Memries of Burnley

My only memory of Burnley is going away on a coach, awful weather, the M62 was shut because some lampposts had blown over. We had to weave our way across the Pennines and got there about ten minutes from the end. Can’t remember the score, just remember talking to Paul Heaton as we walked between Lancashire pubs en route, because it was quicker than sitting on the coach. Must have been about late 80’s early 90’s?
That's the one I remember too. Deano scored a hat trick the previous Saturday and repeated it against Burnley in a 4-2 win. Due to the traffic, we arrived with about 20 minutes left and saw Burnley score their second goal. Great result but not particularly remembered as a great night. As we said at the time, "we'll not forget this night"! We haven't!!!

My memory of Burnley is Woody getting sent off at Turf Moor
I’m sure I went to Burnley, we lost & Woody got sent off - his first sending off
Bitter memories of Burnley revolve around two words:

Kevin McNally (four words if you add "bent twat" at then end.
Yep, I was at that too.

Not only did Woody get sent off but Andy Keeley was sent of as well.

If memory serves me right we lost 4-1

The next time that McNally came to Bramall Lane I distinctly remember a loud chant of "bring on the bastard" before he appeared from the tunnel but I've no idea who that was against.

It's Turd mire actually. Not moor.

And Ralph Coates still holds the record for the silliest combover in football.

That must have been the FA Cup replay, Deane hat trick? Littlejohn with the other.

My first real memory of Burnley is of a Saturday night 7:30 ko game at Turf Moor, early to mid seventies. We won 2-1, I think with Eddy and Currie scoring. I missed Curries winner due to a lot of fighting on that side terrace and can’t remember why it was a Saturday night fixture either.
Have we played on a Saturday night since, not just a late ko at teatime?

Funnily enough, traffic problems meant we got there late and missed Keith Eddy's opener. Currie scored with a mighty half volley from about 25 yards, fair flew in.

To be repeated many years later when missing Deano scoring the first of his hat trick in the Cup replay due to similar traffic chaos.
Never missed any other Blades goal by arriving late (including BDTBL) but caught out twice at Turf Moor. Shit hole!!!

First memory was the 2-2 in the FA cup. We were shite but somehow clawed it back for a draw... went on to two semi final that year.

Been to turf moor twice, lost both times. Latest one was Micky Adam's first game in charge. God we were shit that year.

Fresh in my mind after playing the cheating spammers on Saturday. Walking up Wembley way with loads of Burnley fans at the playoff final and them singing ‘there’s only one Carlos Tevez’

My how we chuckled at their witty banter.

Some Burnley game memories:

1983-4 - Dire 0-0 draw as we had a bad January during our promotion season.

1992-3 - the 3rd round cup game. Burnley sold out the away end and took more seats in the South Stand. The only comparable away following I've seen at the Lane were Derby County's hordes in 1986 and 1987. 2 goals from Adrian Heath, United dead and buried but Beesley's late goal gave us a draw. Heath and Littlejohn sent off for fighting, which was pretty funny I recall.

1994-5 - Won 2-0 with a brace from Nathan Blake, the second scored with literally the last kick of the game, which was the first time I'd ever seen that happen.

2002-3 - won 1-0 at Turf Moor with a deflected goal from Iffy Onuora, his only goal for us. There was a minute's silence for Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman before the game. I sat in the press box, next to the guy who was doing the Radio Lancs commentary, which was an odd experience.

In 54 years following the Blades I've only ever been to 1 game on a Saturday night and that was at Burnley in January 1974, remember getting into a fight in a chip shop before the game (it was a typical 70s thing then)
Anyone else know why we played at that strange time?

See explanation from Sharrowblade

My abiding memory is of leaving Wembley, most of the Burnley fans were naturally still celebrating in the stadium but a couple of them, a bloke and a big ugly female were walking down Wembley way on the other side of the road.

the woman was loud and obnoxious, giving us grief and the anxious bloke was trying to shut her up. “What are they going to do, come over and hit me?” She squealed.

To which the bloke in front of me shouted the immortal words:-

“Well we’re not going to come and fuck you love”

Aldershot in the Fa Cup 9th January 1979. We drew 0-0. He was bad that night too!!

power cuts??

Opening day of 04/05. Hottest day ever, some temporary traffic lights at Todmorden causing tailbacks past Hebden, overheated cars littering the side roads of the Calder Valley and Helios side footing over from three yards in the last minute.

That was a bad night full stop.

At the time I lived in Farnley, Leeds and came down with my brother in law who lived just round the corner and a mate that drove us down who lived at the bottom end of Dewsbury Road in Leeds.

It was a freezing cold night, a rubbish game and my mates car broke down on Penistone road on the way home, just as it started snowing.

Fortunately he was in the AA so the AA van duly arrived albeit a long time later.

The car couldn't be fixed but as my mate had "relay" cover he towed it to the bridge over the M1 at Junction 36 and left us there to await a recovery truck that could take the car and three occupants back to Leeds.

All this time the snow was very heavy and was getting deeper and deeper on the ground.

Eventually the recovery truck turned up but the driver would only take us to our mates house in Beeston so my brother in law and myself were left to walk the 5 miles back home from there.

By the time we made it back to Farnley there must have been 8 to 10 inches of snow on the ground.

That was a night I will never forget, even if I couldn't remember who the bastard referee was!
