The way I feel is completely in tune with many, many fans who've walked away from football recently.
I still enjoy the social side of going to games but have no illusions about how the game is run, who runs it, how wrong it is that players like Evans are made for life for doing nothing (costing more than an entire year's season ticket proceeds in the process), how fans are duped and how even fans now often see the success of clubs in terms of £ signs and that is all that counts.
Glad you said 'walked away from football' rather than walked away from United. There's a malaise around the game that isn't exclusive to United. I've just had a text from a massive pig fan who says he's sick of the soap opera and might watch Handsworth for a while. It's unthinkable that he wouldn't be at the sty or wherever wednesday were playing every week but he's close to having had enough.
I think the wider context of fans falling out of love with the game is important to bear in mind when so many are whinging about the Blades and saying how they feel about the club is changing/has changed. It isn't just an SUFC problem.
Murdoch, Richards, Scudamore etc etc have a lot to answer for. I think a few more years of decline might bring about change and see the fans reclaim the game and follow the German model a bit more closely. Vive la revolution!
