Brief by necessity, nevertheless our short history concerning Burton contains some interesting facts.

Despite being formed in 1950, Burton only gained Football League status in 2009-10.

Significant others? Paul Peschisolido was the manager for the 2009-12 seasons. Nigel Clough was Burton manager from October 1998 to January 2009, left to manage Derby County for over four years and joined the Blades as manager in October 2013 and then returned to Burton in December 2015 to present. Neil Warnock was The Brewers’ manager from January 1981 to February 1986. Full-back John Brayford from 2014 to 2017 was firstly on loan at United and later joined on a permanent basis for a reported fee of £1.5m, later returning to The Brewers on August 31st, 2017. Kyle McFadzean is another former Blades defender currently playing for Burton. Chris Hussey featured briefly for the Blades (and scored both Burton goals in the match on 6/8/2013) and…of course…Mark Duffy.

Fun fact: no less than 4 different teams from Burton have graced the football league:

Burton Swifts: in league from 1892-3 to 1900-01
Burton Wanderers:in league from 1894-5 to 1896-7
Burton United: (merger of Swifts and Wanderers): in league from 1901-2 to 1906-7
Burton Albion: in league from 2009-present

Yes, Burton once had two teams in the league at the same time!

United have actually beaten one of these teams in the League - we beat Swifts home and away in our 1892-3 promotion season. And we waited 123 years to play a Burton team in the league again.

Remember we also played them away in a pre season friendly in 2010 which I think we lost 1-0. Fans were already calling for Blackwell out in that game before the season had even started and subsequently got their wish 2 games into the season. The sarcastic chant “Kevin Blackwell football genius” was coming from the away end.

I think we played em in a pre season friendly not sure if it was in atkins time they beat us 4-0 certainty got the alarm bell ringing.may have been in clough,s time can't remember.

That 1-0 home defeat the last time we played them was a particularly chastening experience for anyone that was unfortunate enough to attend.

I'm so relieved that we are unlikely to see that type of performance from a Blades team while Wilder is manager.

Hands down the worst game I’ve ever been to.

Yep, I went to that. Just before the 2nd Clough season. Shite result, but a lovely town, about a million pubs and a great little ground. A mate of my dad works for them so I'm trying to get a ticket in the posh seats, if they do in fact exist at the Pirelli Stadium.

Callum McFadzean is another. Spent time on loan at Burton from the blades.

The goalless draw there under Adkins was so frustrating. They were they’re for the taking but we just weren’t interested in winning it. We were Cloughesque and happy with the point. Remember Woodford getting dogs abuse (the first of many) and giving blades fans the rods. At least we can be sure our approach will be nothing like the last time

My main memory of Burton is the Johnstone's Paint game, missing the supporters' coach by a minute and having to follow it down to Burton in my car :(

I was at that game and when the fans have gone past anger and it had turned to plain p*** taking you just know the game is up. Blackwell should have been relieved of his duties at the end of 09/10 season.

Went to see us play Burton in the pre-season friendly - Harry's last game for us before the transfer to Hull - think we lost 4 nil !

Butler played at CH with Collins (Butler left, Collins right) and they were abysmal. Butler then didn't play again and went out on loan to Donny and we ended up with fuck all in centre defence.

Saw the 0-0 under Madkins and knew then Burton were half decent - gave nowt away. Duffy played that night and thought " he's quite decent". They also played some Egyptian in midfield who was also quite decent - think he went with Hasslebaink to QPR.

All in all, pretty bad memories of Burton - but reckon we'll do them big style Friday night.

UTB

I was there for that as well - After being torn apart first half we swapped both central defenders with Maguire and McGahey playing 2nd. I thought at the time that they might work well together given time. Then as you say Maguire was sold and McGahey never really had a chance to fulfil his potential given the shambles around the club at the time. I suspect that had McGahey come into the club under the current regime he would have stood a chance of really kicking on, he certainly had the physical attributes to play at a decent level. He might yet make it, according to SoccerBase he's a regular for Rochdale since he left us and has played over 60 times for them, still only 22.
