McBurnie

If we're going to play that way when he's on the pitch - yes. But is that his fault?

His strengths are in his link up and drifting between the lines. He's not a bad goalscorer either as his record will show, just lacking confidence as is to be expected. As you saw on Sunday as he set up our best chance, and as you saw against WBA when his introduction changed the game.
I've never believed it's his fault, but it's not going to change - we've seen it enough times now. Playing McGoldrick (or Duffy etc.) behind him may change it, as that would encourage more link up play. That's what changed the game against West Brom, not anything McBurnie actually did with the ball, he had exactly 50% pass completion in that game. Unfortunately though, Wilder doesn't seem to want to go down that route.

We have nothing to lose now, we may aswell go back to a roaming midfielder/forward and play Didzy behind a front two of any two strikers, take a midfielder out the side and finally put one on the bench, we can’t achieve anymore shitness than we’ve witnessed this season.

I agree and don't agree at the same time.

McGoldrick's goal return compared to what it should've been last year doesn't put him aside for me, he hasn't consistently been good enough in that whole period either.
So that means NONE of our strikers have been good enough. That tells me the issue might just lay elsewhere... which I believe it does.
I did say possibly 😉
Good post and i agree with most of it, I don’t however agree that McB is excellent in the air, i think he’s a lot better with the ball at his feet and actually a lot better than a lot give him credit for with the ball at his feet, the problem is we barely get to see it.

He’s better in our box with his heading than he is the oppositions, that i will say but it’s really poor tactics that we will probably never see the best of him on a more consistent basis.

You can see why a lot of fans think he’s shit though and its hard to debate it when we see how he’s played.
100% McB is a better footballer than everyone gives him credit for. On aerial ability, there are games when he has dominated defenders (Chelsea last year) and whilst I don't think it's the most effective way of playing him, it's definitely a string to his bow when used sparingly or in a more considered way

For him to be excellent in the air I’d expect more than one or two good performances from him though, especially given how many balls are hopelessly or needlessly aimed towards McB. They can’t all be bad balls to him which says to me that he needs the ball to feet more with how many good games he’s had when we play the long ball shite.

Exactly. I think the fact that booting Duffy out and putting Lundstram in worked so well for four months, has actually handicapped us in the long run. The management now seem to think it's the only way to play in the Prem, and we've ended up becoming a negative, poor to watch team.

You dispute that McB has the worse outfield stats in this pass completion area in the ENTIRE PL for outfield players and you claim Sharp is worse.

Not only has the spoon fucked off, but the knife and fork have done one an all !!!

I've just provided you evidence.

It's your decision to ignore it (hardly a surprise).

Possibly McG aside, NONE of our forwards have been consistently good enough over the last 18 months. Even at our best we are a team who don't create much, but at our worst all our forwards are fighting a losing battle - the odd game here and there we can get complete performances from any individuals - but rarely.

On top of this Wilder doesnt seem to know his best partnership, as with individuals we have seen glimpses of partnerships but nothing consistent

As much as i love Billy, those saying he is the answer are a bit rose tinted.
No disrespect to Billy, but unfortunately no single striker is the answer. Until we start being comfortable in possession, being adventurous and taking chances with balls in and around the box we won't create enough to score consistently. There's a tendency to focus on individuals (particularly strikers), and therefore often overlooked that it's a team game and we need the whole lot to be playing well and contributing going forward - this hasnt happened for a while.

For what it's worth all of our strikers have plus points and downsides...

McG - Excellent link player, not an out and our goal scorer
McB - Can be excellent in the air, much more effective when we don't simply twat it upfield
Mousset - incredibly talented, but lacks application and permanently unfit
Burke - rapid and stretches defenses, finishing ability of a blind dog
Sharp - knack of finding the net, can offer very little aside from this
Brewster - glimpses of ability, raw and unproven at top level

We know there is a big gulf in class and questions remain as to whether they are good enough for Premier League, but I'd guess near enough every team in the Championship would swap their forward line for the above.
I'm a tad confused. Billy has a knack of scoring but offers little else ?
Others, offer little else ,nor largely, ..... can they find the net.
Isn't that what we need Billy to do?

