Donaldson is the kind of player we would have signed in the old days. Cheap and old

Vastly underwhelming window.
Agree-he might have been a decent buy 4 years ago. Now he will just be another massive drain on the wages bill for 2 years when he will be almost 36 !!
And we kept Hanson ?

Sorry this window for me 3.5 /10 rubbish why can't we spend some of the money we got Walker answers maguire? Poor poor poor poor just like the two clowns that own my club

I think we could have done better this transfer window but the above spoilt child attitude is annoying.

6TH in the Championship........good additions imo and 4 months to the Jan window where we can again strengthen if necessary. Well done United. Not fallen into the financial minefield that some on here are craving.
"Spend millions" they say.....get fucked i say!
Are these people expecting promotion again? Get real and let Chris and Alan keep adding the bricks.

Spot on. We could have offered silly money and got Cole and that would have appeased certain people saying that makes us 'ambitious'. Much better IMO that we haven't paid over the odds for someone who clearly isn't worth it.

We are probably now also small fry in terms of wages in this division which is a big factor in this day and age, again, are we better off with players who want to come rather than those looking for a wage. It's a thin line but I think the club are getting it right at the moment. January will be more interesting I think.

Very disappointing, I think we can put to bed the "think Liverpool" , "major investment will kick in when we reach the championship" , "when a big club comes knocking" quotes coming out of the boardroom and file them under bullshit.
The only real improvements look to be Stearman, Baldock and Stevens. Heniggen and the lad from Spuds look like back up and development players, a keeper on loan as cover, Lundstom looks poor and a Hartlepool youngster adds to midfield the only real shining light being we haven't sold Brooks. Up front we look very poor we can't keep relying on Billy to score every goal. We had a great opportunity to build on a good start to the season but it looks now like 5th in the league will be the high water mark it could easily turn into a long hard slog of a season with no prospects of it getting any better the season after, not with these owners.
Before anyone starts we don't have to go out and spend mega millions a modest amount would have improved us and you would have thought that possible in light of us getting a windfall in sell on fees. Let's hope we have no more injuries or this penny pinching could well come back to bite us.

I know the older you get the years seem to go quicker but...... he's signed a 12 month contract, not two years.. he'll be 34 at the end of the contract..

I would have liked to see us go for someone like Ross McCormack on loan.

He's still at Villa and out of favour. A decent loan fee but very proven and would take the burden from Billy and show intent.

That said, 1 in 3 for Donaldson, who I've always seen as useful is an experienced support for Sharp. Clarke has looked decent at home and Donaldson has been doing what he has one level up. Someone who can hold the ball up like Hanson but can also score and can run with the ball is not the worst addition. Takes the pressure off Evans to get match fit toi soon.

I know someone who has worked backroom staff for a club he's played at. I wouldn't touch him with a bargepole.

I agree to some degree but I think we have to push the boat out a little more than we have done. I applaud the "not paying over the odds" mantra but it's fair to say we have missed out on targets that wouldn't have put the club in any sort of long term danger but could have made a big difference.

I think we need a slight re-think. I'm not expecting us to pay the ridiculous £5m quoted for Lenihan but I think the £750,000 or whatever Southend wanted for Leanord shouldn't have put an end to the deal. You can get value for money as we have brilliantly in the past 12 months but the higher you go, the more outrageous the prices. I feel we are a bit out of touch in what clubs expect for their players and even what we expect for ours

Or their valuation was more than Wilder would pay?

The Leonard/Holmes circus was, I believe, carried on a lot longer on here than it did down at the club.

Now I don't want to be too negative because I think overall the window has been decent enough.

We have addressed some of the gaps in our squad and improved the overall composition of the side...

- Decent keeper in blackman
- Stevens and baldock provide options at fullback and genuine competition
- Stearman and CCV I think more than improve the defence.
- Cheap young body's in thomas, this guy from Motherwell and lundstram - with potential to improve
- ched a cheap gamble

BUT given the bids we've made we must have left about £3m still in transfer kitty - we've failed to spend this and make a statement that we are serious about competing in this league.

And we've failed to get most of the top targets we've been in for even attainable ones like Leonard. And been knocked back for most of our top targets Holmes, Leonard, lenihen, Coady (and back up plans like cole and Egan)

To me that's a 6.5/10 window rather than an 8or9 /10. Which is a shame because we are on the cusp of something special that only needed tweaking imo.
You forgot Clayton Donaldson btw. Does that make it a 7?

I beg your pardon! We're FIFTH man FIFTH!

Stop putting us darn Fred lad. ;)

Not only have we stuck by our principles this window, we've been very public about it as well.

We now undoubtedly have the reputation that we don't get pissed about in transfers. This may serve us very well in the next and future windows, when clubs and agents will know for certain that we won't capitulate at the last minute, and so won't hold out in that hope.

Tufty is earning respect right across the industry as he takes us forward.

The Magic is Back

I'm not sure if I'm the only one but, the idea of buying our way out of this league, by gambling millions on big names, who play purely for their own personal financial interests and have no emotional investment in the club, is considerably less appealing than the way we are currently going about it.

I am confident that with Wilder in charge, Sheffield United will be promoted from the Championship within three years. When we go up, I want to see scenes like last year, where fans and players alike are out celebrating together. Players that fulfil all of Wilders desired personality traits, who will battle and die for the club, not some tattooed poser from London on forty grand a week, who'll be back down the M1 the minute the final whistle blows.

I love watching United humbling teams that have cost £40 million plus. Derby, for all their talent, were chasing shadows last week. United are the hardest working team in the Championship and will more than hold their own and a large part of that, is down to the fact that a lot of opposition teams are full of big earners with big reputations, but no bollocks. I have total trust in Wilders 'character before reputation' recruitment policy, I know we'll succeed and more importantly the club will have a sound financial base for the benefit of many future generations, when there will very possibly,be only one professional team in Sheffield ;)

The thing I find frustrating is I think the only difference between a team that finishes 6th and 22nd will be a couple of half decent players at least one of whom chips in with a few goals. Not much difference between top and bottom in my view.

So if we'd brought in Sinclair, the West Ham lad and Cole by agreeing to the last minute piss taking demands, you'd be happy? That'd make us ambitious?

That'd make us mugs. Donaldson is a proven Championship striker who scores goals, the others are anything but and would have been pretty high risk.

Or their valuation was more than Wilder would pay?

The Leonard/Holmes circus was, I believe, carried on a lot longer on here than it did down at the club.

A shite Circus it was too, no popcorn, candy floss or anything. And I'm sure the "burger" I had was running in the 3.30 at Kempton the other day.

Makes sense to me , let the lads who served us so well last season show how they cope in this division, add a few to cover for injuries, and once you've identified where the weak links are THEN splash the cash in January.

The lads seem to be holding their own so far and if ain't broke ......

Yeh agree BladeinLeeds,

2: Maybe the club think the market is stupid at the moment and transfer fees will reduce to normal levels in the January transfer window. Also by January18 Wilder will have a much better idea if where our strengths and weaknesses lie. Maybe the club are deliberately holding money back so we have a few million to spend in January18.

I think the January transfer window is more known for its over-inflated prices than the summer one generally, so we may have a better understanding of what we need to bring in, but doubt we'll be getting bargains in January.

see us at Sheffield United i would the board have given wilder funds more than we think he has, but he's chosen not to spend it on just anyone because its there.

although can I apologise for comments, I struggled to understand it nevermind others. it seems I started a few rambling sentence then gave up & then went down a different path. I think I meant that board have given him funds hes chose not to be spend it because its there
