We needed a draw, that's it, the same as Chelsea in 94 and Walsall in 81!

Wigan was a fucker as Warnock thought he'd done it after we'd beat West ham and gave up on the other games, infuriatingly at Villa where he practically admitted he would let Villa win.

He never once played the same side again after WH and like the total twat he is made the week leading up to Wigan about his contract, and played Jags out of position.

I knew at kick of wed lose we just weren't at it, special shout out to Webber missing a sitter. That was on Warnock that one.
...and we lost to a pen scored by our former full back Unsworth, Warnock got rid of him that very season... I think for missing a pen against Blackburn. You couldn't have written it!

You’ve not mentioned the 3 failures against Leicester in the 1961 FA cup semi final, 2 draws then lost the 2nd replay.

So it that 20th time lucky?

Pretty incredible really….a 2 horse race and we never win.
It’s like going on the roulette table and putting £100 on red it comes up black.
So you put £100 on black but this time it comes up red, so you try black again, still red, black again still red.
The switch it to red but this time it’s back to black.

Is this a trick? Why do we never win in massive (history changing) matches?

When we do have favourable results in massive matches…..it ends up making no difference.
For example the 5-2 away at Leicester when we won, we would have been promoted anyway becuase Newcastle lost.
We were basically playing for the league title but Leeds won, so our win made no difference to our position. We could have lost and still been promoted.

The other massive game was Burnley 0 Hull City 2.
The season had finished but (shockingly) Hull were allowed to play a re-arranged match after the season ended and they need to win 3-0 to pip us for promotion.
Hull were really unlucky and should have scored at least 3 goals, however I’m thinking it’s rare that a club celebrates promotion with no fans at the match.
So regards that promotion in 1984 we were deprived our mass promotion party. I reckon if 15K Blades had attended then Hull would have won 3 or 4-0.

Watney Cup final in 1972 v Bristol Rovers.
0-0, lost on penalties 7-6. 😐

Kin'ell, pass the razor blades mate!

Yep, that Villa game and how we handled it (they were a mediocre side and had packed up for the season) was beyond appalling. We could have gone there, had a right pop at them, and even if we had lost it would probably have only been by the odd goal, making it nearly impossible for Wigan to overtake us on goal difference on the final day. Blades fans were in fancy dress that day. It was like the team were too. Just needed one professional performance and we were safe, but as usual we made a right cock up of it and lost 3 nil i think. I knew that night driving home that we were probably going down due to our unprofessional attitude. Warnock acting the all about me, tw@t didn't help matters.
I'm sorry but talk about revisionist

Over time that myth about us only needing to turn up.to roll villa over has been told so many times it's at owlstalk proportions of deludamol

I was at that game and they fucking murdered us
Full house on the anniversary of their European cup win with free scarves handed out and legends paraded out on the pitch
It was their best atmosphere of the season and their front three of Ashley young ,jhon carew and agbonglahor as well as Patrick berger were far too good for a pretty mediocre blades team and we were no match for them
Aston Villa: Sorensen, Hughes, Mellberg, Laursen, Bouma, Agbonlahor (McCann 83), Gardner, Barry, Berger (Davis 72), Carew (Moore 79), Young.
Subs Not Used: Taylor, Cahill.

It was an end of season party atmosphere. And we turned up and joined them like we had nothing to play for.

Awful.

Nah. I was there too. It was as I described.

They 'murdered us' as we didn't turn up with the right attitude. It was poor from United.

That was the same all conquering Villa side (not sure why you named their team...for added effect to try and emphasise a point?) But this was the all conquering Villa team that finish about 10 points above us, and below Bolton, Reading, Portsmouth and Blackburn. They really weren't that good, but we're allowed to be through really sloppy play. If you was there (as i was, did I say that already) you would remember how pissed off United fans were coming out at our pathetic surrender that night.

So yes revisionist, but not on my part Angry Frank.

The Villa away match in 2007 is probably the most spineless, pointless performance I’ve ever seen from us.

Agree we played it like a pre-season friendly

And what made it worse was Warnock smiling in his post match interview as though the result didn’t matter because we were safe anyway.

No way was West Ham going to win every single one of their final matches included a final game away at top of the league Man Utd, a ground where West Ham hadn’t won at for about 50 years.

We will never know as we didn't turn up with the right attitude.

And a team that has finished 7 places behind another team in the same league and 12 points behind in the final table (and no more than 9 points in front when we played them then) has never gone away and won ? Perhaps we should have told Hull City this season then they were wasting their time as they rocked up and beat us 3 nil at the Lane then this season.

Ok mate.

Hull must have turned up with the right attitude that day

The issue has never been that we could/should have won, but rather we never made any attempt to try and even compete.

Exactly. Don't tell Frankie Boy though. He was there with his half and half scarf and enjoying it whirling it around his head enjoying the atmosphere and paying homage to the all conquering Villa invincibles.

Meanwhile, some of us were disgusted with our pathetic attempt that night. Anyway, water under the bridge. But Warnock didn't help matters.

You're right actually we should have won the league that season but just didn't have the right attitude
I'm fuming

Now I don't know if you are sounding angry, or just just silly. Actually, probably both. Daft lad.

Just think what I could do with a better attitude

Cure cancer or run a mile in ten seconds
Time travel perhaps

Some people are just very odd. It's like conversing with a 5 year old. Bed time yet?

Not really sure what you are yapping on about, tbh but clearly it's not the original subject matter.

It is a crazy stat

For me we have lost already in my head , the 24th starts from the base that we have already lost and its a day out in london anything more is a bonus
After all the pain and torture we've endured over the years we keep going in the slightest hope that one day we will win ⚔️

I presume you were asleep for most of our games last season then, particularly Arsenal away and Newcastle at home?
