A couple more for completions sake - Peski included in the latter :-)

Left back was a bit of a revolving door; Ullathorne started until he was injured - Kozzy did play there, we also has Wayne Quinn back on loan in Jan/Feb and John Curtis turned up at the back end of the season.

Jon Harley played 10 games at left back.
I think Curtis was a right back wasn't he?

We had Tommy Mooney on loan that season (Warnock and his past-it striker obsession!).

Who insisted on taking the last minute free kick at Anfield which came to nothing when Brown and Tonge were far better options.

Never forgiven. Not for missing but for taking it ahead of Brown who just scored for fun at that time.

One free kick away from a major final.....

I watched it on TV and the way it flashed across the goal with the goalie rooted to his spot made me think, for one moment, it had gone in....

Slightly off topic but it's pretty crazy to think the magical season of 02/03 was 10 years ago! I doubt I will ever see a Blades team as enjoyable and exciting to watch. A real shame we never got promoted and it ended how it did but what a fantastic team!

I think it was something a long the lines of this:
Kenny
Jags
Page
Murphy
Kozzy?
Ndlovu
Brown
McCall
Tonge
Kabba
Windass/asaba

Good times and a shame to see us where we are now.

That midfield in particular was excellently balanced, and the best in my time as a Blade. Last season's midfield was good quality at that level, but relied on (very good) support from the full backs and it helped them that Evans was so effective. The promotion winning midfield of 2005/06 was very solid, if not spectacular.

I'd sooner have the team from 73 :D

True, players like Hockey, Eddy, Currie, Salmons and Woodward etc gave us a pretty formidable midfield, although some of them played more as forwards than midfield players. I suppose in the modern game they would be called attacking midfield players.

But the 2002-3 midfield of Tonge, Brown, McCall and Ndlovu was probably as good if not better than anything we've had since 1973, and along with the rest of the side provided us with just as much excitement - albeit in a lower division.

I was sat behind the goal. That moment was much shorter lived from my angle. :)
