That's even more depressing than the League 1 ground guide (part 3) I've just read on the official site.

Which other wonders from the past are we also going to encounter? I've seen barely any League 1 football for several years - this division could be full of surprises. Is Kabba still around?

Yes, but at Barnet a division below - give it 12 months

All gone rather quiet on this.

Do we know whether these 3 and Evans have gone on the Malta trip?

Early prediction - N'Zogbia to Villa...Quinn to Wigan...Wigan to Championship

LUFC Sheffield United not interested in swap deal

According to reports in the Sheffield Star, Sheffield United will not consider a swap deal with Leeds for midfielder Nick Montgomery.

Leeds have long been linked with a move for the Blades midfielder with Montgomery turning down the chance to join the club last summer.

Leeds striker Billy Paynter has been rumoured as the player involved in the swap deal although Leeds boss Simon Grayson strongly denied this.

Sheffield United are now only considering a straight cash deal with other clubs interested in his services.

Fellow championship side Cardiff City are also in the hunt as his former boss Neil Warnock, who is now in charge of Premier League Queens Park Rangers.

Still looks like Monty maybe on his way.

utd only looking for a straight cash deal then.
bad news.£4.87p will get us fuck all.

Rather than just let him walk away. Another we bought, spent most of his time at the lane injured and we are allowing him to walk away.

You've answered your own question there fella. We'll get cack all for him because he's appeared cack all times.

I'd have preferred to keep him mind, but no doubt his wages are ridiculous too.

I could see one of the 3 staying. Part of me thinks it may be Monty but more likely Willo as the other 2 would bring in more money. We all have our own opinions of Monty and Quinn but they have both been heavily linked to other clubs so managers must see something there.

They're both decent players in my opinion, it's just that as with all our players, we've managed to pay them 3 times their worth.

N'Zog bid accepted.
Aston Villa's latest bid for Charles N'Zogbia has been accepted so are we to beleive that SQuinny will be on his bike?

When this was originally posted I thought it meant the week after it was posted. It appears that it's any week within the next 10 years.

Monty a Leeds player by the end of the week according to rumours. Should free up a wage for McDonald you'd have thought.

Is there any strength to that rumour? I've got my fingers crossed (which isn't to take anything away from the effort Monty has put in over the past ten years)

He's been on Grayson's wanted list since January but it seems as though we couldn't come to an agreement recently, something to do with them wanting to do a swap deal and we wanted straight cash. It looks like they switched targets to a couple of other players but those deals have fallen through and Monty is back in the picture. The ITK'ers are barking on BM that it's just a matter of dotting the i's although, as ever, personal terms are never straight forward.

It's a measure of our previous stupidity that Leeds United are struggling to agree terms with Nick Montgomery. You could weep.

True, Blackwell was almost doing Robsonesque damage that summer. Does it also show what really drives footballers today, and not just money grabbing foreign "stars"? A player, much praised for his loyalty and honest hard work, is presented with the chance of helping us out while securing a contract at his boyhood club - a dream move you'd have thought - but choses to milk what he can.

Or am I being too harsh?

I think the likes of Nick Montgomery and Chris Morgan, whilst on plenty of money (and are by no means the old school) are part of a sub breed on their way out that aren't out for every bit they can squeeze.

Also, people who supposedly know shouldn't be taken as gospel truth, as they are often wide of the mark even when they eventually end up at the correct final outcome :)

That may well be true mate, but can you explain how they are different? My guess is that Blackwell, besides rating them, was so obsessed about not losing them to Warnock's QPR, that he told Birch to make every effort to make them sign new deals for us. Coupled with Quinn and Cresswell's new deals and Simonsen signing, this left very little for further signings and we went into the season with a squad lacking in many departments.

I guess a lot of the hesitation to sign for Leeds may be the result of the agent working hard to get Monty the best deal possible, maybe this can excuse Nick personally somewhat?

I'm not convinced there's an old or a new breed. I think greed has driven most people, most of the time. I'm amazed how many people are driven by money above all else, and how extreme wealth doesn't seem to alter this. But I don't think it's new.

As such, I can't blame our mediocre millionaires too much, more the complete stupidity that ran throughout the club that allowed such mediocrity to earn towards £1M per year. Sadly, we'll be paying the price for a good few years to come.

Hate to disappoint everyone but the "rumours" are that Leeds MIGHT consider making a bid for Monty or they MIGHT bid for someone else. No contact between the clubs, just pure conjecture as usual. The ITKers really must try harder

It's that something you're ITK about?

ITK'ers stirring shit as usual.

Anyway, Sun reports this morning that a bid of 1.2million has been made by Leeds for both Quinn and Monty. Think that's on the low side if true, but would be willing to take it to reduce wage bill and get players in.

The latest is that it may end up being a loan move.

A loan with a view to a permanent transfer with Leeds picking up his wages and paying a loan fee would work.

However, knowing United we'll insist on paying them and Monty for the privilege!

Now that would be a great deal if we could pull it off ! By the way, I will drive him up there to sign Monty's sense of direction has never been the best judging on his passing and shooting!!

I'd prefer it to be Montgomery and Williamson TBH. We'll get more out of Quinn than Willo.

Also... Brace yourselves

Doyle sounds like he's been involved A LOT in pre-season. Creating chances, in on the action, i've heard nothing but good reports. He says he wants to be box-to-box and is frustrated with the "Holding" role he's played so far. Maybe Adams brought him in but failed to see the hidden gem inside. Wilson is GOD if Doyle turns out to be good.

8 goals this season from him! You heard it here first

Doyle did seem to be the only midfielder willing to hit a shot with any venom from outside the box on the odd occassion he got forward last season, so I can see him managing 5+ this season if he's allowed to go box-to-box.

The Monty & Quinn move would be ok for me too if it happens. Anything close to £1m and their wages off of our shoulders would be a massive bonus. Monty is way too much of a liability when tackling around our area and Quinn has always appeared to be a Tongue Lite kind of performer. Good in spells, but never seemed to have the strength of shot or cross to truly replace Tongue in our line-up. Leeds are dreaming if they think a midfield 3 with Brown is going to do anything for them and we should be snatching their hands off at any offer!

You've not included the part where he helped to turn an effective midfield performance into an ineffective one against Blackpool and gave the ball away regularly and played the opposition into dangerous positions numerous times in the other pre-season appearances he made.

He has had a few shots and the odd pass though, I'll give him that.

Based upon pre-season my midfield would be:

Tonne Quinn Willo Flynn/Oates

If Willo reverts to not being arsed to chase/make tackles when not in possession (which he has a couple of times already) then swap him for Monty/McDonald (if we sign him).

Doyle did seem to be the only midfielder willing to hit a shot with any venom from outside the box on the odd occassion he got forward last season, so I can see him managing 5+ this season if he's allowed to go box-to-box.

If Tonne keeps it up and gets a chance, he'll be the goalscoring midfielder we need.
