I'm showing my age here. Many moons ago (1970?) the pythons were interviewed on telly. They were each asked what was the best thing that had happened that year. Palin said "Sheffield Wednesday got relegated."
As far as I'm concerned that makes him a blade.

His travel books are a rich source of Blades references. Plenty in Around The World In 80 Days and gems such as this in Full Circle as he passed through a particularly boring part of Japan.

Everywhere that was poky is quaint and every cramped street is picturesque and unspoilt. The train ride becomes an incomparable pleasure"
He also describes drinking from his United hip flask as he goes through the Atacama.
Pretty sure it's not up for debate in where his allegiances lie really.
