how many points will we get this term?

Be within shooting distance of the play offs come January hopefully. Do some trading in the window, send some shit back (Godfrey) get a couple of decent signings in and give it a go.

Frankly don't care at this point. Season appears to be a dead rubber, club is more directionless than any point I can remember, for more than one reason I'll probably miss more home games than I make at this point. Wake me up in June.

If it is Wilder, based on points still available this term there are 123 left (41 x 3). Looking at points as a percentage of what was available for Wilder as our manager excluding the premiership including L1 he gets just over 63%. in the championship alone it's 60% and last year it was 68%( including play offs). so points would be between 74 up to possibly 83/84 if we perform like we did last season. That would put us right in the mix for play offs. I would say we get around 78 points. What's your thoughts?
2 points a game on average, so 82. Subtract one ridiculous defeat late on and we make 6th place on 79.

The season's a write off in terms of the main objective.

If he can get us top half from here, then fair play.
The owners mentioning promotion in their 'welcome back' statement for Wilder was a bit much.
That shouldn't be their expectation after the mess they created.
A write off with 41 games and 123 points to play for?, not it’s not.

To reach the play-offs from where we are we'll probably need to average around 1.8 points per game.
Over a full season that would get you 83 points.

It's not impossible, but you're asking Wilder to probably turn us from the worst performing squad in the league, to the third/fourth best... pretty instantly.

We got away with a lot under Wilder last season because we had quite a few matchwinners and a really solid defensive base.
This squad doesn't have that.

Cooper isn't the same player, there's a Souza shaped hole in our midfield, we miss Anel's pace at the back and JRS and BBD (though not universally rated) had output that our current options don't.

I think we'll improve, but not to the level that would be needed. It's a free hit for Wilder.
COH have done the damage and will reap what they sow.

If we look at the corresponding fixtures from last season (swapping Ipswich for Burnley), then we got 4 points from those 5 games, so given we finished on 92 points, I'll be expecting us to get minimum 88 points

A few days after The Play Off Final defeat , I reflected on the season as a whole . With the "rebuild" began at the start of the season I think we massively over performed , points wise , maybe the performance on the pitch wasn't as exciting as hoped , but I hoped that might occur with further recruitment in the close season , , I genuinely believed that our new season would not be a push for The Play Offs but was to win The League ,,, then came the change and half way through a rebuild we begin to build in a completely opposite direction, arriving where we are now , I was against Wilder sacking and unconvinced by his replacement . I did however ( on S24SU) ask fans to give Ruben a chance , I am now asking for the same for Chris , we aren't going to win every game, we aren't going to play great in every game but I can't think of anyone else I would rather have to sort this mess out , And it is a mess , probably because of the euphoria Blades are talking about automatic promotion or play offs , with the squad we have and the manager we have , yes , both are possible BUT until things do change we are actually in a relegation battle, will we go down ? I very much doubt it , but until we start to pull away from the bottom 3 that is where we are , a win on Saturday v Charlton ( which everyone thinks is a given but isn't) we are still in the bottom 3 ,, so while I am still hoping we can do it , I think Wilder getting us to The Play Offs this season will be a major achievement , maybe those who said they would never go to a Play Off Final again could promise themselves today that they will if we make it because it going to take a big effort from everyone to get there , UTB COYRAWW

Played five lost five means we've already dropped 15 points.
Last season we were only two points down at the start.
Wilder is now 15 points down. Making that up is monumental.
Making the play offs will need a miracle.
It's a big ask.
Half our squad is new to Wilders ways. It depends on how quickly they adapt to his style.
It should be quite interesting. I for one am now looking forward to what's to come.

We were playing players out of position last season and the style wasn't great, same this season having played some of the top 5 sides in the league, let's hope for some decent football that will get points on the board

Just getting into the play offs would be as big an achievement as the championship promotion imo. It's a huge ask. Not impossible but would be some turn around

Playoffs easily reachable, auto possible.
Only 5 games in.
UTB !!
I agree the teams in this league can beat anyone. There isn’t a team running away with it, like last season. So called bigger hitter Leicester can expect points deduction and aren’t allowed to purchase players. I think definitely play offs and not impossible automatics but it will be his biggest achievement even eclipsing the 9th place premier league finish.

Saturday matters bigly.
Players were thoroughly demoralised by the end of Selles. If Wilder can get them organised, believing, and win it will provide a great foundation for what is to come.
If we go a goal down it will really test them, and us.

92 or it's shoes off
92 points over 46 games is 2pts per game, there’s 41 games left, so as a minimum I expect 82 points, which should comfortably see us in the play offs, which I’ll watch from the pub this time because fuck doing that all over again.

Remember, we’ve just had all summer being told you shouldn’t sack a manager after getting 92, all he needed was to go again for another season. Well now he gets to go again.

Last season Bristol City reached the play offs with 68 points. We need a W18 D14 L9 record between now and the end of the season to match that. However, it's unlikely that we'll see even one team disappear over the horizon like we did last season so it's likely that the bar for 6th will be higher: I suspect it'll be in the 74-76 point range. Still achievable, just moves the dial to W20 D14 L7 or W19 D17 L5.

Bottom line is, though, that we could do with hitting the ground running from Saturday. A couple of wins before the next international break and we'll all be much happier.

Excellent post:

The stats say we can get to the playoffs but its not as easy as you might think.
We don’t have Dirties and Burnley taking points of everyone this season so 6th is more likely to be around 72 points.
Wilders win record for his time with us is around 45%
So with 41 to play that’s 18 wins leaving 23 to play and 18 points required, meaning Wilders record has to look something like this for a chance of the playoffs

P 41 / W 18 / D 18 / L 5 / Pts 72

I’m saying nothing until about 10 games in apart from: autos is a pipe dream, playoffs would be considered a resounding success, top 10 realistic.

Wilder's record with us in the Championship is better than that: W74 D28 L36 or a win record of 53.6%. If we mirror that for this season we'll end on 74 points (W22, D8, L16) which has been enough for the playoffs in 9 of the last 16 seasons, 6 of the last 10 and three of the last four. We'd have finished 5th with 74 points last season.

I was forgetting his win record in the prem really pulled down the overall number.

If you offered us play offs now we’d take it . The fact Boro and stoke are top 2 currently shows it’s not impossible to catch up but we need wins fast to do that so I’d take 6th place now
