Keeper (preference Henderson)
RWB to replace Freeman
Panos Retsos
Jagielka another year
Midfielder to replace Besic
Striker to replace Leon Clarke and maybe another to replace Zivkovic (if we don’t keep Robinson)
Possibly an attacking midfielder

The championship (and european leagues) will be full of value this window this window so we could probably do all that for under £30m.
Don't see the value in Jags for another year, especially at his level of wage but I think we agree on where we need cover/youth coming through.

I'd say a keeper regardless of Hendo. If we could get Ramsdale should Bournmouth go down I would, and even offer to loan him back for a year if Hendo rejoins.
RWB - A Jayden Bogle type ie young, but someone we can develop in our formation and way of playing.
Restos so long as Bayer will negotiate on his fee, assuming it wasn't under 10 million initially.
Another young centre half.
2 central midfielders. Ideally one who is more offensively minded, who can run with the ball to create chances, someone like Eze?
2 or 3 forwards. Probably 2 due to the cost at this end of the pitch but longer term replacements for Billy and Didsy. Is Watkins a likely fit, although he'd be popular so his price may top out.

Thought the retsos price was set at nine million ?

Jags isnt earning much at all, and is perfectly adequate to sit in the bench. Signing a young premier league quality centre back is pissing money away when they won’t play unless there’s a freak injury, Egan is one of the best in the country.

On the need for a striker, Id probably be more inclined to instead of spending a bit on 2 or 3, spend a larger fee on a quality forward and recall Robinson. McBurnie, Moussett, Sharp, Robinson, McGoldrick and another is more than enough (presuming that McBurnie and Moussett develop as they should, with the physical quality they already have and our excellent coaching staff)

What are you thinking is driving that JD? General running costs plus the costs to extend the contracts without the crowd income being there to cover it?
I'd guess this is likely to be funded by reducing our transfer budget, and we're used to covering running costs for a couple of months normally during the close season, which is going to be significantly reduced this year. My personal view is that we should look to loan given the record low interest rates at the moment, coupled with the fact there is going to be more value in the market this summer than normal, so we could take advantage of that if our transfer budgets were unaffected.
It's also a good time to borrow to upgrade the ground but that's another topic, but given the announcement on prices keeping us cheaper than those others across the city there are strong opportunities to increase fan base and improve facilities further increasing matchday revenues once we reopen.
There was some link a month or so showing how we, amongst a number of other clubs, had taken loans against future income.

The consensus seemed that it was quite commonplace.

I thought Jags was by a long way our top earner? If he wants to coach then fine but we need someone who can effectively cover us on the field when needed and I think that’s getting beyond him.
I’ve already said I believe the Championship and most European leagues will be significantly deflated so now would be the time to buy the replacements we’ll need. Restos would further push for a start but you probably have a point on a 2nd CB youngster.
I think McBurnie will generally be a starter so the other position is up for grabs. Not sure around Robinson but if someone like Watkins could be secured that would really lift the excitement going into the season. We’d also have a well balanced forward line with Billy/Mcgoldrick/McBurnie/Moose/Watkins.

Surely there's no way a 37 year old free agent comes in as our top earner?

If he is we're thick and he's got the best agent going.

which 1 are you thinking of? Norrington-Davies, Slater, Smith, somebody else?
No idea. RND is the one who seems closest? But it's the next step in club development to get an academy player at least near a squad

Had a quick scan down this season's stats only RND had a prolonged run in a team lg 1 Rochdale who look like getting relegated (probably are after today). It could happen but I think it's a long way away.

Agreed. If either Bournemouth or Watford go down I’d be more than happy with us picking up Foster as a low risk and cheap option, or better still trying to coax Bournemouth into parting with Ramsdale.
Foster just signed a 2 year deal with Watford. He may well leave if they go down but he would cost a fee.

I'm sure your right and a 37 year old free agent, signed as backup isn't going to be our top earner.

But even if he was at say the equivalent of £50,000 pw...

50k pw = £2.6m for the season.

That's the equivalent of signing a player for £2m and giving them a wage of £11,500 p/w (in terms of 1 seasons worth of costs).

Its hardly crazy money when you look at it like that and for the money we got:

- an experienced Premier league CB (squad was lacking in players with prem experience)

- former England International

- leader / captain

- knows the club

- happy to be backup

When you look at the full financial costings of a signing instead of just the rumoured wage p/w, it can often show a different light on the value.

To be fair, our squad is now full of Prem experience, we are 7th afterall.

Yes good on yer Prince , Bettis and co. Lots of earlier concerns about ticket price hikes, under investment. He said judge me by actions and to be getting a season ticket renewals with this scheme is a great indication of his good intent.

2 centre midfielders so norwood ,fleck ,lundstram ,berge ,besic ,freeman and 2 others ?
Besic will have gone. If lundstrams agent carries on fucking about then cash it now on him before his value drops next year.

Don’t forget that (hopefully) there’ll be more games next year too, so more depth is required.

The rwb, cb, 2 cm’s, striker, and retsos
Retsos and Zivkovic are both apparently staying? Not claiming ITK, just came from someone that has been previously.
JAGS could stay another season, he gives us the home grown player for the Europe run, if we get there.
We're currently ok in midfield, Lunny, L Freeman, Osbourne, Bash can all cover.
And we have K Freeman at the moment, not the best, but I've seen worse, and Baldock rarely suffers any ailments.
So yeah, I'd buy Hendo in a heartbeat, and maybe we can bring one or 2 youth players in, and a loan?
I'm not worried, we were ridiculed for not taking them prem seriously with the players we have, I think they've proved they're good enough, we don't have the biggest squad, but we do have the biggest heart.

Baldock spend half the last two seasons injured, Kieron Freeman is out of contract.

Do you really want Chris Basham playing in midfield (which also means someone else playing rcb) in the premier league or champions league? You need quality squad depth not just “he can do a job there”.

Retsos and Zivkovic will also require fees (and you’d suspect Retsos in particular wouldn’t be cheap)

I'm sure I read from someone innuniteds hierarchy that the fees agreed for retsos and richario ( zichovic ) were 9 and 2 million

At the end of the day, Wilder will decide and only he knows the budget.
Would I blow most of it on a keeper that will only get better and, let's be honest, the best English keeper in England currently and definitely in the top 5 keepers in the league, well, yes i definitely would.
Will it happen, probably not.
Will we buy 6 new players.......I'm going to say no.

Every single window under wilder we’ve brought in more players than everybody thought we would, including wilder himself. As he’s said on more than one occasion, if you stand still in football then you’re going backwards.

I don’t think you’ll find a single United supporter who doesn’t want Henderson on a permanent deal, but you’ve got to be realistic and say there’s about a 1 on a hundred chance of it happening
