This fixture is pretty evenly balanced
Blades wins 45
Draws 23
Middlesbrough wins 43
This fixture also stretches all the way back to 1891 where we won the smoggies 2-1 away from home.
The highest scoring fixture between the two clubs was a whopping 10-3 loss away from home for the blades, back in 1933. We’ve lost by a bigger margin (Newcastle last year 0-8) and we’ve also had a 13-0 loss in the cup to Bolton back in 1890, I’m pretty sure this equals most goals in a competitive game for us.
Between 1974 and 1990 we only won boro once in 11 attempts which was a 2-1 away win in March 1986, Withe and Edward’s getting the goals in Ian Porterfields penultimate game before Billy McEwan took over.
1988 saw another heavy loss this time 0-6 to our supposed Yorkshire rivals (I don’t care who sets the boundaries, what the argument is for it or where it’s officially placed, Middlesbrough is NOT in Yorkshire)
Franz Carr and Brian Deane scored in this 92/93 victory at the lane
A more recent victory for the blades again at bramall lane was this 4-1 a few seasons ago, Berge, Sharp, Robinson and Gibbs - white on the scoresheet
