From what I've heard of him from some Blackpool fans he seems very reminiscent of Harry; Tall, good in the air and composed on the ball. Maybe lacking in pace and slow on the turn. It seems Clough see's as one for the future although i doubt he would have come from probably starting for a championship club to sitting on the bench in league 1. Will be interesting to see who starts at center half even if Harry does leave.

If what Blackpool supporters says is true, I think we've got someone who can slot in immediately for Harry. Though I don't doubt that we'll start the season with Butler and Collins as the centre back pairing.

One nagging question - why just a two year deal? Is there an option for a third year? If, and I don't really doubt he has potential, he's meant to be a good 'un, why not at least a three or four year deal with an option of a further year?

Glad he's finally arrived, and further proof our transfer policy is based on sound principles such as....err, common-sense?

Yes, there is a 12-month option.
 
Hopefully this ends up being a good signing but I'm not convinced with people thinking he will be a direct replacement for Harry, the lad as only four first team games under his belt, Maguire as over 100.
I do hope the lad hits the ground running and shines for us but surely we should not be hyping this lad up to much.

Cheers Martin, just had this vision of the lad achieving a rep as a good to great player and leaving before we've seen more of him. Just wonder why it was a two year + deal, as opposed to a three year + deal? Never mind, at least we've signed him and he'll be under Nigel's wing. Just hope that everyone shows patience with the fella. Harry's not the finished product and this lad will fall into that category.

Can't answer that JD, could be a variety of reasons - maybe the boy was disenchanted at the club's lack of ambition? Maybe he'd fallen out with someone? I can't recall his contractual position with Blackpool, so maybe he (or his agent) moved from a position of strength and liked what Nigel had to say? Who knows?

Based on what's been happening at Blackpool this pre-season, it's possible HM2 just feels like it's a sinking ship and wants out?

By that I mean just 8 players, one pre season friendly, no back room staff atm...

Because there is about 8 players in their first team squad with less than a month to go til the season starts. There manager also looks pretty pissed off and on his way out as well.

The question should be why would he have wanted to stay? Most the people he knows have left or are going it seems.

Mixture of reasons. He was apparently on a youth contract at Blackpool and they offered him £175 per week to sign on again (with an appearance fee on top). We then came in and offered a better professional deal.

The bit I'm not sure about is why Blackpool's top echelons then withdrew their contract offer. Maybe they thought they'd get another million or so out of us but we've been through the tribunal process (and will have been researching it for Maguire) so knew that wouldn't happen.

The bottom line is that Blackpool made an estimated £40m out of their stay in the Premier League but it's all gone. Karl Oyston paid his father Owen £11m the season they got relegated so it's not a stretch to guess that most of their profits since have gone the same way; their justification is that since they took over in 1988 they've rebuilt Bloomfield Road and bankrolled the club.

The fact that it's Celtic means that it probably follows the McLeod, MacDermid and McFadzean rule and is pronounced nothing like it's written. "Smith" it is.
