I have no doubt that Millwall's reports from the front line say the same. Oddly, nobody ever seems to 'lose' these things... ;)

I've only seen the BBC highlights and they suggest we got battered and scored with our only attack.

ee i ee i ee i oh, up the football league we go...........

HATE that chant with a passion................only sung by small clubs and should NEVER be heard coming out of Shoreham.

My sources say there wasn't as much kicking off after as people think...........

Millwall game

 We won and that's all that counts at the moment.

Well lets make no mistake about it, we were 2nd best throughout the game and created very little but refreshing to see us take all 3 points. So many times this season we have come away with nothing having deserved more so getting the rub of the green is pleasing.
We lined up playing an obvious 4-4-1-1 with Reid playing behind Ched. Calve was on the right wing in a change to his usual position.
Having just watched the highlights it really did look like we got hammered but it wasn't the case. Millwall saw more of the ball and chances yes obviously but they actually never looked like scoring - Simmo didn't have much to do at all and I can't recall him havng to make a good save all match. Millwall flew out of the blocks, we didn't (shock horror) and they had a number of early chances before we scored.
Defensively we have to sort something out there and quick. Millwall got behind us far too often but their lack of quality showed with not testing Simmo. Simmo by the way is a bloody liability. He made a number of errors and communication between him and the back 4 isn't there. The time has come now to give Wright a go - for 2 reasons. 1. Simmo needs a kick up the arse. 2. We need to see if Wright is still up to it at this level and worthy of extending his contract past January.
Ratings:
1. Simmo - 5 - Spilled a couple of basics but he didn't have much to do.
2. Lowton - 7 - One of the best performers of the day.
3. Jordan - 5 - Nothing much of note, few basics done right though out of position on a couple of occassions.
4. Bartley - 7 - Made a couple of mistakes but that apart he had a good game.
5. Nos - 6 - The man made out of 50 pence pieces and angles did ok but made a couple of errors and was turned by their forward line more then he should've been.
6. Calve - 3 - Very poor in all areas.
7. Britton - 5 - When United don't pass well, you can be sure Britton aint playing well.
8. Monty - 7 - When United don't pass well, you can be sure Monty is doing most of the midfield work.
9. Ched - 4 - Poor again, but the lad is NOT a lone front man so I feel sorry for him in that respect.
10. Reid - 7 - He adds a touch of class to the team and it showed with a good finish for the goal.
11. Yeates - 5 - Drifted in and out of the game and produced a couple of decent crosses in the first half but disappeared in the 2nd.

Subs:
Ertl (on for Calve), Taylor (Yeates) and Cresswell (Ched) not much to comment on.

Fans were brilliant.

Plus points:
Lowton and Bartley.
The team throwing their bodies in the line of fire.
Restricting Millwall to little in the 2nd half.
3 points :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Worries
The amount of times Millwall got behind our back 4.
Lack of pace which resulted in poor counter attacking options.
If Speed insists on playing 1 up top then I'll tell you now we only have one player capable of playing this role and he is injured. Ched can't do it, Cressy can't do it, Boggy? Not convinced he can either.

Not convincing but 4 points from the last 2 away games is a good return and we won't play good passing football every week. We needed the players to graft today and they did (well, most of them). Millwall were a poor side and I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the bottom 3 come the end of the season. If the New Den is supposed to be an intimidating place to go then someone forgot to tell South East London. Their fans were reletively quiet I thought as us blades were in full voice from the first minute to the last. You know you've had a great day when you're chatting on the way out of the ground and your voice doesn't work.

Fair assessement Blade.
You highlighted some good points there which, you would have to assume Speed is aware of. I'm confident these will be addressed in january.
Good work on the report.
COYRWW

Judging by the highlights shown last night the goal was our only meaningful attack, and Nos made a number of potentially disastrous errors.

HATE that chant with a passion................only sung by small clubs and should NEVER be heard coming out of Shoreham.

Funny how there are some chants/songs which seem to be only sung in the lower leagues or by small clubs. Another one is that "come on spireites, come on spireites" thing, which has to be the most boring song ever, and seems to be sung by half the teams in the lower divisions (replacing name as applicable), but is virtually never heard higher up.

