I’m worried we are losing our identity!
We are what we are…… and always have been for that matter……never ‘Fancy Dan’ world beaters, not too bad footballers, always give 100% blood, sweat, tears and all that, but proper BLADES, someone we could all relate too and cheer on…..But on Saturday, Bristol smashed into every 1st and 2nd tackle. They just were hungrier wanted it more all over the pitch…..and celebrated it too. We had absolutely no response.
Tonight really scared me though. We were awful let’s accept it. I’m lost for words. We really were that bad weren’t we?
Serious suggestions & support needed here please before I call it a night !

Why do we always have to be the team of a cloggers and hoofers who battle hard and grind out results? Why can't we change that? We didn't when Wilder first arrived and we played with the centre backs bombing up the wings. The football was exciting and we were the talk of League One, then the talk of the Championship, then the talk of the Premier League. After that we reverted to type, replaced Wilder with an uninspiring Hecky who played shit, boring, battling football then replaced him with an inferior Wilder who was a shadow of his former self.

I'm sick of the old and all for the new.

Football has moved on and Sheffield United hasn't. The new owners weren't kidding when they said modernising the club in every department would be a lengthy process requiring patience. Good luck to them changing the mindset of some of our fans who are rooted firmly in the past and can't cope with the idea of change, or want and demand immediate change and success.

Yes if you sack the best manager we’ve had recent years and take that connection away on a whim you’ll lose your identity
Wilder himself broke some of the connection. The fans were divided by the time he left due to his stubborn tactics and selections and his antics on and off the pitch.

When they said they would modernise the club, did they include the team in that?

If so, get the fk on with it……… please

Exactly, they also forget if we don't modernise more we will get left behind. We can't just "battle" our way and try to hang on the in the Premier League.

Agreed Wilder MK1 once he got started was a brilliant watch although realistically a club boy like Wilder coaching a club boy like Billy helped too. However it was a refreshing change. Personally Hecky although not my first choice made sense as he was at the club already and didn’t cost us any extra, it’s not helped that at that point he hadn’t ventured out of Yorkshire with coaching but understood the Wilder system. It also made sense to keep him with the club on the up again and although not the prettiest we did enough to stabilise the club to get the Promotion. Personally I was against Wilder MK2 appointment but that aside he had one job to do and didn’t manage it. I think the “unfashionable” tag doesn’t help with our location when you look at the Premier League with Brighton, Brentford, Bournemouth and Fulham they are very bland clubs but they have either money/a model of recruitment and stability. They don’t get by because of even an average home fan base

The biggest issue is a sizeable proportion of the fan base.

Stuck in their ways, scared of change, distrusting of foreign coaches and owners.

Nobody has been impressed with the last two performances and everyone knows we need strengthening.

However, many of us knew exactly the reaction there would be if we didn't get off to a flyer.

Too many won't admit it but they've never had any intention of giving Selles a chance. He had to hit the ground running at a fair lick to stand a chance with too many.

If people had an ounce of common sense, they'd be able to take a step back and realise there's no remote rationale why this club should only have a modicum of success with the approach you mention.

There's only one constant across the decades and that's an impatient antiquated parochial fan base.

There's absolutely no sensible reason why a different style and approach shouldnt succeed at this club if more fans want it to and show a bit more patience.

The patience or impatience of the fans makes absolutely zero difference to whether a) the team is any good and b) the club is being run effectively. So blaming the fans is a bit odd.
I agree it’s too early to criticise performances too heavily … but what most people can see clearly and are rightly criticising is that we have hugely weakened the team defensively and appear no nearer to bringing the required replacements. Pointing that out is nothing to do with whether we’re giving Selles a chance … it’s basically a plea to the club to recruit and strengthen before it’s too late.
It doesn’t matter who is the manager if the window closes and we haven’t brought in quality defenders … we’ll be in a relegation scrap.

Exactly this and put far better than I could.
For me the post of the year.

The headless after these two performances are unbelievable.

Selles wants to play a certain style of play. We almost have the team to do that. We just need some CBs. The rest of the team now has the physical capabilities and technically ability to play the new style.

What selles can't control is certain players making mistakes like you would see on concord park on a Sunday morning. So far we have conceded 6 goals.

20 yard free kick
Very well taken goal from a tight angle
Mistake leading to goal
Mistake leading to goal and deflected shot
Mistake leading to goal
Deflected shot going through three sets of legs

With better CBs (ones who want to be here as Robbo currently looks like a bully who's ready to quit school) the team will be absolutely fine.

We will create and score more chances this season than the last promotion season under hecky imo.

We have changed, people fear change and lash out in their defense mode which is absolutely fine. However put on your logical heads and see that this will get better with a few additions which will arrive over the next 15 days.

As we haven’t won a major trophy in 100 years maybe it’s time to find a new identity?

Agreed.

For example.
The spectre of CW and PH hangs over the club.

Their fingerprints and methods all over the place. From the youngest kids teams through to the first team.

They've been involved for the best part of ten years.

It won't be easy to change things. And some shouldn't be changed at all.

Will Selles be given time and backing?
