since moved up north for work

I think you all know where this thread belongs, it’s the same as where Wilder threads end up.

How about a friendly game, Blades v CCM?

Btw I wonder if their fans are aware of our 'touch like a rapist' chant?

May have been your chant.

Definitely not mine.

Not funny, not ironic, one of the most disgraceful chants I have ever heard at a football ground.

So bad that the Leeds fan's would have been proud of it.

Monty should stay in Australia i and my family lived in Sydney great weather and laid back lifestyle. lived in Sydney for 5 years I was 13 when we left. the day after Utd beat Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park. top of the league max points after 3 games. I used to listen to BBC World Service for football commentary and sports reports. 1 am to 4 am Sunday mornings my grandad sent us programs and the green un. we would get them a month later. missed going to Bramall Lane. Jan 1977 we came back I was 17. My dad was homesick and my granddad was poorly. but on reflection, I regret coming back I was 17 so I had to do what I watch was told. now that you can get sky and internet in Australia you can watch tv etc. ok you miss your relatives. but I imagine Monty can afford to visit with his family every year.

I was at that Everton game, one of my first away games and remember Woody smashing the winner in from the edge of the box. Got the Green Un that night and we were top of the 1st division, Pigs were bottom of the 2nd. Happy days 👍

Would Monty swap this beautiful location for Scrubby old Sheffield?

I randomly looked up Monty and central coast mariners earlier this week and and came across this exact picture, and the news that he was preparing for a grand final. From these tiny glimpses, it looks like he has made a brilliant career decision going to Australia. I’m using my imagination a lot, but it seems like a great way to be bringing up a family etc.
If I was one of the senior pros at United coming to the end of a contract, possibly not getting a new one, this looks like a brilliant next step following in Monty’s footsteps ..

Miserable twat. Monty was a great servant for United . Idiotic response.

Great servant for United because no other fucker out there wanted him. His crash, bang wallop 'style' was dire to watch and nothing short of tragic that we had to put up with it for so long.

Wonder if he can control a football now, because he never fucking could when he was 'playing' for us.

2 nil up. Youth based side. If they have any more talents like the lad Newcastle signed Monty should let us know!

5-1 up and almost over. I backed them at 5/2😃

Meanwhile here in Australia minnows Central Coast Mariners (managed by our own Nick Montgomery) have smashed mega bucks Melbourne City (backed by Manchester City) 6-1 in the A-league Grand final. Something to inspire us for next season. Have a look at the golden toilet seat for the worst trophy in sport.

Go on Monty!! Grand champions.

He’s my pick for next manager post-Hecky. Achieved all of this one of the leagues smallest budgets

I know 2 other same threads that I've posted on but 5-1 at that point. Good on them too with young talent they produce.

Just seen other threads on this. Sorry folks. Would delete if I could work out how.

6-1, GERRIM IN!

The fact that past it Scottish premiership players tend to go to that league suggests the level isn't great. If Monty wants to get a job in England he'd likely have to start in league one. Champions league of Asia next for him 👀

Congratulations to CCM good game totally bossed 1st half, under the cosh for a part of the 2nd half hitting them on the break.
Great to see Monty hasnt lost his Yorkshire accent either.

IMO a good manager is a good manager.. if he’s paired with a decent coaching and recruitment team i don’t see why he couldn’t make the step up to a lower PL/championship team
