Misjudgement

Its like a car boot sale where if you wait until everyone is packing up you might get a bargain or you might get nowt, its what you do when you don't care either way.
But aren't Pulis, Bruce and Lampost shopping at the same boot sale?

Quality strikers are like rocking horse shit, and every team wants them for obvious reasons - that’s why it’s difficult to land them. I’d sure Tufty knows we’re short up top and they’ll be pulling out the stops. Unless we’re going back to the Warnock days and any old muck and nettles donkey or crap speed freak will do ?

Wilder leaving it so late to sign a striker is a serious misjudgment , we all knew that we needed a striker before a centre half , so why not concentrate his efforts and money before signing the likes of Egan. I’m not happy

Do you think he's been sat round doing fuck all?

Not a misjudgement. I believe if CW could've signed his targets the day the window opened, he would've done. He's always maintained he likes to get his business done early, but when there are at least 4 parties involved, (Club, players club, player, agent) add that there may be a chain involved and invariably it's a problem. It's not in his hands unfortunately. Even the clubs with loads of money are having difficulty getting their targets in.

Wasn’t a problem for Bournemouth getting their target.

Sorry Brentford, yes I do want to sign Egan but I've been told I've got to get a striker in first. That might take me a bit longer, can you just put him on one side for me please? I'll get back to you nearer to the end of the window, honest.

Fulham.
Last
Season when they played us first time were miles behind us.
They started to climb the table and then brought in Mitrovich who helped them finish the job.
So while I’m pretty sure Wilder would have wanted his players all signed and sealed by July I don’t think he will panic and write the season off just because that elusive striker or two didn’t arrive by the end of August.

Chill your beans....for now.

Because although I’m pretty laid back now, then it will be imperative we get the player in by next week. We don’t have the depth Fulham had to last til January to finish the promotion side off. It will be mid a table season and little to play for.

I’m very concerned rather than unhappy.

Barring a signing out of the blue it doesn’t look like we’ll end up with a new striker. Hogan seems the only choice and he isn’t ready for the first team. Just got to hope the trio we’ve got stay fit and can keep putting the shifts in. Will be a long 4 months with just the 3.

Perhaps targeting ‘proven’ strikers at bargain prices hasn’t worked, I don’t know.

We will definitley 1000% sign a striker before the deadline

I’m sure he could have got a half decent striker in fairly quickly
But I suspect Wilder doesn’t want a half decent striker, suspect he’s been given the funds to go after a seriously good striker.

The problem with seriously good strikers is that they usually have a few options.

In some ways the delay proves that he’s a target worth waiting for.
Agreed though that the longer we leave it, then the higher the risk of ending up with nothing.

Just seen the thread above, apparently there’s nothing to worry about, we’re 1000% getting a new striker. Hope he’s right.

There have been some good signings today and I worry that our focus may be too narrow but I guess all we can do is wait and see.

We could let the window shut before we start chucking our toys out the pram.

Chill your beans....for now.

Let the window shut? Chill?

I'm in full meltdown about Wilders abject failures and the clubs shortcomings already. If we don't have the 2-3 additional signings line up on Satdi I expect no less than public floggings int car park with them failing our rise to European football lashed to Derek Dooley's (God bless him) statue.

And that's not sarcasm

Not happy? Seriously? We’ve just signed one of the best midfielders in the division... and broke our transfer record.

Also... realistically... who is it you think we should have gone and signed that we haven’t?

Please say Wells.
Ah yes. We’ve broke our transfer record. Hallelujah.

And for the record Wells would’ve complimented what we have very well. Won promotion and got a 10mil transfer to Burnley only last season.

If you watch the videos by Blades Analytics you might not be so sure that Wells would be so complimentary!

I'm more bemused at why Norrington-Davies hasn't replaced Stevens.

Here you go, perfect reason right here. Give the full video a watch as it’s well worth it but the piece on Enda between 14.50 and 16.00 is what your looking for:

The short version is Enda created the 2nd most expected assists (goal scoring opportunities that either were or weren’t taken by strikers) just behind Duffy and around the same as fleck. This stat highlights perfectly that maybe the issue was in a different area to the performance of Enda last season. That and other teams have sussed out our predominant left flank attack’s with JOC overlapping and have focused on shutting it down, a la the end of last season.

I also personally think Enda puts a cracking ‘early ball in’ I.e. crossing just before the 18 yard box. Seems to have a worse delivery at the byine line but maybe he’s been told to get there and beat his man, this one is just a personal opinion though.

Hope so pal, but I’ll still be worried until we do because that’s what I’m like. I do believe we are trying hard, but it’s in the hands of the gods !

So we can rule out:

Waghorn
Marriott
Joao
Wells
Hamed (not that we were linked)
Bradshaw
Gallagher
Ulloa
Roofe
Brereton
Armstrong
Blackman

Makes you wonder who is left.

Hogan, too injury prone?
Nugent, too old?
Abraham, too pricey, too much conpetition?

Anyone else we’be been linked with?

Not the time to panic but the pool is getting smaller.
