Thoughts and prayers for anyone brave enough to visit the cauldron that is The Riverside today. As some of you may be aware from Roy’s posts, Galatasary nicked their “Welcome to Hell” schtick from the ferocious Teeside roar. Their support is the best in football and noted by all and sundry, but particularly Bob Mortimer, Juninho and Captain Cooks great great grandson.

When Pigbag plays on the PA there’s a high risk that you will involuntarily shit yourself, such is the fervour they hum and clap along. They may even wave flags around. Hold onto your seats lads and lasses.

UTB

I’m travelling up really not knowing what to expect. We were well beaten up there in a very disappointing display last season. Certainly hope for better!

Will Norwood start after his 90 mins the other night ?? If not, who ??

Think he’ll start with same line up as Millwall, except Brewster. Will it be Jebbo or start Khadra or McAtee??

Let’s get after them from the off and get an early goal. Confidence builder for us and denter for Boro. Do this I can see a win. Slow start and opposite happens I see a draw or narrow defeat!

I just can't muster the will to go to that place again

Shit journey, shit place, never ever win....

Khadra definitely won't start because he wasn't at least 9/10 at West Brom, so it's the bench for 15 games for him

I am intrigued by how it will go today. I can talk myself into any of the 3 results.

Having said that, 1-0 them is the obvious bet.

Couple of new signings will be in their team today in Hoppe & Mowatt. That will boost them & their fans, it’s going to be a tough game today.

Wilder will have them pumped post QPR & Barnsley, we used to see that type of reaction after a poor performance in our championship days under Wilder
Oh great we have to face Mowatt two games in a row???

McNair and Mowatt is better than anything we're likely to put out in CM this season

Hopefully Wilder plays his mediocre cloggers Howson and Crooks today

Bruce kindly made Mowatt play for a full 90 against us in the cup before shipping him out.

Highly unlikely he starts

Quite confident we'll get something today. It doesn't feel like Boro have got going under Wilder yet, considering the time he has been there. All the pressure on him and them.

We win this 1-0. Boro lacking a striker. Berge to continue his fine form UTB

Have the nerves started yet........... countdown to kick off begins!
COYRAWW!!

Thanks, I knew you would have the answer 😀. Do you keep a record of the temperature at all the games?!
Yes he does

He has a top 100 favourite temperatures at utd games dating back to 1894 when records began - that’s silents records , not official met office data

He’s particularly fond on 19.6 degrees Celsius for the Utd v derby co game in 1973 and the 3.4 degrees game v aldershot (forgot the date you’ll have to ask silent )

Any help in watching this game , i would appreciate it ! And i dont mean buying a ticket!

Wowzers!

Why do you even bother with football?

They are fairly unspectacular this season so far. More functional than anything else.

We have every opportunity to get something here. Play like we did first half against Millwall and we'll thrash them.

I've heard that if we win by 5 then Wilder will go on about 'lefties' in his post-match interview.

If Mowatt plays does that set some record for a player playing against us twice for two different clubs in 4 days?

9pm for me too mate, whereabouts are you based? Love an early kick-off nowadays, having previously hated them.
I'm in Currambine WA. On a purely selfish level, other than a Saturday 3pm kick off, I love the Sunday lunchtime kick offs. I really dislike having to get up at 2.30am for midweek night matches. Especially if I'm working when I then have to get showered to go to work.

Middlesboro one point in two games players openly slagged off by CW (sounds familiar) fans getting restless, best players sold, don't seem to have any sort of plan, what could possibly go wrong??????? Ah yes Sheffield United the team to get anyone's season up and running, we never get much up at Boro then they go and sign Mowatt who 3 days ago dominated our midfield. I think we all know the likely outcome, Hecky goes all Nigel Clough we concede and can't get back into the game.

It would be nice to get something out of another "bogie fixture."
Traditionally always throw points away against Millwall at home, usually late on.
Very used to losing at The Riverside too.

They've got two excellent threats from wide in Jones & Giles and like to flood the box in numbers, a Wilder tactic that I do miss seeing.
I'm pretty pesimistic on our chances because we're so poor away from home. Heckingbottom needs to wrestle control of that quickly and show some more attacking ambition.
Norwood and Fleck need to get their foot on the ball and help us get some control of the tempo. They haven't done this well this season.

Perhaps it's time to mix the midfield up a little? Wilder knows all to well about our midfield. Close Norwood down early and he's out of the game. When Norwood has an off game, the rest seem to follow. Chuck in some unknowns such as MCatee and Khadra and see how they cope.

I'd go with (if all fit)

FODS

BALDOCK EGAN ANEL CLARK NOZZER

BERGE

MCATEE KHADRA

BREWSTER NDAIYE

If its not working then use the 5 subs to revert back.

Element of surprise rather than predictably.

Edit. The team above is probably the best that we can put out pace wise at this time. Counter attacking options galore 👍

No Gillingham in August 2003 was over 30C
That was during the heatwave which set a new record high temperature for the UK, a record that stood for 16 years. Recorded in Faversham... just next door to Gillingham. Bad luck to be playing there of all places on that day! And I'll bet there was none of this snowflake namby-pamby drinks breaks today's prima donas can't get through a half of football without.

No reason to fear this lot would like to think we can come away with all the points after all our away form will kick start sooner or later and against Wilder will make it all the sweeter

After listening to his pre-match, I suspect the team today might look something like this:

---------------------------------Wes
---------------------Anel------Egan--------Clark------
-------Baldock----------------------------------------RND
-----------------Berge-----Norwood-------Fleck
----------------------Ndiaye---------Jebbo

subs

Amissah, Basham, Doyle, McAtee, Khadra, Sharp, Brewster

It sounded like the new lads are not likely to start given their lack of game time and coming off the back of a Thursday game I can't see those who were picking up their first 90 minutes of game time being in a position to play again.

It's a weird situation with so many just working their way to match fitness. Also we have some difficult decisions on the bench without Osborn and Bash being fit. They both provide really good options for cover.

It's a shame you can't name 9 subs now you can use 5

Every game with them in the last ten years has resulted in a home win. We've won at home and lost away.

Gillingham must have been relieved to be playing at Bramall Lane that day then...

Surprised they’ve let him go personally. A good back up to what they’ve already got. That’s something I like about us this season, we’ve got good backups all over the pitch and we’re not looking to move them on either

Middlesbrough one of my favourite away days, which is a bit surprising given we haven't scored in my previous three visits and wouldn't have hit the net if the goal had been the object in the enclosed photo.

Jebbo will get eaten up by their experience at the back IMO. I really think he needs a few games along side Sharp etc learning how to win fouls/ be in the right positions to score

I initially put Brewster in but I can't see him playing his first 90 in ages on Thursday and then starting again today. I don't think Sharp is ready yet. Which probably leaves Jebbo up top as he had a rest in midweek. Khadra and McAtee are likely still short of minutes to be starting. We're about 2-3 games off having a lot of attacking options.
