Fair do's - but the team he inherited was too good to be relegated, ability wise. Like it, or not ( :) ), footballers are a pampered bunch. Adams tried to push the idea that the players should be delighted to be here or ship out. He stuck his heels in, didn't build harmony, and we were relegated.

You're probably right. I'll re-phrase to say they deserved a good cricket-batting even if it was counter-productive.

There should also be rusty nails in said cricket bat. :)

Agreed. Rusty nails, and plenty of 'em. Just at the end of the season and not during it.

With the 3rd highest (if I recall correctly) wage bill in the league. Also with some of the most awful football I've seen 'played' by the Blades.

RE Adams, his hands were tied, but he should still have done better with what he had at his disposal.
We were 2 points clear (not a very good margin granted) off the relegation zone, and he managed to relegate us by 7 points. He was allowed the luxury to bring in players, but it just didn't work for him.
He fell out with players (whether rightly or wrongly) who could have helped out towards our plight.

As I see the situation, most players and every agent are going to take from any club, the maximum that they can get.
It is not a badge of honour to be paying the highest wages in the league. Rather the reverse. Bassett managed to get the very best out of lesser known players ,without throwing heaps of money into the ring. He brought in unknowns and those others couldn't cope with.
Once a manager has had the opportunity to bring in his own players, then that is the time he should be judged. Forgive me for dwelling a little in the past, but, John Harris never broke the bank and by anyone's standards he produced half decent teams who played for each other. On the other hand Robson was allowed to throw money about ,like confetti at a wedding. Adams appears to haver been unable to motivate the players he signed so is culpable..

If as has been stated by another poster, that certain players played the bear. Is that not a breach of contract.? Should they have been properly examined to determine how fit they were.? and remedial treatment of a different kind applied to any who were malingers?

A manager should be strong enough to make these tough decisions. May be, just may be Adams was not. Just saying.

That's where Adams went wrong. He tried the "I'd walk a million miles for this club so so should the players" line and it didn't work. Like it or not, Ward, and a few others, needed their arses tickling.

Agents, pound signs, self first, second and last. Perhaps we should go with the young lads who have been with us since the cradle. Could they be any worse? Looking at the Prem, there are more evenly matched games lower down the leagues.. I would far rather see an honestly contested game, between two sides.. The only games I see now are on TV with the cheating, diving shirt pulling "super stars" There are times when I wish that it would all glo tits up. Let'x xtzrt agzin.
