Despite yesterday insisting our survival in the Championship was a lost cause, I have started to wonder whether such crazy and unthinkable scenarios might not be out of the question. Realistically, we are as good as down but having looked at the remaining fixtures for Donny and Palace things might not be as conclusive as they seem.....

Blades
(H) Barnsley (it’s a derby game but I fancy United to win this)
(A) Swansea (tough fixture, but now they’re safely in the playoffs I expect they will rest players)

Donny
(H) Leicester (nothing to play for but no pressure either and a lot of quality)
(A) Boro (will want to finish well at home)

Palace
(A) Hull (still have a chance of the playoffs and have some quality)
(H) Forest (have a great chance of the playoffs but not safe)

It isn’t totally inconceivable to see United still having a chance at Swansea. Given their records over the course of the season it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see one of either Donny or Palace lose both of their remaining games. The more unlikely event would be that United win both of theirs and that’s where it becomes doubtful to me.....but you never know. I could see United beating Barnsley at home given that we’ve just won two in a row and confidence will be on the up.

I expect the Blades will still be in with a very slim chance on the last day but will still go down. We’ll at least have a bit of excitement for longer though and if one of Donny or Palace gets soundly beaten on Saturday bums will start twitching. All the Blades can do is do their bit and beat Barnsley.....just keep battering away at it.

Predicting Saturday’s results I would go for:-
Blades 2-1 Barnsley
Donny 1-2 Leicester
Hull 2-0 Palace

League Table would look like this:-

20 Crystal Palace (P)45 (GD)-24 (PTS)47
21 Doncaster Rovers (P)45 (GD)-24 (PTS)47
---------------------------
22 Sheffield United (P)45 (GD)-30 (PTS)44

Makes me just think that it will bridge too far.....but what does everyone else think. How do you expect results will go?

To have even the slightest chance we have to beat Barnsley by more than 1 goal, realistically it needs to be 3 or 4.

Blades 3-1 Barnsley
Donny 1-4 Leicester
Hull 1-0 Palarse

20 Crystal Palace 45 -23 47
21 Doncaster Rovers 45 -26 47
---------------------------
22 Sheffield United 45 -29 44

2.30pm, Saturday May 7th..........injury time with Doncaster 3-0 down away at Boro and Sheffield United drawing 1-1 at Swansea, Sheffield United substitute Danny Philliskirk is brought down in the area and..............the ref points to the spot............

Henderson steps up and.....................................

either that or we'll lose on Satdi :)

How much would it cost to bribe the Dingles to ship 6? Cheaper than the cost of relegation i wager ;)

DPredicting Saturday’s results I would go for:-
Blades 5-1 Barnsley
Donny 1-2 Leicester
Hull 2-0 Palace

League Table would look like this:-

20 Crystal Palace (P)45 (GD)-24 (PTS)47
21 Doncaster Rovers (P)45 (GD)-24 (PTS)47
---------------------------
22 Sheffield United (P)45 (GD)-27 (PTS)44

We'd need to really batter Barnsley to go into the final day with anything more than an outside chance. However, if we tear into them for the first 30 minutes and go 2 or 3 up, who knows what might happen?

I've left Barnsley's one goal in as Marlon Harewood is odds-on to score. Probably from 40 yards.

All very unlikely.

However if the FA decide to really make an example of QPR and relegate them 2 divisions (i.e. putting them in L1) we need to ensure that it is us that benefits, amnd that means finishing 3rd from bottom.

Nah, they would just knock QPR back to the Championship and reinstate West Ham to the Prem.

All expenses paid night in an Etap with a family member of their choice :)

As for the results, I can see Leicester getting a fair few goals. Also with Palace's shocking away form, I can see them shipping a few. However I don't rate our chances of getting a few goals to push us closer.

