Sheffield is bigger than Liverpool and has the 3rd biggest metropolitan area (not to be confused with urban) in the country.

Agree it wouldn’t be for me, but give it a generation and a club established in the PL would comfortably pull 50-60,000 per week.

I support Sheffield United, which for a start means that footballing success isn't exactly the reason I do it. It's innate, part of who I am. It cannot be bargained and sold on the prospect of material gain.

In the 80's there were attempts to merge Oxford and Reading and also Fulham and QPR. Both fell through because the respective fans hated the idea.
These are smaller clubs than ours, and may have benefitted from merging, but the fans didn't want it, why? Because Oxford aren't Reading and Fulham aren't QPR. There's a singular identity that comes with supporting every single football club (except MK Dons, fuck them) and it's a sacred thing to many.

I actually think my friendships would be damaged if we ever became divided on the issue. In the same way that the Miners Strike set brother against brother.

Because in some respects, it's not just a game. You form memories, you have traditions, you're bonded by this common entity that you call your football club. For me, that's not for sale for any price or for any amount of silverware.

Yes they were going to be called Thames Valley Royals IMS, right we know a merge wouldn't work mainly because of fans. I have a mate who's an Owl and said to him other day not so much merging but what if both played at same ground, BDTBL it has to be there as Swillsboro is a shit hole.

If I say if they ever got back to the PL it would cost an absolute fortune to bring the ground up to standard, best thing to do build public toilets there.