Nos did make some errors but he also did some solid stuff too - I think we've all come to agree that is Nos in a nutshell week in week out. The problem is with him playing in the position he does, his errors will inevitably cost us.
As far as creativity goes, we are playing without Ward, Willo and Hendo who will all add an extra dimension to the side.
If I was Speed I would be trying to do a number of things this week:
1. See if we can extend Andy Reid's loan
2. See how much Arsenal want for Kyle Bartley - I suspect this kid will get better and better and his time with us has shown that. He began the loan spell last season lightweight and a little bit rabbit in headlights, but has manned up, grown a pair and I can see similarities between him and Killgallon. He isn't the finished article yet as he's only young but the progress he has made in the last 6 months is enough to convince me. With a slice of luck we may get a good price for him.
3. Slap the board around the chops with a wet fish and get them to wake up and back him with some cash.
4. Stick me up front for the next game.

Certainly not a fair representation of the game on the highlights. Millwall had a fair amount of possession going forward but never looked particularly dangerous and, as mentioned above, I can't think of a real save Simmo has to make - and you always felt we might grab one on the break. That's the way it is away from home, and overall we did it pretty well. It's the individual errors we need to cut out.

I've only seen the BBC highlights and they suggest we got battered and scored with our only attack.

If you read the match report you'll also get the impression that we were under pressure for long parts of the game and they apparantly had 17 goal attempts, though only 5 on target. I'm not sure we'd been able to keep a clean sheet if we hadn't scored when we did.

It was great to see us score from a counter attack, where we got in behind their defence. The fact that it was Reid who ran in behind proves that you don't always need great pace to do that, if the timing is right. Having said that, it was thanks to superb skill and composure that enabled Reid to score - the defender would probably got a block in on most players.

No doubt that Reidy is the real deal and if we can extend his loan then any relegation worries should disappear very quickly. 3 'footballers' in midfield today which was great to see but Monty's contribution was as important as anyone else's today.

Sounds overly dramatic but it's difficult to think of many players of the quality of Andy Reid who we could attract to the Lane. I wonder if he fancies a drop of one division and 15k a week?

I have to say he didn't look overly ecstatic when he scored. Definitely can't see him signing permanently, but if Sunderland manage to hold on to Henderson in January then hopefully we can get him back til the end of the season.

Not how I saw the game....a team with a bit more than Millwall would have punished us. That does not mean I dont think we were worth something from the game but a win is a great and welcome bonus. The back four are really fragile....they allow opponents far too much time in and around the area. Simmo, who I like, is looking suspect too often. Monty had his best game since God were a lad....and I am one who wants to see him replaced. I did like how we moved the ball quickly forward at times which has been a feature of our game missing for some time. Reid is a player we have not seen the like of since the departure of Michael Brown. It would be great to keep him but I think that is doubtful. Even if Sunderland dont want him there will be other Prem clubs who will. Who would have thought ....4 points from those 2 games...the team and Speedo deserve praise for that. Speed and co do not need my advice but I would like to think that they are trawling the country and the youngsters for a midfielder who can do what Reid can do.....in the meantime get some points in the bag before he has to go back.

I think that assessment is pretty harsh to be honest. We had some dodgy spells early on, but weathered that, grew in confidence, Evans and Yeates in particular got into the game more, and we got our goal. We passed it well and 2nd half defended excellently. Nosworthy looked terrible 1st half, but 2nd half did really well.

The only poor performances were Calve and Jordan, who were poor throughout. Jordan reminds me off a left-sided Phil Bardsley - slow to react, slow on the ball, both of which mean he has to foul frequently, average on the ball, but does have a good shot. Calve is never a right-winger - and doesn't appear a good enough defender to be right back.

Reid and Yeates were central to everything we did well in the final third today. They can't be expected to do that on their own, particularly as Reid is only here temporarily. Evans wasn't too bad, but again was better in general build up rather than pressuring the defence. Cresswell looked v poor when he came on.

Grounds for optimism from yesterday certainly.

Loughborugh Blade's view is closest to mine. The full backs were the weak links yesterday at the back. Millwall were allowed to do what they wanted down the flanks, but they didn't create a fat lot and had little in the way of good chances. I put that down to Bartley and Nosworthy, who rode their luck a bit in the first half but were excellent in the second. Simonsen looked shaky but did what he had to do.