But the treble this weekend of, United, Forest and Hull will be put on :)

Let's not forget one of the long standing unwritten rules of football - if it is possible for Sheffield United to get relegated on the last day of the season - however likely or unlikely -then they shall.

i agree with you steel city,i think it is a bridge too far, but it would be good if they could turn it around and give us something to be proud of, after all the let downs we have endured with the play off finals

Donny
(H) Leicester (nothing to play for but no pressure either and a lot of quality)

As I said in the other thread, Leicester could still mathematically make the play offs. With two games to go they are six points off the play offs and must make up a goal difference of nine. Very unlikely but you would expect them to go for goals too, they have nothing to lose.

We could skank it like that and stay up.

Would we deserve to stay up though? In my opinion no.

Its not like the PL season where we were very unlucky.

Its a very easy team talk saturday for micky adams it will go something like, "everybody knows we are as good as down, but this is the last home game and the fans have turned out in there thousands as always now go out and give barnsley a spanking and take things to the last day".

The game finishes 5-0 to the blades and palace and donny both lose 2 nil, everyone floods to the ticket office and we take thousands to Swansea needing something like a 2 nil win.

Blades 3-1 Barnsley
Donny 1-4 Leicester
Hull 1-0 Palarse

Was talking to Kenilworth Junior yesterday evening about the game at Swansea (he thinks they are crap btw - which staggers me). If the Webbed fingered Canary boys win Satdi and we do the Dingle Dance by three or more I expect Swansea could rest some of their brightest talent on the last day of the season to prepare for the play offs. We may then have a sniff - if we can get the ball off them, that is.

I hadn't a prayer left for the match at the Mad Stad so you never, ever know.

@Bladesman - If we do escape then we will absolutely deserve it - the table will prove it.
By the same token if we go down then we will have reaped what we have sewn.

The likely scenario will be that we have to beat the Swans by 4 or more and we may scrape a draw while Palace and Donny will probably both get draws in their final game as well.

At least the corpse is twitching!

They're hardly crap but I think he has a point in where he's coming from. Teams like Swansea and QPR are hailed as good sides when what they actually are is average. They look better than most of a division that contains utter dross. Most of the sides in this league are crap and because a few sides at the top can pass the ball a bit better it qualifies them as world beaters in the eyes of fans and the media.

I saw Swansea at Bramall Lane and to me they're no big shakes. United scored a route one goal and then comfortably saw the game out despite Swansea's best efforts. If you want to watch some neat, pretty stuff then yeh they're watchable. But doing well in this division is no measure of a good football team. Doing badly in it however is a very good measure of being shite.

We'll hammer Barnsley 4-0 and Donny will lose to Leicester by the same score, meaning a 1-0 win for us against Swansea and a 1-0 defeat for Donny against Boro would mean us staying up. We'll get the 1-0 win and Donny will be losing 1-0. Right up until stoppage time when Donny get an equaliser.

There is as much chance of the right combination of results to keep us up as I have have of pulling Kylie Minogue

I just can't keep you outta my head

Tra la la, la la la, la la la .............

Think of the pertness SC and believe.

No, excruciating last day relegations only happen to United every 13 years. The 13 year hitch as Darren used to call it.

Any relegations in between get sorted out before the final day, and it's only 4 years since the last final day of the season shoot out.

..... with our game already finished!

If we were in Palaces position we would still be doomed ...... and you know it

If we were in Palaces position we would still be doomed ...... and you know it

haha true.

We have no faith at all in relegation fights.

Although had this "fight" been a boxing match we must of got knocked out after the first 10 seconds of the round.

Too much ........... they'll refuse to deal with us if they think we are indulging in witchcraft!!!

Has anyone broken it to them that Gary Sinclair uses a microphone and he's not a wizard?

its not as far fetched as we may think...
we win both our games 2-0, Donny lose 3-0 and 2-0........is it so crazy..how did Donny do in theri game v leicester earlier this season??? check it out..you never know...
yes, i know, i am dreaming but why not!!

I genuinely think it will go down to the final day, I can see us hitting the Dingles for 3 or 4 and Donny WILL lose at home to Leicester.....

How ironic would that be if Donny, with the manager nearly everyone wanted earlier in the season (including me), are relegated instead of us. Sounds like a good story waiting to be written.