We didn't just lump it up to him last season we played some brilliant football and mcburnie was still wank. He's crap everybody has different views I get that but for me, he's no good a total waste of money. I didn't like him last season and I don't this a couple of Bradford fans I know couldn't believe we signed him for 20m they couldn't believe he's made it as a player after watching him at there place.
No disrespect to Wilder but why let Mcburnie just walk back in, after all we've played better without him. I just knew how it was going to be against Chelsea when I saw team sheet, big kick from rambo to Mcburnie and just giving ball away and why Wilder doesn't noticed that is just crazy. All you get from Mcburnie is a lazy jog and he jumps and that's about it. I think playing Brewster more will help get the best out of him the more confident he'll be and I'm sure goals will come..

agreed and i disagree with lots of posters on here who say mcburnie wins everything in the air he doesnt and when he does the ball goes aimlessly up in the air while not being a mcburnie fan we are playing the wrong tactics for getting the best out of him but unfortunately he looks no threat whatsoever in front of goal in the premier league championship is his level

Mcburnie is simply not good enough for us, he’s a Sunday league player. He can’t run can’t control a ball, he’s the worst forward ever to play for the Blades. God knows what Chris Wilder sees in him but we’re going nowhere with him playing, bite the bullet Chris & get rid he really is embarrassing.

He needs to improve no doubt, and in terms of value for money you might well be correct.

But anyone who had the fortune of seeing Laurent Ten Heauvel play might disagree with worst ever.

He's so far away from being the worst forward to play for us it's utterly ridiculous.

Please tell me you're on the wind up.

I'm all for opinions and I think a few on here too easily get their knickers in a twist over criticism of our players, but tbh your comment is up there with the most ludicrous I've ever read on here.

He’s not bad in the air when defending and attacking the ball to clear, certainly more so than with his back to goal and the ball dropping from a great height. Maybe the answer is to get the ball whipped in early to him (and Sharp) when the make their initial runs?

Yes, you do see our strikers evidently get fed up when they make a run and the ball doesn’t get delivered, although i think it’s been less of a problem this season as we haven’t got into those positions as much as last season.

Bill yes McBurnie has not set world on fire, against Chelsea he put the ball on a plate for Burke and he fucked up, as for worst forward did you never see Chris Guthrie or Alan Young to name 2.

Mcburnie set up two good chances from memory and he also closed down well at times but he looked completely knackered after an hour.

He wants to play and hes not match fit but is determined to not get taken off and help his team mates.

Hes had some games where hes struggled but Im convinced him and all the new signings will come good.

He shared this earlier, on his Instagram stories. I remember this goal against the pigs and thinking he looks a player!

If only he'd do this more often!

I remember thinking they'd got themselves a skilled, dribbling CAM 😱

I think back in the Championship playing for us and flowing with confidence we'd see McBurnie score goals like that more oftn, but in the PL teams sit deep, there's no space, even the better teams defend in numbers and considering we're one of the crapper sides who only create a handful of chances per game you get one, maybe two chances to score at this level, one bad touch and it's gone, like what happens to Burke and Bogle at times. Bogle will be an excellant player and Burke no doubt a threat in the league below, as he as been at times in the PL, but the difference between the PL and the Championship gets wider every year. I predict next season all three promoted sides will be straight back down, bar Aston Villa like spnding and they had Grealish also and even then only just stayed up before spending another £70m and more importantly huge wages. I digress but it's nt McBurnie who's got worse, it's just a totally different game in the Championship. So many teams just seem to be ordinary and "are there for the taking" it's almost a case of who makes a mistake first wins. Take the defending from Wycombe v Wednesday for their goals, it was horendous.

I agree, the problem we have is that our midfield can’t get up in support quickly enough and McBurnie just isn’t as technically gifted as someone like McGoldrick to hold the ball up.

My gripe cannot be with McBurnie but more that we should expect him to do something he just isn’t suited to.
..
Like scoring a goal occasionally.
Striker stuff.

I didnt think Young was that bad...just injury prone like Finneston. Neither were anywhere near as bad a Messrs Guthrie, Wilson,Thomas or Sammon

Best is Guthrie scored hat trick on debut, and went backwards
