But rewind back to the start of the season - the boy came with baggage. We'd all heard about his off the field problems, and he'd just been released from Burnley FC.
If we'd given him a three year deal, and he'd turned out to be bobbins and / or trouble, what then?

Hardly, the deal had to be funded additionally to the agreed wage bill.

We offered him a one year deal. He played extremely well throughout that year, so much that he was arguably our most influential player.

What more do you expect of him, he held up his end of the deal?

He doesn’t owe us anything.
Yes, you could argue that we have improved him as a player (remember his earlier appearances for us, where he wouldn’t track back, and was a liability without the ball?) but maybe his initial contract reflected the fact that improvement was needed?
Maybe he does deserve better terms, seeing as he’s now proven himself?
I’d love to see him in a Blades shirt next season, but his agent will be pressing for the longest deal on the best possible terms for him, wherever that may be – that’s his job.

Thing is, with a less intellegent forward than Ched ( I know what I've put ) to work with next season is he going to be as effective if no-one else can read his passing? Would we not maybe benefit from a busier more box-to-box cm like the bloke at Scunny, or , if we can re-sign KM, some proper wingers for him to put into space?

Probably right there. If there isn't anyone making a run who is he going to pass to?

If our main striker next season is going to be Cressy or Porter they really jsut want balls in to the box. So the best option would be wingers with pace and a decent corss (I know this is a big ask on our budget), than McD can play through to feed the strikers.

I'd absolutely love it if McDonald agreed to stay with us, but I'd never begrudge a player moving to a different club for more money or to a higher league. At the end of the day - it's a job. A VERY well paid job, but it's still a job!

He ssemed to pull out all stops to get Billy Sharp ahead of letting him join Wednesday.
