You can analyse this is many ways. Post lockdown were the 13th best side in the league. That was with no fans and it seemingly is looking that way.
So playing with no fans is a factor despite us beating Wolves, Tottenham and Chelsea, but the fact we had little to play for post Leicester isn’t given any relevance?
We had a man sent off against Newcastle and a goal disallowed against Villa and despite all that we were the 13th best you say? So that would leave us comfortably safe next season?

Some of those teams outperformed us post lockdown. Anchelotti being in and spending on players like James Rodriguez (the rumour) you would expect them to push forward

AV are in for everyone one of our players it seems.
We’re also being linked with many players but those presumably do not count?
For us to go down we need those teams listed plus those promoted to improve significantly
and they’ve signed no one, so you are obviously expecting our performances to drop off a cliff?
Im merely asking where the logic lies behind this.

We get one injury to a key player we can drop quickly as we don’t have the squad to not massively reduce quality.
We had injuries to two very key players during lockdown, (plus one of the main replacement for one of those) and yet managed to average 13th place according to your own stats?
Again, I’m just trying to follow the logic in your opinion.
We played a youngster CM at RWB in our first friendly. That shows you everything abkut our squad depth.
Isn’t that pretty much standard in preseason?

Don't forget next season, the 13th best team will be relegated 🤦🏻‍♂️

I wouldn't say it was standard as such, I think if we had a more bulkier squad we wouldn't be seeing them, however I do think it highlights where we're looking to sign fresh blood. Happy to have RND as a back up for Stevens.

Ignoring the fact they'll offer him stupid money too. Which if I'm honest, I'm glad we aren't doing.
But what detrimental effect does it have on our players IF they are on significantly lower wages than every other PL player? We are not going to break the PL model, if you get into the PL you have to pay to stay or spend every season looking over your shoulder. Granted 9th was phenominal but hands up anyone who thinks we can keep doing it or better season after season on the cheap expecting Wilder to perform miricles.

I mean, I'd guess the average footballer would be a bit miffed they're on 20k a week when someone of a lesser quality is on 40k for instance.

You will inevitably get the variation because the going rate for wages evolves with time.

It'll be different now to what it was for a player signing their contract, say, 4 years ago.

Yes correct / one of the advantages/disadvantage of having a wealthy owner .... but agreed if a player is motivated by cash (pardon the pun) firstly then he’s not for us

Which leads us to the ultimate issue... Most if not all footballers are motivated by money.

100 percent agree.
If we're bottom of the wages PL league, and normally that league reflects the real PL,then it truly was a miracle season. What business model did HRH envisage, get promoted but only finance the team for a relegation slot?
Now that we're in 9th, to kick on to the European positions our revised business model could comfortably absorb 3 x£60 pw additions and still not get us off the bottom of the wages league, but might push us on and attract further investors.

To a greater or lesser extent we all are as are footballers but we seem to have assembled a squad that is to the ‘lesser extent’ side ... and let it continue

Maybe we’ve got big investors coming in and the players Villa and Fulham are userping us for are just a smoke screen. Just like the Prince investing it would be the day after the window shuts

Bloodyyy villa paying the asking price for players that we want then paying the going rate for said players wages

Do they not know that cause we saw them first there our players

And now Villa can fuck off.

But, y'know, start a thread on this, and you'll get slated... 😉

I don't think our interest is in his defensive qualities though. I think it's about making that right side of our team more effective in terms of attacking play. Which is something I think we need to do, because most of our play goes down the left. I wouldn't have a clue about his defensive qualities tbh - the only thing I know about him is what I've seen on YouChube with him ripping through teams down the right flank. And I quite liked that. But, if it isn't to be, it isn't to be. There will be others.

Thing is, Baldock is exceptionally good defensively. Playing against some of the best wide players in the world. Sure, his final ball and shooting should be better, but I think fans forget just how solid we are at the back and the role both wingbacks play in that. If you brought Cash in, we might score more but would we concede more as well?

For all the bedwetters, you obviously still don’t realise we have never been in better hands? If CWAK thought Cash was worth £12m he’d have been signed 3 weeks ago, with no fuss. But he wasn’t signed because they rated him at £6m plus £4m in add-ons. A host of clubs were after Ramsdale, including Villa, and where did he end up? 4 years CWAK have been here, yet some of our snowflakes never ever learn, despite the history before their very eyes. I’ll say it again. Save your wrist slitting till October 5th

No need for that final line I’ve got to say.

And the meltdown from us letting a 3rd choice player who made 3 PL starts last season leave the club

While we piss about being beaten to signatures by clubs either just promoted or barely avoiding relegation. Chris Wilder and everyone associated with the club wants growth. As it stands the squad is weaker than it was at the end of last season with pre-season well under way. I completely understand fans being a bit frustrated. Wilder said it himself that he gets impatient! Imagine if he also had no idea who we were going to sign, just like all of us on here. There’s still time but I don’t think it’s ridiculous for fans to be getting a bit edgy.

Have you given up trying to come across as ITK and instead gone for the patronising “I know better than everyone” angle? You can probably try and blag that one a bit better to be fair.

So transparent from one of the main bedwetters,it’s unreal

So what the official news on this...nothings been confirmed;

id be shocked if Wilder let Freeman go without knowing that Cash is in the bag.

Sorry Jay, I don't see why? If we don't want to pay what Forest want for Matty Cash and they don't value Freeman's value as making up the difference to our 6m cash bid (or whatever else we tried) then what are we supposed to do with the Freeman interest from Forest? Be like a petulant child and say "you can't play with my bat, I'm going off to play with someone else? If we thought the deal for Freeman was acceptable from Forest, and presumably we did, then its in everyone's interests that Freeman goes and plays football, he hardly played for us and Wilder must have been ok with him leaving, otherwise he'd still be here.

Seems Forest want £12m plus and presumably we just don't or can't afford it. We get some of the money back from on the original Freeman deal and his wages paid and then if he does well a permanent transfer fee potentially. Freeman gets to play football and we get to use the money on someone who Wilder will hopefully use more or someone to develop.

Wilder is happy, I'm happy.

Not having for a second that he let's Freeman out the door without knowing what's coming in.

Chill.
