Gone Elsewhere Matty Cash

I can see that people think that's a lot for Cash. However how many games did they play for us last season...and it would reduce the wage bill as we'd pay Cash less than the 2 combined salaries. So you could end up with a first team player forn£4m on lower wages in exchange for 2 reserve players not wanted on higher wages.

Reasons its unlikely isn't rating to pull it all together would be a nightmare and can Forest afford Freeman and Robinsons wages and if they can what about FFP.
It would be one extra wage, and the £4m cash would take care of that.

Might not be Robinson... could be a youngster like RND, Parkhouse or Slater (hopefully on loan)? Kean Bryan? Verrips?

Matty Cash isn’t coming in as cover for RCB! 😂😂😂

A certain Chris Basham started life in midfield I think; see earlier snippets on Cash:
  • "RB Leipzig have submitted a £6m offer for the 19-year-old Nottingham Forest midfielder Matty Cash. " (Guardian 4 January 2017)
  • "Nottingham Forest are delighted to announce that midfielder Matty Cash has signed a contract extension with the club. (NFFC Official Site 3 March 2017)
  • "Nottingham Forest midfielder Matty Cash .... will miss the start of the new Championship season." BBC Website 2 August 2017)
  • "Carl Jenkinson has been ruled out of action for a number of weeks and will miss Saturday’s meeting with Swansea as a result. With Jayden Richardson on loan at Exeter and Tendayi Darikwa injured, Sabri Lamouchi may have to turn to Matty Cash at right-back. The 22-year-old operated in the role earlier in the season but isn’t a natural in defence. He’s more comfortable in midfield but Forest have run out of options." (Vital Forest Forum 13 September 2019)
It was just a thought, as I would be surprised we would want to pay that much for cover for GB, who played every minute last season, and is also a few years younger than CB.

if its true this would be very difficult to pull off not least because there would be 3 agents involved.

It could be a good thing all round though. Forrest dont need a whole lot to compete again next season for promotion, Freeman and Robbo would strengthen them no end and the 4 million comfortably covers their wages.

Im a fan of Freeman think hes looked good for us in his limited appearances but if hes not in CWAKs plans then were better getting rid of him at some value.

Id expect Chris is looking at Cash from the perspective that he could fill the RCM void from Lunny aswell as provide strong competition to Baldock for RWB.

Only real concern id have with the player plus cash deal if it happened is it leaves us another senior team body down and we are light enough as it is.

If we are having to wheel and deal like this to get a player like Cash over the line how do we expect to fill out the squad with any kind of Premier League quality ?

I can see a journalist getting his wires crossed
Forest are apparently interested in both of our freemen , one of whom we have released the other valued at around £5 -6 million with the £4 million cash this makes what I consider to be a realistic figure of £9 - 10 million for Cash.
The other freeman is them and their journalistic license

If Robinson goes anywhere it will be the baggies.

I cant see Callum Robinson going anywhere until we get somebody in up front. Can very much see him still with us well into September, probably making the bench. Really cant see him being part of this unless we add at least one striker first, which with the lack of rumours/speculation seems unlikely- but you never know.

Forest are clearly interested in Luke Freeman so it will be him. He’s probably a huge reason we’re in with a shout.

Not sure what Forests goalie situation is, but possibly Simon Moore might be the “other man”. Or possibly a young loanee like RND or Verrips as mentioned- that would simplify things a bit as its not a full transfer.

Won’t be RCB.
RCM, RW, RWB, RB

I think we'll sign one striker and I'd be astonished if Robinson was with us come kick-off. Although you're right the extended window could alter that.

Agree in that I do think we’ll get someone, and I do think he’ll be gone by the deadline. But its just the timescale and I reckon a lot of the activity will take place nearer then end of the window. The good news is that CR seems a decent kid and I’ve no doubt he’ll give his all should we need him in the meantime; doesnt seem the type who’ll sulk or toss it off until he gets a move.

According to various sources Luke Freeman appears to be on £10K per week and Robinson £5K. Nothing astronomical for a top end Championship player...

Given he may get limited time, if in competition with Baldock and would cost us good money. It would make sense for CWAK to target him to play two positions. Forest fans I speak with, think he could be ideal for our RCM, given it requires overlapping the wing back.

