McCabe has to go

You clearly have no idea if you honk the parachute payments at that time covered the losses. McCabe invested heavily. It's a matter of public record but let's ignore that.

I think Wilder is well aware of his budget and won't bleat about making these financially unrealistic signings like some on here. Of course he'd like more, but he understands there's a limit.

Some people seem to be pushing the idea that Wilder is/has been misled by the board over transfers just like apparently we were supposedly fucking him over with his new contract.

That's one suggestion. The other is that Wilder simply lies on the boards behalf.

The version of events on deadline day, including the video, were all a put up job, a puff piece to show the club in a good light. Apparently, although you'd have to be mentally ill to dream that one up.

Does it make it true that the Egan bid was actually placed, just because it was "reported everywhere"? I saw it on sky news as a report...............but it was never mentioned on the video or transcript from the deadline day, so it might be a tad premature to take as gospel that you can't "deny a minimum of 2m was available".

ok but we bid for coady etc, showing 2m minimum was available, so im guessing he still had that available. plus it was reported everywhere, not just on a dodgy website

If we are to get anywhere in the next few years McCabe has to sell up along with the fake sheikh.

This window was the perfect opportunity to show a bit of ambition. Nothing crazy just the opportunity to back wilder and see what he can do with a bit of sensible investment. Considering we've received 6/7 million in sales.

And we have spent nothing we've made a profit of 4/5 million. McCabe please leave
Hmmm...

But the video was only 9 minutes out of a day starting at 07.30 and lasting until 23.00 which was supposed to be about the behind the scenes difficulties on Deadline Day.
Other than the size of the bid, obviously of interest to Blades, what does a bid made and then rejected in a routine non-take-the-piss way add to the enjoyment?
Because i don't believe the video / story was made to be a bit of sensationalism and was about just recording what the last day of the tranfser window was like........hence a bid being made and rejected, especially of that reported value would have been well worth recording and being showed as much as all the other deals / non deals covered.

I wonder how many of our fans are going to disappear if a multi billionaire owner comes in and starts signing Europe's top quality players, pays agents what they want and someone who get's the job done without making a film about where and how we failed on transfer deadline day, with no voice on the other end of the phone and no footage of Sinclair waiting in Sheffield Train Station (strange that)
If you were our chairman

There is an alternative of a porcine nature.

http://www.transferleague.co.uk/cha...r-league-tables/championship-last-five-season

list here of teams thats spunked small fortunes trying to get out of the championship
showing theres no correlation between spending a bundle and getting success

it reckons wednesday have spent 27 million in the last 5 years to be below us now
This table only tells half the story though. It is not just money spent on transfer fees but the wages that the players demand and agents fees.

Why would you bother pursuing bids on deadline day that had already been knocked back? It's a busy enough time without messing around with non-starters.
(Not sure about Egan but if we had Coady I wouldn't want him to go for less than £5m)

Without watching it again weren't the targets for the day identified by their initials on the board? Early on. It's not a big leap of faith from there to accept that the other targets had all come to nothing.

McCabe has made many mistakes, the worst probably being the appointment of Robson, but over the years the one thing he has got right is the pricing.

In the last 10 years the big population movement has been to inner city living and big student complexes.

Bramall Lane is ideally located to take advantage of this, but the pricing also needs to be right to attract students and professionals who have recently moved to the city centre. Unlike our neighbours, I think this is an area we've excelled and whilst I think our overall fan base is still behind theirs, in recent seasons the gap has closed considerably,

Give McCabe some credit, because 30+ years ago when I was watching United in the old 3rd division I didn't think I'd see a crowd of 25,000 again, never mind an average crowd of 25,000.

McCabe has made some poor footballing decisions, but credit where it's due, he's got the pricing right to attract the new supporters to Sheffield and that will place us in good stead for the future,

Regards

Doom
What gap?

And also the line other clubs need to get a replacement before selling only applies to other clubs.

Murphy McDonald Blackman Beattie etc were all sold without replacing them before hand or even afterwards!
That was then. Now, even Hanson wasn't sold because we have injury problems and no replacement.

I don't agree with everything Wisewblade89 says, but he deserves better than to be called a Pig. He's clearly a Blades fan. People who throw insults around do themselves no credit and make it look like they don't have a real counter argument.

The counter argument has been put time after time after time. Yet the agenda goes on. There comes a point, once you've put a coherent, cogent case hundreds of times and the same tiresome, prejudiced, fabricated, malicious drivel keeps coming back that you simply have to use the shorthand and label it exactly what it is. Ill-informed, ignorant non-Blade (and certainly not wise) bollocks.

Why is he 'clearly a Blades fan'? I'm very reluctant to call people pigs but this thread is classic wind up material. The simple fact is we could be better off with new owners. Or we may not be. It depends. So there is no argument or counter argument that isn't based on speculation and conjecture. I've been on message boards reading shite from the likes of Len and BM's Curtis to know a wind up when I see one.

I'm only mentioning deadline day as it was on this day that sky reported we had made a bid for Egan and it was turned down.
I'm not saying we did or didn't make a bid for him......i'm just fed up of people posting stuff as fact all the time without actually having facts.

Yes, they were identified by initials on the whiteboard, i think they then identified who they were.....again, i've not re-watched it again myself.
As i've said in post #351 though, I don't really care whether we made a £2 mill bid for a player or not......it's just the constant quoting of stuff as being fact...just cos sky sports reported it as their understanding, doesn't make it a reality.

Come to think of it, I don't think Wilder has even been asked about this supposed approach for Egan in any of the interviews post deadline day.............so maybe it never happened, though he does mention that Henighan was bought after a change of target, so obviously another CH had been discussed previously.

I've just read some of his stuff again. I still think he's a Blade.

And even if he isn't, I still think people who call him a Pig sound like they have no better argument.

...back to the OP, I'm sure McCabe would like to go, he's hinted as much since our relegation from the Championship.

it's simply that if he were to leave right now he'd have no/little chance of receiving much of the money his companies have spunked into the club over the years....hence 'the club has to stand on its own two feet' statements.

Maybe we're seeing this, or something close to this deal now?

Some are fine with that, some are not..but as Wilder stated recently, McCabe/Princey are mearly guardians of the club...they won't be around for ever.

The argument what I'm saying is we've clearly not spent as much money as we should have when you take in the fact we've received what 6/7 million from walker and maguire.
Even when McCabe said we'd have a top half budget , we haven't.
It's not just fees out wage structure needs changing will O'Connell , fleck stay if they have a good season this year and the teams with a bigger budget come sniffing round who can offer bigger wages and fees.

I'm not a pig and I'm not suggesting we chick millions at it like Wendy but if we are to become an ambitious championship team either McCabe and the prince need to stump up or look for someone willing to invest in the championship.
And I'd say there is way way more succes stories for teams looking to invest than their is portsmouths.

Possibly the only time most would agree re the ownership is if a blades fan worth a hell of a lot more than KM were to buy the club out, little bit like Gibson at Middlesbrough, not heard of anybody myself so stick with what we've got and get behind them, have to say this topic is becoming boring ( even if I have just posted a comment) :-)
