Mcburnie

Mcburnie did well when he came on because he looked like a semi experienced striker with a bit of nous about him, which we don't currently have.

Let's not get carried away though, he looked like that because our other options have been two 20 year olds who haven't really played at anything close to this level before.

Changed the game. We looked more effective. Did 3 or 4 good bits of work today including a defensive header, chested the ball to our own player and almost put Benni through.

Impressive stuff.

UTB

How about that ball to Anel? Did you enjoy that one pal?

He was very good when he came on today, fairs fair. Truth is he's not very good which highlights how weak our attacking options are or were pre the Archer signing.

Get a life FFS. This anti Mcburnie obsession is embarrassing
i know weve had our differences 87 about mcburnie but have to say he made a big difference today and as much as anybody helped us get back level his cross for anels chance was great really hope he proves me wrong and helps us stay up this season

Why we couldn't organise this Archer deal before we sold Ndiaye I don't know.
We'd then have been able to do the Akpom deal as you suggest.
Instead we lost Ndiaye, waited a few weeks, then tried to tickle Villa with a £8m offer.

Looks like Balde is the Akpom alternative. Not blown away by rhe highlights package but he'll improve our options.
No guarantees we would have got him at that point tbf, even after alleged interest from Leeds and Boro he was still making bench, wasn’t until they signed that Italian striker did things seem to move

You don’t see him as a 9 with Archer as the 10?

Definitely not.

Archer plays high up the field, runs the channels, finishes the chances. He isn't the second coming of Ndiaye, he's different to anything we've had for a while (more Billy Sharp than anything else).

McBurnie is actually pretty good at dropping deep and linking the play.

I'd hate to see us try and do it the other way around because it would result in us lumping it up to McBurnie and going for a traditional big man / little man partnership with Archer trying to chase second balls etc.

I hate to say it, he changed the way we played when he came on.
Can't knock it, and I'm one of his biggest critics.
me anall gav but he did well today just playing off the main striker is his best position linking the play

Probably depends what type of match we get roped into. Against your Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd etc where we won’t see much of the ball we might have to do the small man/big man combo. I think now with Archer and maybe a McAtee we could start dominating the ball against the likes of Luton, Everton, Forest at home. PH is very pragmatic and won’t play a system that won’t work against better teams just because he’s set in his ways, contrast to wilders second season who wouldn’t change his tactics even when we’d been found out.

Did everything that Osula did, but better. His headers went to team mates and actually held up the ball. That has nothing to do with Osula being 20, but everything to do with McBurnie being a better player.

I hold my hands up, not a fan of McBurnie but he changed the game when he came on. Let's see what he can do rest of the season.

With fans like these, who needs enemies 😂.
Like many on here you appear to have been suckered in to accepting mediocrity. We need better players than Mcburnie to improve as a whole. As I said he did well when he came on yesterday other than being unable to hit the target with a free header.

I just don’t resent it when one of our players does well or feel the need to declare they’re not very good immediately after saying they’ve had a good game.

We will never dominate the ball in the prem - we are miles away

It's just an opinion based on watching him for 3 seasons. I'm not blaming him, I just think we need better.

Aye
Why do you “hate to say” that a player from the team you (purport to) support made a positive contribution?
How many of his goals last season did you “hate to” celebrate ?

Disagree. His header wasn’t “free” and everything that he did, against top players, was excellent.
If he can do that against this team then hopefully we can get somewhere against the others.
My concern is whether we are better using him against tiring defenders rather than from the start.

Having to deal with McBurnie when he’s on song means defenders will tire more quickly. Perfect for Traore & Osula to come on & murder them with pace once they have tired.