Reid is class. He stood out because there is no one else in the squad who is anywhere near as good. Monty did what Monty does well, and Britton grew in confidence in the second half. Yeates kept plugging away and of course laid on the goal.

I hate 4-5-1 but at least we had (a) 2 players in the middle three who can pass - Ertl out was a good move and (b) Yeates is now a fixture, so at least it was a bit more forward looking.

Evans gave the best performance I have seen from him this season, but sadly it was still way below the standard of a championship striker. He is neither quick nor physical. Cresswell at least helped to kill the game when he came on, taking the ball into the corners on a few occasions to eat up time.

We've had a good week and I was pleased for the players after being a little bit unlucky at Leicester.

A good win yesterday. Reid took his goal very well - I thought he was going to mess it up!

Quality day out too and a good following by United, there was over 1,000 down there.

Feel that's a very harsh write up!

I personally don't think any player could be rated lower than a 5/6. I feel it's overly harsh on Calve as on reflection you notice how solid that right hand side was and there were very few millwall opportunities from that side. Granted he misplaced a couple of passes but generally did ok IMO.

I also felt it was Brittons best performance for a while, more aggressive in possession than ive seen him lately and seemed to enjoy having another footballer in the team in Reid.

Standout performances for me were Lowton, Yeates, Bartley and Monty (who was everywhere).

Classic away performance in my book.

Good away performance ,only allowed 8 away goals while table topping Cardiff have allowed 10.Did Simmo have to make one dangerous stop.

Can Bartley be recalled, a la Walker? He gets more important to us with every game...

Just got back after a great weekend in London
Friday night Chelmsford City Sportsmans Evening with Ray Parlour Absolutely Brilliant !!!
Saturday afternoon was the banana skin but we were the better of two sh!te sides and perhaps just deserved the points - Good job they are worse than us in front of goal!
Saturday night in Slug and Lettuce in Leicester Square 7 or 8 pints of Guiness, watched the Haye fight and met some old friends- Great Night
Well done Speedo - but you do have your work cut out with that bag of shite of a team Ried head and shoulders above the rest but Yeates improving!!!

Talking to a massive Arsenal fan on friday night he said Bartley is earmarked for major things at the Arsenal so I cannot see them selling him!

Great result, And I predicted the result however didn't put a bet on :( - Hope we can keep the lad Reid for a bit longer.

A belated  from me, having been away since Friday. Well done Blades, filled me with cheer and topped off a great weekend. What a finish from Reidy!

Hopefully this is a little glimmer of light now on the playing side. We really need to follow this up with a positive result against Palace who are also having a mini-resurgence. It is important that we keep Reid as long as we possibly can as he makes a huge difference.

Good week, 4 points but should have been 6. Would have taken it after the Ipswich game though!

We used to sing the ei ei o thing back in the early 70's did the little clubs copy us -

e i e i e i o (Blah blah blah) when we win promotion, this is what we'll sing, we all love you, we all love you, Tudor is the King.

My pet hate is Wendy t i d ..... not be long now then.

Oh! and well done at Milwall!

My first away game (Palace excepted) for 2 years. Really enjoyed it. No bother at all.

Thought Andy Reid was the difference (the man just has class) and we battled well. They had a couple of easy(ish) chances that may have made it a different story if they'd scored but overall a lot better than I expected.
Onward and upward. When's the next "tickets cheaper than £25" away day?

Great result, never easy at the Den, but without taking too much shine off it, we looked like we rode our luck! About bloody time. Whilst we've been poor this season, we've also had more than enough bad luck so perhaps things are changing.

For those that were there how was the Nos/ Bartley partnership?

Not an awful lot more to add, we didn't create an awful lot but it was more than the BBC suggested on the FL show. You got the feeling that if they could have not shown the goal they would have. Was Jordan's shot at the very least not worthy of being shown?

Top performance from the fans too, but I do have a couple of grumbles...

1. Why on earth do grown men sing for other grown men to wave at them? Never understood it, makes me cringe...
2. The "We're shit, but we're 1-0 up" chant was a disgrace. What sort of backing is that?

Other than that, a bloody good day out!

UTB!
