McCabe Interview

The way I feel is completely in tune with many, many fans who've walked away from football recently.
I still enjoy the social side of going to games but have no illusions about how the game is run, who runs it, how wrong it is that players like Evans are made for life for doing nothing (costing more than an entire year's season ticket proceeds in the process), how fans are duped and how even fans now often see the success of clubs in terms of £ signs and that is all that counts.

Glad you said 'walked away from football' rather than walked away from United. There's a malaise around the game that isn't exclusive to United. I've just had a text from a massive pig fan who says he's sick of the soap opera and might watch Handsworth for a while. It's unthinkable that he wouldn't be at the sty or wherever wednesday were playing every week but he's close to having had enough.

I think the wider context of fans falling out of love with the game is important to bear in mind when so many are whinging about the Blades and saying how they feel about the club is changing/has changed. It isn't just an SUFC problem.

Murdoch, Richards, Scudamore etc etc have a lot to answer for. I think a few more years of decline might bring about change and see the fans reclaim the game and follow the German model a bit more closely. Vive la revolution!

Would like to think you're Mr Coops but I can't see it without government intervention somewhere along the line.
Too many huge vested interests.
Our crowd will be massaged next week with the cheapies and freebies but otherwise we'd be looking at 15,000 for a match on tv.
Still galls me that Birch/McCabe were so out of touch with our club they didn't see what was coming at the end of last season but do agree it's a wider problem.
However, it was exacerbated at the Lane, hence the bigger hit in attendances/season tickets.

Sorry lad, but you shouldn't post on something when you've no idea what's been said by me or others on here about that particular issue.
And you shouldn't be posting like you know what EVERYBODY is saying about a particular issue.

The flag waving thing when the teams come with the kids next to the dug out has nothing to do with us. It wasn't our idea and we are not involved.

The Flag Day, however, was an idea from 1 of our members to make the atmosphere better and more colourful. There is a lot of stick throwing about this Flag day also which is big part of how it was communicated across, which in all fairness was pretty damn poor.

How it works is: You take your flag to BDTBL, they cut a tiny corner piece of and burn it. If it burns, it fails, you don't get a cert. If it doesn't, it gets signed in the same corner and you are given a cert. The cert. is then valid for all home game, take your cert. to away grounds to get it to pass their fire safety standards. 1 little test that is free and your flag is fine for ALL matches. The cost is a small part of your time, I think that's reasonable and shows the club is being pro-active about this problem that's been marring home matches with fans and stewards fighting game in-game out.
The member who's brought this forward has been looking into this for a long time and has been pursuing this issue with a lot of effort in finding a solution to it. I think that seeing as he's a volunteer who just wants some atmosphere at BDTBL he should be commended for his efforts.

We are responsible for a lot of things over the last year, I've just named a few.

The flag waving shit was about .01% of the importance of my post, however if anyone thinks that waving a flag round will raise the atmosphere at the Lane then your an idiot. Let's hope we don't go 1-0 down to prove what a bad idea it is.

The only thing that improves atmospheres are wins, which is where 99.9% of my post is about. We are a club at present sadly missing identity; we don't know where we should be going for promotion, fighting relegation, spending money, selling the silver or what. As fans we need to know what to expect and sadly we are being let down by the communiction we receive.

I think as a fan now, I just need to know whether Gary Speed is going to be backed.
You can stick your flags and mom text shit where the sun does not shine. So tell me what is BIFF all about?

I bet with your super aggressive tone, he's desperate to spend time explaining what BIFF is all about to you.

:)

I'll let you off with a yellow card this time.
Trust me, it's been debated long and hard. One side came out substantially on top.

We're relying on govt intervention? Oh well, that's my optimism crushed.

My 'hope' is that the game goes through a decline so big that Murdoch et al lose all interest and we can, almost, start again. There's definitely a growing anger that the game has been stolen away from 'us', sanitised and commoditised (sp?). Having said that, it isn't that long ago that, for us at least, the game felt exciting and true to its working class roots - 2002/03, especially in G&H, was a magical time for those of us too young to have (really) experienced the 70s and 80s. Yes it was a 'lite' (apologies for the Americanism) version but it felt raw and exciting when we beat Leeds, Liverpool and the rest. It seemed real and we all cared and were all proud. Can things change that much in 7 years? It seems like it at the moment but 02/03 is recent enough that hope hasn't died completely.

I think United fans can do more, our tendency towards self-pity isn't helpful. The Leeds away game and the atmosphere (via al-jazeera) today shows we haven't completely lost our mojo. Fuck the powers that be, let's get behind Speed, Monty and the lads and be United.

Could be wrong but I think the German situation is backed by the football authorities/government.
As for Murdoch, he's already won. Too many global lucrative markets already tapped into.
Best times I remember as a Blade were under Bassett. Usually smaller crowds at home but better atmospheres and took more away in those days.

Not all that well up on my politics but I'm guessing the powers that be are a bit more forward looking in Germany. Perhaps they don't see football fans as scum who must be crushed? If we wait from help from Cameron, Clegg and whoever follows, we're condemned forever.

The Bassett days were incredible and magical but I was (approx) 13 to 19 so seen through very youthful eyes in my case. Formative years in terms of what I think Blades (on and off the pitch) should be like but not fully immersed in it from an adult point of view. It was more about joining the ranks of what I'd read about in Shoot and Match than overcoming years of disappointment.

It'll be Warnock and his teams that I hark back to as an old man. Over a decade of hurt erased with one close range goal at home to Hull.

