I completely accept I will likely be on my own island with this one

Hodges, fuckin fat Pat Butcher, lazy arsed git, IMO of course, used to just really wind me up, maybe I expected too much from him but I just aaarrrggghhh

I nearly put him down for worst captain ever just Incase he had been one for some point in a game but I couldn’t remember

he is my irrational hatred go to I guess

James Harper - end of thread. Came from a great Reading team and was useless. Stood in the middle waving his arms around and did fook all!

One of my all time most disliked Blades players.

Came in looking for James harper, leaving satisfied.

Last seen at Heathrow runway 1 waving his arms around like a twat.

Was chuffed to bits when we first signed him anall, thought he was going to be decent

Agreed everyone thought we would be getting a quality player, never seen anyone else in a Blades shirt be so ineffective and wave their arms around as much as him he was absolutely awful.

Couldn't remember the arm waving Pratt’s name. What a waste of space (and money). Agree with Brian Howard as well - bigger up to be the saviour but played like an uncooked potato. Most of the Adkins buys would be included (surprised Woodford has not been named and shamed) as the playing style was appalling.
PS Personally I feel Doyle was committed to the cause and never shirked a tackle.

Doesn't mean they weren't decent players, but for whatever reasons, you never really appreciated them?

I raise you...

Ray Lewington.

For all his tireless running around, he never seemed to do owt. I was once asked by an ex-Blades player at the time, what I thought of Lewington. And I gave my opinion, "for all his tireless running around he never seems to do owt". And he responded, "that's what I've heard as well. He'll cover every blade of grass for you, but there's no end product with him".

Ray only stayed with us for one season. He joined us from Fulham in 1985 and went back to them in 1986. He made 36 appearances for us and scored 0 goals. But he did run around a lot, I'll give him that.

In some ways, I'm surprised I even remember him at all. It is only probably because he stood out for being so ineffective, that I do. But when we played Palace this season I recognised him immediately, stood next to Roy Hodgson in the dugouts. That deep scowling face staring right into our front living room it was. I immediately pointed at the telly and shouted, "Bloody hell! It's Ray Lewington!". Which brought a puzzled look from my kids. "He used to play for us!". And the kids said, "was he any good Dad?" - and I said, "no".

But maybe you have a different opinion? Or maybe you can think of worse examples than this? 🤔
That volley in the cup V Derby in the FA Cup he had disallowed though? Scandalous.

I never seems to get Graham Stuart. Came in on a big fee, never seemed do anything other than being neat and tidy. Was more disappointed when we moved on David Holdsworth when they both moved on the same day.

Didn’t get what all the fuss was about with Don Hutchison either

I don't recall Holdsworth leaving until the end of that season.

Doyle - for some reason he’s held in high regard by some fans despite never actually putting a tackle in during his time with us and being part of the reason we spent so long in League 1. He was good at directing traffic though, I’ll give him that.

Oooo! I can’t wait for cal the blade to see this comment 🎣

p.s. Derek, edit your post and add a comment praising Monty. Cal is odds on for a lifetime ban with his reply 😂

Agree, the fact that him and Collins were in the starting 11 as long as they were is depressing. They may have tried their best but fuck me their best is amongst some of the worse football I have ever seen the blades play.

100% in agreement. total waste of space. All he ever did was wave his arms around. ME at 60 could have done that! And id have done it with more conviction.

Who would you rather have in your team, Monty or Doyle? Monty everytime for me personally.

I know what you mean. he was brilliant when we had him on loan but never hit those heights again on a consistent basis. Did some great things but far too inconsistent and I always felt he was lazy. Plus he became fairly injury prone.

Yep, totally accept when it comes to things he did on pitch he won’t get near the worst but for me that laziness and 1 decent game followed by several meh ones drove me crazy ha ha

Trouble was it was our play he broke up.

Funny line, but harsh metal! I must state I like Doyle also and Neil Collins and many didn't like them either! I've had endless debates on the merits of those two, but done that and not going there either. On the other hand, I liked David Cotterill and Franz Carr who were skillful but inconsistent as opposed to maximum effort but not enough quality, which is what Doyle and Collins were accused of.

David White was one I never really took to, despite him getting a decent number of goals and assists.

Michael Tonge. Never understood the fuss and thought he was wildly inconsistent and only played for 10-15mins when he fancied it, yet fans seemed to think he was the second coming of Whitehouse.
Plus he ran like his knee caps had been put on backwards.

Can't agree with this. I agree that his performances dropped towards the end of his time with us (we tried to make him into a defensive central midfielder and it just didn't suit him as well) but his first season, when we played him as an out and out winger, he was absolutely superb!

He was so exciting to watch and used to glide past 4 or 5 players like they weren't even there. I'd go so far as to say his debut season was one of the best I've ever seen from a youngster whilst watching the Blades (maybe alongside Kyle Naughton, Brooks & Maguire). He did love a full on swallow dive whenever he was anywhere near the penalty area though.