I agree. It's not like Wilder hasn't got previous for this with Osborn fitting in both at LWB and LCM.

Agreed. Freeman and Robinson are likely to be fringe players again, and if that means we only have to pay £4m for Cash than I'm not disappointed. Ultimately it's about improving the starting eleven and I think Cash would do that and some. We need more service down both flanks and I think that's a bigger issue than any lack of goals from the centre forwards, because realistically unless we sign a top forward, most of our chances rely on a great cross and build-up rather than someone taking one or two on and then roofing it into the top corner. That'd be nice also of course!

Only issue with Cash in and 2 outgoings is it depletes our thread bare squad by 1 more good body.

This is why I’ve been so surprised by everyone assuming that both players are off – we’re already down on numbers, and generally under Wilder we don’t like making drastic changes. In fact I’m pretty sure he’s commented before on too much change risking losing the team spirit of the overall squad.

The problem with swapping the likes of Freeman for Cash is that we are swapping one top class championship player for another. No guarantee that Cash will immediately bridge the gap. To my mind we keep Robinson, Freeman and then add someone like Cash.

If the value of top championship players is now £10m to £15m then it costs us £3m to £5m a season over a 3 year contract, and that is the price we need to be investing on 2 or 3 of our targets. Then fill the other squad places with a couple of loans, or a Rodwell type.

Really hope we get this lad.
He seems loyal to his club (his dad even reassured fans he would try and convince him to stay) but he seems like a proper Wilder type player.

Has to be a realism here.

Defenders are not worth more than match winning midfielders or forwards.

The age of the player can be a leveller all the same given the potential.

But if Brooks was only worth 12m as an unproven Premiership midfielder then I’m struggling to see why Cash is worth more.

I certainly wouldn’t be offering 2 players.

Robinson has to be worth 7-8m on his own. Freeman has to have retained his value of 6-7m; he’s got a very competent body of work behind him at that level.

Both smack of ‘buy me, put me in a decent team, and I’ll help get you out of the division’ as Robinson proved.

so 4m, maybe 6m at a push plus Freeman should be enough. Otherwise, we should look elsewhere. Baldock is a very good player with a fantastic attitude. There is nothing to suggest he cannot have an even better season. My only concern apart from a desire to improve the final ball is that Freeman always played plenty apart from last year. So is he over those little niggles he used to get?

We have another loan now we signee Ramsdale. If they don’t sell him, we could always consider loaning Chambers from Arsenal as a decent alternative and he could cover a few positions.

Is it just me concerned that this resembles another John Brayford type scenario....?

He scored 3 and got 5 assists last season. This kind of signing improves our attack, he's not a defensive signing even if he plays in defence. Baldock is a great defender, but needs to work on his attack. Cash would bring that competition, like a step up from K Freeman.

Obviously we need cover and competition everywhere but George is going to take some shifting, I thought he was brilliant defensively and going forward last season.

Don't get me wrong I really want Cash, but I wanted Robinson more to give Enda a bit of a push more.

Enda Stevens (& the left side generally) is much better going forward than our right hand side.
Statistically Enda was only behind 3, or 4 full backs for chance creation.

Baldock, whilst excellent defensively, was lacking in the final third. We also, with K Freeman leaving, have no competition for his spot.
Matt Cash, at 23, looks an excellent talent. Similar athletic ability to Baldock and a much better attacking player, able to beat men, score & create goals. Not as strong defensively, but maybe that's a trade off we need to be making to take our game to the next level.

In what way?
Forest doing what Cardiff did and holding out for big bucks... we therefore throw the kitchen sink at bringing in a right back.
As we all discussed back then - This ‘could’ be at the detriment of the remainder transfer budget (when other areas of the team require improvement/strengthening).
*For the record I’m not saying Cash is not a great signing or prospect, I just hope the board allow CW the additional funds for the whole squad to be stronger, as we keep being told Covid has impacted on our transfer planning.

The transfer fee is as stated by age, demand and length and value of the contract don’t forget we had to pay Ched a hefty sum to bugger off (I mean release him from his contract)

I dipped on to forest forum they really are deluded 20 m for him. they say we are above our station
