McBurnie - Accused of stomping on a Forest fan

Having watched it a few times now it looks to me like he actually restrains himself, I think he goes to kick him then realises last second and doesn’t follow through

Purely from a footballing view I can't wait to get rid been crap from day 1 apart from odd of game. For 20k a week we could do a lot lot better.

Glad that's sorted and we are back to kidney punching animals, I was getting a bit dizzy up on that high moral ground. As a fan base we are not used to being the paragons of virtue, well done Oli for restoring the status quo

Forest fans all over this on Twitter tagging in the EFL and Notts Police.

And too thick to realise that even the edited clip shows he was reacting to one of his team mates being got at by a Forest prick.

I'm not a McBurnie fan and I've made no secret of that, but from what I've heard from people who were there (forest fans), this was absolutely not his fault.

Two injured players, one who's only 25 and one who's only 22, protecting themselves and each other against a baying mob of thugs.

Both nursing long term injuries as it is, they could have genuinely had their careers ended by those dickheads last night. Heartbreaking for the players and a potential financial nightmare for the club (see : JoC for an example).

Fair play to defend yourselves in that situation.

I'm aware it looks like the fan is on the floor, but I've been told that the fella apparently slipped over trying to fight Brewster and McB, so I'd argue that making sure he stays down is perfectly excusable in this instance.

It's what they teach kids at martial arts classes...if you put someone down, make sure they stay down before you turn your back

Yes, and managed not to hit anyone. I'm not saying you don't have to protect yourself, but so many people react straight away with violence.

It's usually a natural reaction for many when people are trying manhandle you.

Looks like his foot was caught underneath the guy that ‘fell’ down in front of him. Bearing in mind he’s got a massive boot on it, he seems to be moving his foot to get it out from under the weight.

No don't be silly.

It had to be a vicious stamp. It's fits the story for what many are looking for.

Watched it a few times and to be fair, I personally don't see a "Stamp" just a couple of highly paid, footballers attempting to protect themselves and their injuries from being jostled, barged and generally pushed around that from their view could cause more damage and more time injured.
Would anyone react differently in a very hostile and as seen earlier violent opposition fans?

Seems a few on here would wave a white handkerchief and beg not to be hit

Plenty of provocation, just seen Billy get butted and no doubt other things kicking off as well but can't condone that whatsoever....not sure it was a "stamp" but either way he needs the book throwing at him just as much as their fan does....
It's difficult isn't it. We don't see the stuff that causes the reaction.
Some on twitter are saying he was protecting Brewster.

Part of me thinks they shouldve had a plan to leg it down the tunnel as soon as game is over.
Other part of me thinks they shouldn't be targeted by fans of rival clubs.
It's happened loads this season alone. Don't know if it's because we had 2 years away from grounds and that's dragged loads of dickheads back or what.

Colin Murray was spot on last night. Points deductions for pitch invasions or it carries on

EDIT - you can see brewster involved right at start of clip

Sky now got it on the ticker tape with no context

Im sorry but no. Just no.

I'm probably one of this guys biggest critics when it comes to football but this is just pathetic. Show me a full clip and I'll happily change my mind if needed.

Let's for a second just say he did it. What in the actual fuck would you expect them to do? They're literally being attacked by fans that have wrongfully invaded the pitch and started assaulting. We can spout as much as we like about "he was on the floor" or "it doesn't matter, he's a professional he shouldn't react" all of that sensible stuff goes completely out the window and your instincts kick in. I know it's not quite the law but if you invade a space you shouldn't, attack someone who's doing nothing and end up getting decked, well, in future make better choices.

I'm not saying it's by any means comparable but if you haven't, some of you need to look up when this happened in the NBA in Detroit. There's a doc somewhere that instead of telling the players they're scum actually asks them and they say how terrifying it is to have a crowd of angry people descend on you. Basically your fight of flight takes over.

I'm more than happy for any of our players that did something to have repercussions no matter who it is, personally I'd wager everything they did will have been self defence. The sad thing about all of this is the scummy Forest fans have tarnished the majority of their good fans. They've also completely over shadowed an incredible night of football and the achievements of their team.

Hasn’t he also got like a massive leg brace on or something? I’m sure when he ran on in the PH melee earlier he did.

What a stupid end to the game for all involved.

Think we need to put this into context.

Forest as a club have duty of care of playing staff and club officials in the ground and especially where they interface with the fans. Seems to be there was little in the form of stewards throwing a cordon round our players as the final whistle went and to me Sharp, McBurnie and the rest were simply watching the pitch to see our players get through their crowd safely. If their staff can't cope - or more likely they aren't trained correctly and are simply joining in with the celebrations and standing by whilst assaults are taking place, you can't blame players for defending themselves. They've gone there to play football or at least be part of the squad, injured or otherwise. They haven't gone there to fight.

I have never been a massive fan of McBurnie. I have stated I find him frustratingly lacking as a player (in our colours) and his off field conduct borders on juvenile and grossly unprofessional. But we need to hold our horses before we judge him on this. There were greater felonies being committed after the final whistle last night which didn't involve him and Nottingham Forest FC are responsible for preventing those. They failed, and failed badly.

I actually can't tell what is going on from that clip. Looks like he falls forward more than anything, and then trampled him, rather than stamping on him.

No McBurnie fan, but this doesn’t really look like a stamp to me. The players just seem to be defending themselves against the pricks (who shouldn’t be on the pitch) that were on the pitch attacking players (who should be there).

I'd say it's pretty clear if you actually watch the video that he hasn't stamped on him at all but, as per usual, there are loads of Blades fans on here who can't wait to side against the Blades player.

What remarkable luck you've had sir Iv also found that being the bigger man and not resorting to violence works! They soon get bored of kicking you when your unconscious
As someone who is 6ft plus and 17 stone I get a lot of hostility but oddly if you ignore it and walk away it almost always goes away. Like fucking magic.

And from the Billy clip you can see some of our players being helped off by stewards and police (I’ve also heard Forest players helping our players off but not seen it)

Problem is that we had Wes and Gibbs-White in their area, the rest of the team on Halfway when that last pen was saved. By the time their players had a pile on in the 6 yard box there were already fans on the pitch

It looked like Billy, Jebbo, and a number of others in the technical area were all waiting for the rest of the team to get back before they went down the tunnel. No player should think they are at risk at that point.

It clearly got nasty with Billy being laid out, not sure if he was knocked out and I’d guess the next thought of those players still out there was to get everyone off safely.

I’m sure we’ll see or hear the results of what actually went off either side of that 8 second Twitter video

This whole thing is a right mess.

It doesn't condone McBurnie's response at all, but they're surrounded by Forest fans goading them and ragging them about. I guess they can only be pushed so far before they retaliate. I don't know why the squad weren't off the pitch immediately, and it wasn't stewarded well, at all - not that it's easy to stop the capacity of a stadium from spilling onto the pitch...

So you’d just stand their and get pushed about and jostled ? The players didn’t go to the fans the fans went to the players they have every right to protect themselves in the circumstances

I don't know about you, but I'd have been straight down the tunnel when the Forest fans came on the pitch. Why on earth would you hang about and wait to get some shit, because any ground int eh country and you'd get shit. Including ours.
