Mathematically 96 points takes us up

Also, nearly half the remaining 12 games are against the current bottom 5 in the division. Realistically that should be at least 10 points but as we have generally performed very well against the bottom sides I wouldn't be surprised if we win all 5 of them.

I think Im correct in saying no team with a 7 point lead with 12 games left has ever been caught in league one

which is nice

I believe its also true no team with even a 5 or 6 point lead has been caught either

Long way to go yet, but each Blades win will be a nail in the coffin for the chasing pack as they stumble and play each other.

I'm sure Wilder/Knill/Billy have targets they want to hit.

UTB!

I think 6 more wins would do it fleetwood and scunny would need ti win about 9 games

God its like I've gone back in time 5 years.

"Wednesday will never win all their games"
"they are bound to drop points somewhere"

We need another 28 points. Thats the number we concentrate on.
You've got the winning lottery ticket in your hand,you just need to cash it in.

What's your chances of losing it?

1/100

If I'm Sheffield United, based on prior experience - somehwere around 50/50

if you look at the table bradford in 5th are 12 points behind with 11 games left
so everything below that we can discount as no one going to make up 1 point a game , its just too big a gulf

You look at our team how we are playing and the teams we have to play and youd be pushed , really pushed to see how we can nt win 8 of the last 12 , as a minimum
we have failed to stay ahead once in my lifetime and thats when ched got sent down and that killed the buzz among the players
the other years weve never been ahead this far

only a cataclysmic drop in form could stop us

and thats as likely as pitsmoor owl not fancying wednesday to win the play offs

Knowing the Blades though :p

well name me all the seasons weve been top by 7 points and blown it
yes when ched got sent down it destroyed the squad, their talisman and mate getting sent down , if hed broken his leg , that would have not had the same effect
players expect injuries, , but we were only second only one team had to overtake us
now 2 have to perform miracle runs

/\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\
Yes it would take a fuck up of Biblical proportions for us to throw it away now I just can't see it happening as it stands 10 wins sees us champions without considering the next three teams have to play each other they can't all take maximum points I reackon 90pts could win the league this season, where's Mark Labbett when you need him ?

tough 1 saturday Rochdale pitch is more like a scruffy back yard where dogging been taking place as its all mostly sand now

Didn't they just have a new pitch put down a few weeks back, looked like a bowling green on goal rush. looked as though it would suit our passing game.

Now revised to 95 points so today we are now two points closer to the target

Hang on I don't think that's right. I think we still need 96. Working as follows:

Theoretically all the top 4 can get the following:

Sufc 35. 69. ---> 102
Ftfc. 35. 65. ---> 98
Sufc. 35. 61. --->94
Bwfc. 34. 60. ---->96

Except that Bolton still have to play both Fleetwood and Scunthorpe. So if we assume they win both of those ( and therefore Scunthorpe and Fleetwood win every game except those)

Sufc 35. 69. ---> 102
Ftfc. 35. 65. ---> 95
Sufc. 35. 61. --->91
Bwfc. 34. 60. ---->96

In the above scenario, we need 96 to go up still. Hence 96 is still our target IMO.

The magic number is, counter intuitively, 28 at the moment. But that's because the fixtures mean that someone has to drop points, but the MN doen0snt take that into account.

Fleetwood have 64 points not 65, so 95 does guarantee promotion.

And that's why I shouldn't assume points totals have been updated in tables in the BBC website immidiateky after the final whistle...

I said on the first page 80 - 82 might be enough, the way Bolton and Scunny are going this is looking more likely.

I can even see Bradford or Millwall finishing 3rd!

Forget Scunthorpe (94 points). Not possible for both Bolton and Fleetwood to get 96 points. They play each other next week

Where's Trianos Dellas and his magic number from the days of Blades United? He'd know for sure

That was the 05/06 promotion season wasn't it?

It was basically some shite he had seen used in American sports to just say what points were needed to mathematically win the league.

91 points will win it this season
wigan set 91 points as a new record high last season when a team had 68 points after 34 games
the previous best was 88 points after the top club had that combination

whoever thought Charlton were a dark horse was a bit out
1 point in last 6 games ,as bad this season as they were good in 2011

Well we can't completely forget Scunthorpe, a couple of bad results for Bolton and Scunthorpe will end up the team we are trying to finish ahead of.

In general though, I think we can all accept I've had a bit of a 'mare here. Silent Blade is right, I'm not. I blame the BBC, beer and enthusiasm...
