The A-League has just kicked off and we don't have a thread on Nick Montgomery managing Central Coast Mariners yet... popped this in Blades chat as i think of him as a future Blades manager, and he's well loved here.. and i've seen a few (jokingly/seriously) predict he will come back one day

And it doesn't look too bad for them at the moment, CCM are currently standing at 5th with 1-2 games in hand on those above. Early days of course, but win those and they'd be top of the league

I’m sure Monty would make a half decent manager over here he’s got a decent amount of experience behind him. Thing is quality of life wise I’m not sure he’d swap life down under to move back here especially with a young family.

Even more impressive… CCM have the lowest value squad on Transfermarkt by a fair whack, will be very interesting to see how it goes for Monty there this season!

There were articles last spring about Man Utd buying CCM, and relocating them to Sydney. Not seen anything on the subject since, but I think that would affect their small budget running of the club. Hopefully, for Nick, he wouldn’t lose his role.

I would be amazed if they did this given that they have just put another team just South of Sydney.

Yeah CCM seem to have a low budget play them young set up. I guess with no relegation it's not a huge gamble.

And won the league twice as well as competed in their champions league on 5 occasions too. Pretty good going imo

If anyone fancies some morning footy, Central Coast are playing Melbourne in todays Aussie cup final. 09:00am KO. Come On Monty!

Watching the final on Hesgoal (cancelled our BT contract a while back).

The fans are singing the Allez Allez song and Monty looks uncomfortable in a blazer.

Monty watch day 100 and something…

CCM are doing pretty good. Won 5-0 against Wellington Phoenix this weekend.

8th in a tight pack, they have games in hand on most teams above them

It would be some achievement if Monty could make the top 6 playoffs, especially with a relatively poor squad

Or even better, top 3 for the AFC Champions League

(in A League 1st place gets the title of ‘Premier’, and theres a playoff and subsquent grand final game to crown champion)

Monty is doing a great job with the Mariners. They don't seem to have the budget of the so called big hitters in the league but do well patiently building with what they have.
The league is a VERY poor standard though. When you consider that Andy Keogh was considered a Superstar along with Adam le Fondre who still shone in his twilight years. People like Allessandro Del Piero came over here to keep playing "exhibition" football when they could/should have retired.
Other teams (like my "local" team Perth Glory - Still refuse to pay the high prices to go to a game) have a much larger budget and try to bring in some bigger reputation players as with Daniel Sturridge who absolutely BOMBED at Perth Glory and never regained his fitness (pretty much like the last 7/8 seasons.

They do seem to be trying to improve and develop the game over here and there are/will be one or two players that could forge a career over in the UK but it has a long way to go.

Monty has Central Coast Mariners into the A League Grand Final against Melbourne City after beating Adelaide Utd 4-1 on aggregate. First ever sell out crowd today for CCM as well.

Amazing!! Great to see Monty doing so well... wonder if it's worth a thread merge on the Monty Watch thread Foxy / Linz ??

Blades related play off game in Oz yesterday Central Coast Mariners beat Adelaide United 2-1. Mariners head coach Monty and Adelaide head coach Carl Veart. Monty doing quite well.
^^ Monty is in the Grand Final!

CCM vs Melbourne City... Go on Monty!

Would love to see this bloke manage us one day
