Minutes Applause on Sunday

I think the Blade in that article is a member on here. I'll leave him to announce himself if he wants to, but why the hell not? We're Blades, ad Blades are classy like that.

I sort of bumped into the deceased a good few years ago, through his involvement in junior football in Handsworth.

I agree with the sentiment also, but could I also put forward the need for a minutes applause on the players return from halftime, just because I think they deserve it!! Just applause that's for everything they've done this season!!

I thought he would be which is why I thought there would already be a post.

His Brother definitely posts on here regularly - I remember him telling the horrible story of the Burnley game. Not sure if the blade in the article posts as well though - he may do.

We should definitely do this.

I would gladly join in but ask the question where will this new fad end, loads of ex players and fans die every year, do we have a minutes applause for everyone. We have them for terrorist victims and any poor soul that is tragically killed who have no connection with the club, where do you draw the line.?

Well if there is one thing we can all agree on is that Blades fans transcend tribal loyalties when it comes to support for people dying in tragic circumstances like this lad. We always have done and always will do no matter what the other lot do although to be fair they do things like this as well - its a Sheffield thing isnt it !

I see what you are saying, and agree up to a point. But (in my humble opinion anyway) many of us will have played weekend football at some point. This guy is known by many who have played or had connections with local football. For me, it isn't about the team anyone supports. It is about the loss of someone, like many people in the game, who give so much to the game we love, and get little in return.

To me, a bit of applause is a way of saying thank you for that.

I don't really understand the problem. It's a minute.

I don't have a problem with people doing it, why would anyone? I just don't like it being during the match personally, why not have a minute's silence/applause before the match?
Well there seems to be a general reluctance to clap or make any kind of noise during the game so you've got a good point.

Appreciate the point you're trying to make but I can't see why acknowledging anyone's passing that might have even the smallest of relevance is a problem.

It's 1 minute to salute someone who has gone forever and will in most cases be sadly missed by some people at least.

I've no problem whatsoever with the club or fans acknowledging anyone with a link to the club, local community, or even nationally such as what happened at Westminster.

Our regular Sunday evening football pub chat with mates discussed the current obsession with social media death applause tributes.
One of my mates said the unthinkable,'' I am getting sick of all these faux social media induced sympathy bollocks for every tom dick and harry''.
Funnily enough we all agreed, it is just getting ridiculous. We all die and can be remembered by out friends with private grief, but asking others to join in for someone who most have never heard of in some tear induced bollocks is just getting ridiculous.
It isn't like we don't know that we are all going to die.

Last week on BBC News, we had an animal sanctuary releasing hedgehogs back into the wild .....cue the obligatory bunch of women roaring their eyes out.

Can we have a minutes applause for the hedgehogs released on the 22nd April 2017 in remembrance to those poor women suffering the loss of their poor hedgehogs.
Should it be the 4th minute for April, the 17th minute for the year and the 22nd minute for the day?

No disrespect to those that knew the deceased but where does this asininity end?

Some things are more important than football rivalry, even one as fierce as ours. First and foremost this lad was a Sheffielder and by all accounts an absolute diamond. I hope the applause rings out loudly.

Blades classy as ever. I'm sure his family will love and remember the blades fans gesture to their loved one.

Same here - not into the trend of tributes during games.

In saying that, more than happy to join in on this one.

58th minute they want it, I hope it happens it would be great for the sheffield footballing comunity to band together. If the applause gets going people will naturally join in.

yes Nigel was an owl , he was committed to junior football and tireless with helping youngsters
he deserves the respect as hes a normal joe , followed his club , poor choice that it was , and helped in the community, but was always up for good natured banter

a nice guy gone to soon

if there is a heaven hes the sort thatll be running a line at a junior s game up there