I've never seen anyone say that they were glad that walker and naughton were sold. The only positive comments regarding that sale were that 10 million was a good price. Neither of them are pulling up any trees at the moment, so those particular comments were and remain perfectly valid.

I'd still rather have them one of them in the team though. I doubt whether we'd have been able to keep them both happy.

That's because no one said they were happy that they'd been sold. Len just needs to make it up to give his argument some basis of truth.

Maybe they should have advertised in the Star.

You were a bit out with your season tickets though Len weren't you.

BIFF is voluntary group of fans the take fans "Match Day" issues, ie. catering, toilets, atmosphere, Queues, Ticketing, stewarding, Super store products, etc. to the Powers that be and sort them out so people are getting what they pay for. A Good match-day experience whether or not of the Result on the pitch. We do not engage in First Team, Manager, Finances or Board room affairs/discussions.

We are fans also and differ in our views on the First team etc.

eg. When Keith Edwards said today during commentary "If you don't want to invest....... Find another Hobby!!! "
A man after my own heart.
Others in the forum and the Board room will probably differ from that view.

You were a bit out with your season tickets though Len weren't you.

Could have sworn someone said we'd lose 5,000 season ticket holders when others scoffed.
I do believe someone also pointed out that the sale of Walker in particular damaged the club when others thought it was good business.
I also seem to remember someone dissing his ability though I seem to recall the same person was having hallucinations whenever he saw Ched Evans.
I've been very gentle with you Bob but be careful son.

You didn't say 5,000 at first that was your adjustment which still wasn't entirely accurate even at the second time of asking. You said less than Wednesday. I also never said I was happy that the Kyles were sold, another claim you can't substantiate.

And please don't try online threats, it makes you look even more pathetic than your behaviour in this thread.

We all know what is is you said and what your claims are. We also know that you only ever seem to attack the club and that your change you stance when your opinion is proven incorrect.
You see every discussion as something that has to be won or lost and have no interest in actually partaking in friendly constructive debate.

Be careful? Have a word with yourself and grow the fuck up, you're far too old to be behaving like a child.

Oh Bob, chillout, it's just a forum.
We all get things wrong sometimes, even me.
Just because you've got most things wrong when debating with me there's no need to get wound up.
Chillout son, it's Sunday, we got three points to stay out of the drop zone and apparently even Chedwyn wasn't totally shit yesterday.

I don't care if I get banned for this.

Len, you are clearly the most miserable, negative and argumentative idiot i have ever come across in any form of football forum. You can on occasions make very valid and thought provoking points, which is exactly what football forums should be for.

However the way you go about things otherwise is provocative and self indulgent. You will not answer any clear questions put at you, you simply give a politicians answer and state your own thoughts, over and over and over again, avoiding a direct question. Your main aim is to be controversial, nothing else. I would put money on that if this place was full of people moaning about everything about the club, you would be the one piping up about how great things are and how we should all be grateful, therefore provoking an abrasive response from the consensus of the forum. I frankly think you get off on it, and have probably got a wry smile on your face reading this.

Every poster, except for yourself, know's how to agree to disagree, you however push it to the limit. You like to have the last word. You don't like debate, you just like to reiterate your own opinion, with you there is no debate, just statements.

You will read this and just ignore it like you choose to ignore every straight question that has been put to you in the past. Or you'll spout some more bullshit to provoke another response. In my opinion it was the likes of you joining which caused a lot of the old guard to virtually cease posting, and that for me is the saddest thing about your existence on this forum.

I've had my rant, how much you choose to read and belittle is up to you, but you will all the same, either to yourself, or more likely you'll take the chance to pick holes and spout bullshit again in type on here.

The way I feel is completely in tune with many, many fans who've walked away from football recently.

Well why don't you bloody well join them and do us all a favour!

Soton, I've no problem with your opinion of me whatsoever.
The reality is that posters tend to get upset because I'm right and they don't like what that says about certain players or the management of the club when that reality dawns.
That's life. No-one likes a smart arse. And they really don't like them when they're right.

If anyone throws enough shit at something len, some of it is bound to stick at some point. You certainly throw enough of it.

You (lenners) may be correct about one thing, but it's not that you are smart. It is also true that most don't bother to engage, which is a good thing. I admire what Linz and Foxy have built here, as true fans, and accept that being open and true fans it creates a forum for the others who have their own needs to satisfy. For me, I only read "lenners" posts by accident - usually stopping half-way through when I realise where I am. I hope Sotonblade stays with us as he's a fan and I appreciate balance. UTB!!

You post and sound like that Arrogant young idiot on the 606/Bladesmad board, what's his name again?.............

Ahhhh, that's it: GC or Gannonshoelace from thecrossedblades(which is why you was banned, for being a provocative nuisense who simply couldn't debate an argument, you had to be right regardless of anyone elses views)

Lenners = GC/GC88/Gannonshoelace

KMc being at the game yesterday was the only negative for me as he will now think speed doesn't need any fresh faces.

KMc being at the game yesterday was the only negative for me as he will now think speed doesn't need any fresh faces.

Why's that? KMc will have seen us struggling for most of the game and knows for a fact that we need new faces. A hard fought win yesterday doesn't change a thing IMO.

He might be better in property, but I very much doubt that KevMc is as clueless about football as some would make out...

Gentlemen

If the name calling does not immediately cease, this thread will be locked.

Just because we've been away for the weekend does not mean we won't deal with things on our return.
