On a free transfer don’t see too much of a problem with this one as a squad player. He can cover CB and RB which is exactly what we need, definitely not first name on the team sheet but over a long season rotation will need to happen at some points and his first interview he is wanting to win 10 games out of the first 13/14 top stuff!
It blocks development of Sachdev & Curtis, who might never be good enough, but ideally we could do with finding out because in 12 months we could be without a first choice right back.

Masterful gambit sir wilder.

Every signing of every possible age of player blocks development for youth players. Actually one of the more rational complaints on the thread though...

How is he on defending corners? Cause last season every corner er we conceded I expected a goal.
P.s. like to know why we really signed him. And i don't mean rb and cb cover. There's something they are not saying about this, gut feeling .

Another hilarious meltdown from our fanbase, before the guy has even kicked a ball for us.

Let's see what happens and before anyone calls me out, I will happily eat humble pie if he flops.
Objectively he can cover Seriki ar right back and also centre back; one fewer signing needed.

RB: Seriki, Docherty
CB: Tanganga, Docherty, McGuinness, Baptiste
LB: McCallum, Burrows

One more CB in Souttar we hope then defence looks covered. Anyone else not listed heads out the door.

Up to him to show how fit he is. Probably replace with Walker in a year.

Probably one of those necessary signings when you plan for a smaller squad. Younger than Walker, Coleman and Trippier.

The club's been really struggling with finding an alternative for Seriki. They usually turn out to be way past their best or just a lost cause. Gilchrist, Shackleton, Godfrey, Hoever, Clarke. The list keeps growing.
Maybe Doherty can break the cycle, but I have my doubts.

Great signing. Top footballer, good experience for the squad, can deliver an excellent cross and will help Seriki develop.

Anyone complaining about this need to step away from the their anti Wilder bias and just acknowledge it’s a good signing.

Do people not remember the signings of David Unsworth and Neil Shipperly? Both well into their 30’s, probably a little out of shape!…but they were the last pieces in the jigsaw that took us up in 2006. Unsworth ran many games from left back with his passing range and was outstanding all season. Shipperly bagged 10-15 goals as well.

Only thing I like about this signing is that we are looking for an experienced backup to Seriki when the last few windows Wilder and Selles were still trying to replace him.

2006 was a very different place for football than 2026.

Echoing a few others here, but IMO this is a clever signing. Covers 2 positions, and gives us some much needed experience at the back. Good pro for Seriki to learn from also. Wonder if we are waiting for Peck to be sold before pressing the button on some other signings…

I genuinely don’t think this is a bad signing . Obviously past his best but a good player imho . Doesn’t have a bad injury record I don’t think but has bucket loads of experience to pass on to Seriki. Every squad needs good older pros and leaders and we don’t have enough . People mock the “culture carrier” quote but when the chips are down we saw last season not many were there to stand up and be counted!
Good signing for me !
As ever UTB !

Doherty is a decent (and experienced) RB. Between him and Seriki that’s the position sorted. ⚔️

Don't mind it at all, good squad player as long as he is just a squad player, experience, etc etc. Also hopefully pushes the Harry Clarke links further away and Shackleton further away 😂

Two years younger than Walker
Undoubtedly. Walker is also a far better player given all that and I wouldn’t be all that on board with him signing either
